Heh, I guess I'll wish you a happy birthday too even though you two make me gag with that love $hit all the time. btw, I'll be down in your area in a few weeks, the weather better be good or I'm holding you personally responsible!

Man, someone needs to make this into a GL screensaver for KDE and use my ex-wife as the model.

As hitest said, check synaptic...Just to add, there is quite a few when I ran "strategy" as a search in "name and description", I'm not sure if all are in the default repositories, some may be in backports repos, but I think everyone running Ubuntu should have the extra repos added to their sources.list file. Just in case you don't: sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list password:<your password> add this to the bottom of the file and save. ## Backports deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hoary-backports main universe multiverse restricted deb http://ubuntu-backports.mirrormax.net/ hoary-ext

There may be others here that can suggest another place that's cheaper than godaddy but I've been very happy with their hosting for almost a year now....I'm trying to think of a single complaint but can't seem to find any....100% uptime and reasonable rates keeps me happy, I guess.

thanks a lot also found mepis is this one good for a newb? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I tried SimplyMepis awhile back, thought it was a pretty good/user-friendly distro, debian/KDE based...If I'm not mistaken, you can use the live cd as a graphic installer for a hard drive install. The only problem I had with it was something about my sound hardware and no one ever getting it to work with MEPIS....Might try it again down the road to see if they fix that or try it on different hardware...thought it had potential.

Ask and yee shall receive (for Ubuntu, that is), not sure when it showed up in the updates but it's there now...and it won't even install if you don't remove 1.0.6 first, so it's not like you have a choice but to do it your way. (yeah, I just tried to install over the previous)

heya bearskin, assuming you use thunderbird for the email client... Open firefox>type "about:config" in the address bar--enter>r-click blank area of page>new>string....name the preference "network.protocol-handler.app.mailto">name the string value "mozilla-thunderbird" While I have no experience with doing so, I would imagine this would work with other email apps...not sure if a path is needed, I know it's not in linux though.

1.) Bad at cleaning house...Once upon a time I was Felix Unger, now I'm Oscar Madison. (the youngsters probably won't know what I'm talking about on this one so--> Felix = obsessive neat freak, Oscar = total freakin' slob. (Characters from "The Odd Couple") 2.) Although very new to it, I'm an awesome Dad. 3.) I'm pretty artistic and can create something from nothing in several areas that one would consider artistry.

It's not that FC4 can't access a FAT32 partition. If I'm not mistaken, all linux distros can read a FAT32 partition, I think it's because it doesn't know it should...For that you'd need to edit your /etc/fstab and add the partition or drive. Often this would be done like: su ******* (root password) cp /etc/fstab /etc/fstab_backup kate /etc/fstab and add: /dev/hda1 /wherever/you/want/it/mounted vfat iocharset=utf8,umask=000 0 0 This would give read and write access to the drive, which I'm not entirely sure you want, given the potential to mess up your windows partition...rea

Granted, but you've just been sucked into the engine of a Boeing 757. my wish: a very hot maid to clean my apartment....naked!!!

Sure that's not a Netgear card? I have a Netgear WG511 (not T) and it was auto-detected and works very well...hopefully you have the same outcome. Given your advanced *nix experience, I'm pretty sure you'd get it working anyway.

Certs? Nope, all self taught...At one time I strongly considered getting all the major certs to land one of those jobs that's a little less demanding on the body as my current position but looking at the saturation of geeks and the few positions in the IT field in my area, I felt I was a little too old to be sacrificing what I've accomplished at my current place of employ (yeah, some of it might've been fear of uncertainty too) "do many of you make your living doing computer repair?" Make a living? no....make money? yes....don't tell Uncle Sam, ok? I, like yourself, have been considering maki

Quoting Mac: Freaked out?...No, maybe a little surprised by the number of views but considering how many times this place is in google results...not really that surprising. One thing I did find very surprising was that my little semi-public/personal site got a huge traffic spike from all the G4 hooplah last month and was wondering who the hell all these strangers were that were looking at my stuff. and the higher traffic continues, so I guess I'll have to treat my site like someone actually goes there. Quoting hitest: For some reason, I don't really worry too much about that....Don't get

That's awesome, man!!! Not sure how much I helped but you should be proud of yourself for hangin' in there. I think the obstacles that you overcome is one of the most rewarding things about using Linux...The knowledge and patience you develop keeps you from pulling your hair out the next time something doesn't work or breaks....A close second would be knowing that I didn't put anymore money in Gate's pocket
