  3. It's a P2 that is designed for a laptop. I don't believe it will get too hot.
  4. I don't know what the Gigabyte board uses for the onboard video memory but the reviews I have seen are terrible for this board. I still think you would be farther ahead by getting the MSI. Also seeing as you are planning on getting 2GB of RAM I wouldn't be concerned with the amount of memory the onboard uses.
  5. Some laptop fans are designed to only run when a certain temperature is reached. I imagine this is to save on the battery.
  6. Just use ipconfig to see what the adapter name is. Ipconfig WinXP
  7. She is going to need to do a repair install or fresh install of XP anyhow due to installing the drive to a different motherboard setup.
  8. I am not sure if that option is available with Home. Read the following. Use Hibernate and Standby to Conserve Batteries
  9. xpcgear doesn't have that great of a record especially with graphic cards. That power supply is not a good one. The graphic card (BFG) from Tiger Direct is a decent one. You might find it cheaper at NewEgg. I haven't looked. Check NewEgg for a name brand power supply. They are listed here The PSU Thread.
  10. Most of your computer problems probably wouldn't occur if you quit using those damn P2P programs.

  15. 1. Check Device Manager for any errors for the IDE controller. Drivers may be missing or corrupted. If a problem is detected reinstall drivers. 2. Scan for any viruses for they can cause this problem. 3. Check the IDE cable to the hard drive. Test by using another one. 4. Run the diagnostic software from the manufacturer for your hard drive. Reply with any findings after you have done all.
  16. It is best to go with the MSI board I recommended at G$. (Whiskeyman)
  17. Your +12V reading is low. Plus as noted by another G$ poster your vcore reading is way to low. The Ultra power supplies are cheap pieces of crap. It doesn't have the balls to power your system.
  18. It used to be when they saw my 260+ pound mostly muscled frame with hair down to the middle of my back and a beard to the bottom of my breastbone they would run out of the way. Now that I have short hair witrh a trimmed beard and weigh only 210 they don't get as afraid. It probably also helps that I quit scowling and no longer reek of Jack Daniels. People used to say that the look in my eyes was death to those who impeded me.
  19. What price range? This is a decent setup. It has an AGP slot besides PCI-E. You could run yur present AGP card until you pick up a PCI-E. Read the reviews.
