Need Advice On Wxp Home
TheTerrorist_75 replied to tman70's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
You could slap another stick of PC100 memory in it to meet the specs. Standard it shipped with 64MB of RAM and a 700MHz Celeron. It will support up to 512MB. Just add a 256MB stick. You would need to get the correct memory for that HP. They are fussy. I would buy at least a 20GB hard drive. With updates and programs that need to be on the same partition as the OS I would install XP on no less than a 15GB partition. I use 20GB for XP. I would also purchase WinXP Home OEM. That way you won't need a qualifying CD and believe it or not I have transferred Home OEM from one computer to another with -

With all of the PC components you have Mac why not throw together one as a firewall/router? -
Set Up Internet Share On Earthlink

If you use a router how would they tell you have two computers hooked up? Doesn't a router only broadcast one IP address? -

You can disable it. It doesn't need to run at Startup for it to function.

That sucks. I know the feeling well. I had a '66 GTO convertible that I completely went through. Two weeks after giving her a fresh paint job I totaled it doing just over 100 m.p.h. I loved that car. The only thing I could salvage was the 8-track deck and passenger bucket seat. I mounted the seat on a bar stool frame that I had welded to a manhole cover (misappropriated). I hooked the 8-track to a power supply and connected to the speaker that was installed in the back of the seat. This served as my workbench chair for many years. Someday I will find another just like it. Definitely see a doct

Harddrive Problems Again
TheTerrorist_75 replied to Sir_Siddy's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Could be a bad driver, corrupted or badly written program. Do you use some of those foolish theme programs or P2P? -
I suspect malware. Do not disable it in msconfig. Do the HijackThis log and let the experts guide you further. The entry needs to stay enabled in Startup for the experts to see it and help removing it.
-
Go to Run and type regedit and press Enter. Navigate to that location in the registry and see if a name is listed. This could be caused by a corrupted install of a program or malware. I would go to the Malware section of this forum and read the directions and post a HijackThis log to be safe.

Need Help Updating My Dvd/cd Drive

Those Intel drivers caused compatability issues between burners and Roxio. It's not the first time an Intel driver has caused problems. -

Remove them through Device Manager. The following links will quide you on locating them. I am not sure if they are listed in Add/Remove. If they are uninstall them there also. Verifying that Intel® Ultra ATA Storage Driver is installed Verifying that Intel® Application Accelerator is installed More information about them. I would just download and install WMP 10.

We have Pick-n-Pulls here. I could have drove 40+ miles to get my parts. I figured with the cost of gas, my time and the possibility they didn't have what I was looking for, it was faster and cost only a few dollars more to buy the parts locally. In fact i prefer to spend my money with the locals.

There are certain files that are located on the drive that purposely can't be moved such as pagefile and many anti-virus program files. The anti-virus files aren't moved because of their protection scheme as in they don't allow other programs such as defrag interfere with them. How Disk Defragmenter Works

It used to be every 2-3 years I would buy a "new" winter rat. I always kept them going with junkyard parts. The only things that I would buy new were headlights, signal lamps, wiper blades and brake pads. I miss the days when you could buy a rat for $50 and spend under a hundred at the junkyard and parts store to fix it up. Now it cost anywhere from $300 and up for a rat and usually takes another few hundred to fix it. I can't complain about the truck though. The owner wanted $700 but I talked him down to $550. He had already replaced the brakes, complete exhaust system, did a complete tune-up

I have been searching area junkyards for parts needed on my winter rat '88 GMC pickup. I forgot about this small yard near my old house. I drove over there earlier and asked if he had any of the stuff I wanted. I got the guided tour and located a tailgate in great condition, a drivers side outer door handle and 4 excellent mud and snow tires with wheels. Total cost $150. All the other places didn't have one part or the other and most of the tailgates were rotted out and they wanted at least twice as much money. Heck, one place wanted $300 just for the tires and wheels. Rusted out tailgates wer

I wouldn't remove Ghost through Add/Remove. You may end up with a possessed computer again. Look for an option in the pop-up box to disable the notification. If there isn't any option try Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel and see if there is a listing for Ghost in startup, then disable it.

That's a good possibility, Dell teamed up with Symantec and uses Ghost to create the recovery CD. Read the manual Liz on creating the recovery CD. That box regarding Ghost probably regards making the CD which you should do. This is the info I found for Dell. The model number would help. DELL now includes back-up Ghost image in Concurrent DOS partition http://support.dell.com/support/topics/glo...&dn=1091713

MSN Live generated files. What are these .sqm files?

Yes it is mikex here and Mikex30 at G$. He was inquiring about not seeing you around here lately.

I would just rely on System restore. Ghost can be tricky. Did you opt for the Dull recovery CD or does the computer have the recovery partiton? If it has the recovery partition you should have the option to create the CD. I prefer Acronis True Image over Ghost for imaging hard drives due to it being more user friendly.

It was a wonderful 42 degrees this morning and might have warmed up to 63 in areas with sunshine. It was a great day for working outside.
