  1. We got 2" of wet heavy crap Wednesday morning then 6" of fluffy stuff last night. 24F today and going upto 42F tomorrow. Rain this weekend. I'm just loving these short period lake effect events followed by warm weather and rain. My sump pump is getting more action than my shovel.
  2. I updated the Adfilter tutorial. I think the Opera 9 beta has a different solution to blocking ads plus you are supposed to be able to toggle Flash and/or Java on/off with a button.
  3. If it is booting to Safe Mode when it is installed the cause is not because it isn't formatted in NTFS or FAT. The problem is either the jumper is set incorrectly, the drive is not in the middle of the cable, the cable or hard drive is bad, weak power supply or the cable or power connection is bad/loose.
  4. Eric Howe's IE-Spyad is now located at Spyware Warrior. http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/resource.htm It is no longer found at https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/
  5. Who is your ISP? Have you ever directly hooked up your computer to the DSL modem and had Internet access? Did you get a CD with the modem from your ISP to setup the connection?
  6. If you leave it FAT 32 you can then still read/write to that drive with Win98/ME or Linux.
  7. What make and model? Different brands have different jumper settings and locations. You can use KillDisk to wipe it clean.
  8. Windows back door rumor is bunk
  9. I would like any insights to switching over to Opera 9.0. Can I migrate my wand passwords and bookmarks easily? Has there been any problems with the switch over? I plan on a fresh install of my OS and I plan on saving my complete Opera 8.51 folder to another drive in case I wish to reinstall it.
  10. Harvard and Oxford universities plus Consumer Reports WebWatch have launched an anti-spyware website underwritten by Google, Sun Microsystems and Lenovo. stopBADware.org
  11. That eMachine has onboard video. Go to a local mom & pop computer repair shop and have them fix it. An elementary teacher should be able to afford $100.00 to $150.00 for parts and labor. If you cannot find a reasonable shop ask around school what kids are good at repairing computers.
  12. I can remove single cookies from IE right from the cookie folder. IE remembers my passwords for sites with no problems. I don't need to lockdown IE with a password due to no one uses my computers but myself. I have IE fairly secured with IE-Spyad, MVP hosts file and it's security settings at the max. As far as eye candy it doesn't make it run any better. Of course I mostly use Opera because of the tabs, better security, easier cookie management and it is less memory intensive than IE or Firefox.
  13. If that computer was phyically moved I would open it up and reseat all cards, memory and connections. Also check the motherboard to see if it shifted. Something may have become loose and is causing the problem.
  14. From Secunia. Mozilla Firefox 1.x Vulnerability Report Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Vulnerability Report Opera 8.x Vulnerability Report Seems like Opera beats them both.
  15. It's all white again for now. We had about an inch fall this morning but the temps are to climb again. My snowblower is still in the shop. I hope it stays there. With it being gone I haven't needed it. Last year it snowed like hell and that fool thing didn't want to start. Maybe I should have junked it before last winter and I wouldn't have had all that fool snow to mess with.
  16. If this is occurring to both I would look at the router. Check all of it's settings. I would also try resetting the DSL modem and router. Unplug the power to both for about a minute then plug in the power to the modem and then the router.
  17. Right-click on My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab. Under “Startup & Recovery,” click Settings. Under “System Failure,” uncheck the box in front of “Automatically restart” and then check the "Write a system event", and the "Admin alert" boxes (check "send admin alert"). This should give you the blue screen with error instead of rebooting. Copy the exact error and post it here.
  18. I might have to get the lawn mower back out. The majority of our snow is gone. There are just a few small banks where I piled the previous snowfall from shoveling. My younger brother showed up today with my ladder that he borrowed over a year ago and helped me finish putting up my new chimney. I shall now wait and see if February's regular vengeance of below zero weather and continual lake effect snow happens.
  19. Ok I was just wondering why I should get it off Newegg or TigerDirect? Just wodering. It's cheaper on eDirectSofware. eDirectSoftware has a bad rep. Do your self a favor and buy WinXP Home or Pro OEM from a decent retailer like NewEgg or Tiger Direct. eDirectSoftware sells Dell branded WinXP disks with a COA from other manufacturers. Isn't that against the liicense to install branded software on a different type of computer? It's supposed to be. I don't know how they get around it, but if you notice they don't state this on their site that the COA is for another PC manufacturer. They do s

  21. The IDE cable to the hard drive could be loose or bad.
  22. Alltel DSL 3meg/384k Speed stays constant. No slow downs during peak hours of usage. $35/month. Better price and service than Time Warner's Road Runner cable available here.
  23. Yes, actually we do! Im not even sure how the hell you can compare springer to a "praise the lord channel". Jerry Springer and Pat Robertson share a common bond. They both feed off people's gullibility with their preposterous crap.
