BitBanger, forgot to mention that I already tried to copy the file over using DOS, but after several tries, gave up. I'll try that little tapping trick though. Of course I planned on never using the diskette again once the data is recovered. No Worries, this is NOT the only copy of the original file, but it IS the only copy with correction notes saved on it. (Not my fault, I tried to get the person to save a back-up on their HD first.) I'm trying to get some files off of a floppy diskette that I believe is corrupted, or maybe the file it'self is somehow corrupted. Anyway, there were 3 files on this diskette. Two of them I was able to safely copy onto the hard drive, but I cannot do the same for the third. If I try to open it, or just copy/move it onto the HD or another disk, I get the following message: "Cannon Copy (filename): Data Error (Cyclic redundancy check)" I have tried the diskette in another PC with the same results. You've already tried running all your scans and removing in safe mode, right? If the latest version of Spybot (1.3) doesn't work, then you could try Webroot SpySweeper, which has a free trial period.

Sp2 on XP Pro for severyal weeks now....almost a month actually, and have had no problems. Installed through the updates website with AV and firewall turned off. Before downloading SP2, I did a full cleanup of my system and defraged as well.....did one after as well. For your problems with IE, this could be caused by some of the things added to IE's Options and security. Go into your internet options and make sure everything is set as you want it. If you still haven't already, go ahead and try the repair IE. If even after this, you still have problems, may I suggest posting a HJT log so that a

oh top of what's already been said....when did this start? Was it running fine before? How big is each partition, and how big is the HD as a whole? If Crow's suggestion works, I would suggest running scandisk...your HD could have some problems areas which need to be fixed.

I'm sure you know that by default, most AV and firewalls are set to "auto update." Most of these programs do so in the background as well. Perhaps it was an update that changed a setting somewhere, or just simply has a problem with outlook, preventing proper connections.

1) has he tried to call his ISP provider? 2) this could be the result of the antivirus, or possibly a software firewall that isn't allowing Outlook to connect properly.
