  1. Opened fine for me with Opera 9.01.
  2. Right now it is 72F with 93% humidity. It rained all day yesterday which cooled things down. Friday it was 86F with 84% humidity. The temps here have been have been pleasant for most of August unlike July.
  3. How I can relate to that. Instead of buying the house I rented a great three bedroom home in the country with lots of land, bought all new furniture and appliances, bought her a cherry '66 Mustang convertible and worked three jobs to provide a comfortable life. She decided that we would be better off as friends after a year. It may not have hurt so much, but I was informed with a Dear John and congrats you're a father letter and never saw her again or the kid. Maybe I worked too much.
  4. I have learned to cuss to myself on the job that I'm doing right now. It is rough building a retaining wall around a large inground pool filled with kids under 12 years old. How many times I have come close to letting certain 4 letter words fly after smashing my fingers between 80 lbs. landscape blocks while laying them. I whacked my ankle with the pick, looked at my partner and asked where the kids were. Once he said they had left with their mother I let fly with about 4 weeks worth of cussing.
  5. XP runs fine on my 2GHz AMD setup with 512MB of RAM. I have seen it run decent on an eMachine and Gateway with a 1GHz processor with 256MB of RAM. It all depends on how you set it up.
  6. Same boat. How I hate that.
  7. I have to concur with installing XP. I find that it runs much better on my 98SE setup than 98SE did. I hardly ever boot into the 98 drive anymore. I was planning on upgrading the hardware on this PC to dual boot XP and Vista, but now plan on building a new PC for that purpose and use this for 'nix.
  8. I've had good luck with http://www.biosman.com/.
  9. HP and Apple also used those Sony batteries. I wonder how long before they do a recall!
  10. Believe me when I say hitting 50 isn't that bad. It means that retirement is only 12-16 1/2 years away. Then the fun begins. I plan on working for 10 more years at a decent pay rate to fund my retirement then quit at 62. I can work easy jobs afterwards while collecting retirement benefits.
  11. It seems to work on stuck pixels. http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/forums.../m/405008220831 It is listed at one of my favorite how to sites. http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-burn-in-on-plasma-screens http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Dead-Pixel-on-an-LCD-Monitor
  12. Google:DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Invalid DVD navigation structure. There are many solutions.
  13. Damn, I am old. I remembered everyone of them just like it was yesterday. I miss those days.
  14. Audio Tapers for Windows Volume-Control Applications
  15. The highest I have been was walking on top of the stack at the steam station near me. It is 750 feet high. On a good day I could see Kingston, Canada across Lake Ontario. If there was a slight breeze the stack swayed a good foot.
  16. You could probably use lighting gels. I used to have a crap load of different colored sheets I got from school when I handled the sounds and lights for any performances in the auditorium.
  17. I no longer will walk the steel. I used to work on tall structures until my last fall. Ladders and scaffold don't bother me. You can get me on a roof but I hate working near the edge now. I think it had something to do with those sudden stops. I don't want to cause someone else getting hurt if they happen to fall trying to grab me if I slipped off.
  18. Try wiping the drive with KillDisk then format it again.
  19. Can't he have someone send him the needed software from home? I would do a format and fresh install.
  20. If you have a Win2K CD follow the directions in the link below. Recovering From a SYSTEMced Error
  21. Hence the need for unions. And immigrant labor. I would like to get dependable and hard working laborers. I have a guy that is 65 years old working with me. He busts his ass carrying 80 lbs. landscape blocks without complaint. Those damn blocks do a job on me. We've had some younger guys in better shape whine and moan that the work is too difficult. We work until the heat starts draining us physically and mentally. When the cussing and throwing materials/tools starts we stop for the day. We provide a cooler full of bottled water plus all the fixings for sandwiches. The pay isn't
  22. Cool! That seemed to be the main answer for that issue. I would still do a HijackThis log to rule out malware.
