  1. I use all of those programs for myself and customers. I keep telling family members to bring any new PC they pickup to me so I can scan, then install those programs. They don't listen. I have showed them many times how to run the programs to scan, but they get lazy and ignore them.
  2. I got looking at the hardware and decided it was due for an upgrade including a new HDD. Might as well do a fresh install. This time it will have Panda installed instead of Norton plus some of the other programs to prevent them installing any crap. They're not happy with "Uncle" Don for telling their mother what was on this PC. I removed a couple of P2P programs including iMesh.
  3. Done. Thanks for confirming. Darn kids. 4. I have removed what I could through Add/Remove, AdAware and my brain. This did have an outdated version of Norton 2003 which I removed also. This PC is not connected to the Internet at this time. It has taken me awhile to just get the PC to respond without freezing up. I spotted New.net, Netsetter, MarketScore, MyWebSearch and others. AOL and Yahoo crap needs to go. Bad kids. 5. Gas prices still in the $2.90 range here. The store down the street has been taking .05/gallon off on Sundays. The place stays packed from opening to closing.
  6. I just found out that my old insurance company which I used in the mid-eighties was still in business under a new name. They were more than happy to insure me again for the grand total of $424/year.
  7. I just picked up a 1988 GMC Sierra C1500 pickup for $550.00 to use as a winter rat. I decided to test how much I would save as an AARP member on their auto insurance. They quote that you can save around $300-$400 over other companies. For minimum NY coverage they quoted $1000/year and change. I tried Geico and got a quote for $452/year. Who the hell are they kidding? It seems like everything dealing with AARP actually costs you more than buying the same programs locally. I can even get a better prescription plan from my local drugstores than what AARP offers. That is one membership that I will
  8. It is in bed with Yahoo's paid search (Overture). Bad browser.
  9. If you are usng XP have you tried to do a System Restore to a point previous of installing the updates? I would try that, then run scans for malware before installing updates again.
  10. Leaving work today I noticed the gas gauge was a bit low. I decided to stop at the Citgo out in the country near the job. Their price was $3.12 for unleaded regular. I said the heck with it and took a chance driving into the city where unleaded regular is $2.97.
  11. The sound of the bass thumping from the speakers arrives quicker than the cars in my area. The cops will overlook 5 m.p.h. over. Anything higher gets you a ticket. On the 4 & 6 lane highways leading from my city to Syracuse the speed limit is 65, but many drive 75 to 85. When traveling to and through Rochester it seems many believe the speed limit is 90+.
  12. Those old HPs were fussy with memory. I would check to make sure it doesn't require ECC/Registered and/or unbuffered.
  13. 61 this morning will a steady rain. Flood warnings to the south of me again.
  14. I go to work and the help slacks off. Well at least the coolers are full and the cashews are behind the bar.
  15. I have been very busy at work for the last month and a half. Some times I don't know if I'm coming or going. Today looks like a rain out. I just finished drawing up plans for two more jobs and figuring out the bids last night. I thought I was only going to help my ex-partner temporarily by designing and building this one major project and a smaller job, but it looks like I fell into a full time deal. So much for easing back into work. I don't believe there is one muscle in my body that isn't sore, but it feels great. My strength is returning and the weight is coming off fast. I may fall into a
  16. I would like to make one myself at have it posted here and at G4. I will start making it tomorro if one of the mods/staff/admins/what ever approve it for a sticky once it is made. BTW it will be updated regularly. Do you plan on doing a comprehensive test on each power supply or go by just what some people have already written? As stated at Hard Forum many supplies are not individually tested nor use a standard approach in testing them.
  17. This site has been posted several times here and at those other forums. It is an excellent guide to buying a PSU. Before Making a Thread About Buying a PSU....
  18. They cost the same as an equally equipped Chevy or Ford. If they outlast the previous used makes the cops have had it will be a wise investment.
  19. Time goes by fast when you're having fun. Thanks for giving us an place to congregate and enjoy each others company.
  20. The only thing I have time to mod is stone walls. Tools required; Tape measure T-Square 10" wet saw Circular saw with 8 1/4" diamond blade Ballpeen hammer with assorted chisels One overused old body
  21. I believe as long as you create a restore point before installing the service pack there should be no problem using System Restore to revert the OS back to it's previous state. I always create a restore point before downloading any new updates just in case one causes problems. So far it has worked without a hitch.
  22. Roadrunner blocks .tk sites because of the many viruses that have been associated with them. Q: I can't view .tk sites via RR. What do I do? (#13079)
