  1. I'm up and running. It took 3 1/2 hours to tear it down, clean the dust out (1/2 hour just for the PSU) and put it back together. I've got about 16 hours in so far and I haven't even began to tweak. At least I have 2 hard drives with 98SE and all the updates setup as backups. What fun running KillDisk, fdisk, format, install and update on 3 drives. I still ned to install quite a few programs but that shall wait until tomorrow. My eyes are tired. Later.
  2. I haven't taken my PC apart yet. I'm still waiting for Panda to send me the confirmation they received my payment so I can download the new version of Titanium. Once that is done and saved to my Slave drive I can get started. I have rewired a couple of fans and wrapped them so they look decent and have found a piece of lexan that I may turn into a new side cover. I figure to get all the mod stuff set.
  3. Enhanced CDs contain both music audio and computer data, so they can be played on audio equipment and used on a computer. (Enhanced CDs are also known as CD Extra or CD Plus CDs.) Note that the Mixed-mode CDs also contain audio and data, but these may not be playable on audio equipment. You should disable AutoRun. How-To Tuesday: Disable AutoRun on Windows! 4. It would help to know the exact error word for word. Don't add or omit any wording plus don't use any added characters if they are not part of the error message.
  5. Format the drive and start over. Sounds like you ended up with a bad install. Make sure to set the Bios at it's default setting before reinstalling. Also check the IDE cable.
  6. What a rush. I'm finding new ideas on some old Win98SE tweaks that I have used in the past. I think I'm going to setup my old AMD T-Bird rig to run some tests on before finalizing my main PC.
  7. I use Ghost 2003 for Win98SE. I called one of my friends that I swap software with and he has the utility disk I created with Ghost on it. He will drop it off this weekend. Thanks anyhow.
  8. How about OnlineHotels or Hotels.com?
  9. I am. I have been surfing for alternative programs and new Win98SE tweaks. Now if only I could find my disk with Ghost 2003. I can't remember if it was on my UBCD 3.3 or 4.0. I have too many utility CDs floating around amonst friends. I have all my important stuff backed up on another HDD and I am now cleaning that up between breaks. I couldn't believe all the old programs I had saved to different download folders. I need to go through my notes which programs failed miserably so I can delete them.

  11. I always have fun tearing them down and rebuilding. I seem to come up with new ideas while doing it.
  12. It is time for me to disassemble my main PC, clean it up, mod some hardware, redo partitions and freshly install everything. This has been long overdue. It's so dusty that it makes me sneeze when the side fan kicks in. I have just finished downloading all of the updated drivers for the mobo, video card, NIC and sound and burned them to CD. I found a couple of my 120MM fans plus discovered a new 40MM hiding in a box that will fit my northbridge. I found a spare new in package 2GB Seagate HDD to install Win98SE to with all of the updates that I can use to ghost from. No more updates for 98SE aft
  13. Sounds like the floppy drive is dirty or floppy disk was not fully formatted.

  15. It looks like winter may finally be coming. Forecast calls for the low temperatures in Canada to start coming down to most of the U.S. That means I'll be getting some major lake effect events in the next few weeks.
  16. A big increase no. But you should see a gain of about 3-5% in performance with video editng/encoding, burning and business apps like Office.
  17. A bad power supply shouldn't be the cause of a computer shutdown when multiple app;ications are being run. Too little memory can. 512MB of memory is not enough for WinXP and running a bunch of programs which include Photoshop CS at the same time. Time to get another 512MB of memory in that PC if you are going to use that many memory intensive programs.
