  1. Keith, I'm very sorry for your loss...My condolences to you and your family
  2. This one almost qualifies as a monologue but I still think it's hilarious. Jim Carrey as the Cable Guy And yes, I did remember all that without checking the movie ...ugh! I need a life!
  3. Yeah!, what everyone else said!!! HAPPY B-DAY TT_75
  4. In light of quite a few people recently installing Ubuntu, I thought I'd share this link that you may or may not have known about. Unofficial Ubuntu 5.04 Starter Guide This page pretty much covers everything you would need/want your system to do, that it doesn't do "right out of the box". From adding repositories to enabling all multimedia support (mp3, avi, etc. etc.) to installing java and flash player for Firefox (including the creation of symlinks, so "it just works"..no fuss, no muss)...the list goes on but you get the point...A lot of good info that applies to linux in general, not just
  5. Nope, don't remember ya' but welcome anyway And as blim said, plenty of "refugees" here that probably have a better memory than mine that will remember you
  6. A part of me would listen to that and *maybe* like it, the other part just thinks you're ****ing twisted...lol heh, I remember him...yeah, I'll agree that he was/is pretty amazing on violin but the songs seem laughable nowadays
  7. All my machines are still dual boot...a total waste of space too since I don't ever boot to windows....well, maybe once in a blue moon but it's a total PITA since I have to update everything....I get to a usable desktop about 5 minutes after boot...lol My work requires us to do training and development BS on the PC, unfortunately I actually have real work to do while I'm there so I have to do that crap at home...then comes the company webdork...er..master (CEO's son) who's a big fan of M$ frontpage and seems to think no one uses an alternative browser....crossover office helps me to never have
  8. This is the sickest thing I've ever done to a linux machine...note the browser As for the system, it's Ubuntu Hoary, running KDE 3.4...also using crossover office for PS7 and IE (IE = work related only...it's not like I like it or something!!!)
  9. /me agrees with Matt...he's seen his spelling in chat
  10. heh, got 6 also but had a little insight to this...I saw one similar to it a while back and knew the trick is to not read it while counting or you'll hear the f in "of" as a v guess I'm a cheater
  11. Wow, never heard a ukulele sound that cool thanks for sharing
  12. A) The usual, eat, sleep, work...Oh and hoped for my son to be born...didn't happen but not too much longer to wait. Q) Your longest driving trip?... or the ride if you aren't old enough to drive
  13. No need to defrag drives in linux, it's a far more efficient file system Not entirely accurate...As iccaros said, there are drivers (poorly written) to give READ ONLY access to an ext2/ext3 file system from windows...you would not perform any drive maintenance of any kind, these drivers are only for viewing the files on that partition although I have never had a problem using these drivers and have recommended them to others, I would never say that they can't mess up your system and would take no responsibility if that did happen Drivers I've used As iccaros also stated, the way to go is sh
  14. Answered in chat but... I forgot to mention that you could've gotten a SATA controller card (PCI slot) Better choice going with the uATA, IMHO...cheaper anyway
  15. Matt, I didn't see anything indicating you have SATA connectors on your motherboard...I'd check that before you order a SATA drive
  16. Welcome back, bud Hate is such a strong word and still somehow seems inadequate to describe how I feel when work disrupts anything I'd rather be doing
  17. yeah, that's about how I'd react!!!
  18. Heh, probably shouldn't have been blowing it off all along and it wouldn't have piled up on ya'...lol hurry back
  19. Hiya robroy, google search: reinstall grub, ubuntu This thread on ubuntu's forums is kinda messy with only one post stating he fixed the issue (second to the last response) but a few mentions of different ways to go about reinstalling grub....not really sure if reinstalling grub will fix the issue but seems possible and also worth a shot if this is just a fresh install without worry of b0rking alot of customized settings. hope it helps
  20. heh, thanks for coming back to say problem solved....especially when I was right
  21. Wow, nice find Barb ....almost feel like my post was a waste of time...I should have been looking for that and posted the link.
  22. a few questions: 1) when you say "slows down", how so?...graphically, over-all pc responsiveness, internet speed (if it's an online game)? 2) I highly doubt it's a hardware issue but do you clean out the case on a somewhat regular basis and have proper ventilation to rule out heat being an issue? 3) all the usual maintenance performed? (defragging, empty temp files and such) The first thing that stands out to me about the log is, that's quite a list of running processes...I count 43 not including HJT...quite a few are not required on startup and I'd start with that...I don't see anything bad i
  23. Hmmmmm, that I wouldn't know....even when I did use windows, I preferred alternative browsers so I never needed to know. I'm not sure if Norton firewall or any of the adblockers stop ads in IE...Someone else have an answer on this? I'm pretty good at that also but when it comes to internet speed, I like to squeeze all I can out of my connection....there's always room for improvement. Distractions are one thing but some are just down right obnoxious...If I want sparkles, blinking lights, flash or nude women on the pages I might as well get my @$$ off the PC and go to the local nudey bar
  24. neither....I'd rather be laid off so I can collect unemployment...can't live without the lifestyle I've grown accustomed to. Q) how many bones have you broken? (just counting the ones you own...lol)
