  1. Same here. For many that is not true. Some get lucky.
  2. Locking. This question has been answered.
  3. Allow it access to the Internet or your automatic updates will fail. Make sure the firewall lets it through. Updtnv28.exe In Startup Registry
  4. Minimize it to the taskbar then maximize it. The memory use should be reduced. So I have read. That is the main reason I quit using it. Other reasons include more security holes than IE so it is constantly revamped which caused many extensions not to work. I got tired of messing with it. I tried Avant but that soon had some problems. Once I switched to Opera I discovered a browser that works very well and does what I need.
  5. How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP
  6. Temporary reprieve from all that warm weather. Winter is back in Central NY. A lovely 8 degree morning with 20+ mile per hour winds. Gusts are over 30. The dog was shocked when I brought him out for his morning constitutional.
  7. It's the same for football and NASCAR. Watch a bunch of BS before the contest begins. What I can't stand is todays commentators. They zero in on an insignificant "fact" of what they "see" happening. I wish they would get a clue. Another thing is commercial after commercial. Half the time something important happens and they're still airing those damn commercials.
  8. Can't you just setup another dial-up account? I have ran multiple accounts before with dial-up. All you would need to do is select the account you wish to connect with. Set one as your default account.
  9. The only way you can get a dynamic IP (changable) is if the ISP issues it.
  10. Start > Run > Type msinfo32.exe then hit Enter. Search through the sections to see if any problems are noted (red).
  11. If it is found somewhere besides C:\hp\bin than it would be a cause for concern.
  12. Marsh is in the dark also. Plus Marsh is feeling under the weather. I talked to him a couple of days ago.
  13. National Electrical Code Handbook It was quite shocking!
  14. Control Panel > Sound > Sound Play Back > Audio > Advanced button > Move the Hardware Acceleration slide bar to adjust the sound card's timing. Also make sure the motherboard chipset driver's are installed or not corrupted in Device Manager.
  15. The old Easy Bargain department store down the street form me used to have a nut roasting machine. I would buy a pound of hot roasted Spanish peanuts and pig out while shopping there. I miss those days.
  16. I emailed il and got no reply. Marsh and I tried calling but his number is no longer in service. I checked the obits in his area and he wasn't listed. I think he is just taking a break like he did last year. He also said he was going to travel and visit friends a couple of months ago.
  17. Just normal in NY. Some winters we get a January thaw like this year. We had over 5 feet of snow dumped on us during December but that is all gone due to a few days of 50 degree weather with rain the first week of January and now the past 3 days this week. We are expecting a high of 57 today with heavy rains tonight. Sunday's high is expected to be 21 degrees with lake effect snows. Later next week the temps are expected to climb into the 40s. Normal temerature is 31 degrees in January. Usually February brings us the coldest days with heavy snowfall. I'll let you know in June if winter is ove
  18. Poor Andy hasn't met some of the women over 40 that I know. I have seen babes in the 20 to 40 range act more mature than some of those 40+.
  19. It depends on the dye used. Interesting that Imation makes some of the longest lasting CDs. Keep them stored in a jewel case away from heat, light and the sun and they'll last quite awhile. Plus don't touch the recording surface with your dirty, greasy fingers. CD-R Media Lifespan CD-R Media Longevity
  20. Check the zipped file first. Check it again after unzipping but before executing. Some anti-virus programs can detect the virus/trojan hidden in a zip file. Never execute the file until it is scanned
  21. I believe the user should be educated. A decent anti virus program can identify phishing emails but one still needs to be alert. Additional toolbars are a bane to society. People need to get their act together and stop thinking that the promised land lies in the click of a link.
