CONGRATS!!! Time to start off the new job with a good office prank...superglueing your boss' stuff to his/her desk always gets a good laugh....and I hear they love it!!!

Heh, I don't have a problem with more great minds around here but the problem I notice is that not many of the members here need help...We kinda need a good ratio of ignorance to intellgence to make it a help forum, otherwise it's just another community of goofy geeks with too much free time on their hands. oops, sorry if I offended any of our goofy geeks

heh, now I don't feel so bad....I was waiting for one of the click-happy ones from bc to show off in this thread too....btw, cowsgonemad posted a perfect zero @ bc...don't know how he did it, don't really care though.

Found this annoying little test over at bleepingcomputer. And like their thread there...the proof is in the screenshot Wish I could do as good as some of those click-happy folks over there but I'd still say not too bad. Edit: Here's another, and it's even more annoying.

heh, since you stumbled on to the wonderful world of tabs.... I totally recommend Tabbrowser Extensions...it gives (pretty much) total access to config of tabs....I'd go with the "light user" default starting off. I'm not sure how far away I've strayed from the light user but one of the things I like, is being able to hover over an inactive tab for 700ms (time is user pref) and have it go active....yes I am so lazy that I don't even want to click if I don't have to.

Just wanna mention that the 1.0.6 Ubuntu package was (supposedly) pulled from the repository due to problems alot of people were having with it. I say "supposedly" because I installed it after it was supposedly pulled...I'm one of the lucky ones that didn't have any problems with this upgrade...well, one problem with tabbrowser extension but a reinstall of the extension fixed that....not sure if the issue is fixed or not but the ubuntu forum was cluttered with FF complaint threads the other day

Most Of My Files And Folders Are Deleted
tictoc5150 replied to X-Cannon's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Hiya Liz, Not that I can answer for XCannon, but the key to not ever having it happen is to back up all things of importance...by way of saving to another drive/partition/CD or DVD or all of the mentioned if you like redundancy...they say, "it's not if your hard drive will fail, it's when your hard drive will fail" and to answer your question about system restore: System restore will only recover deleted registry keys and shortcuts pertaining to the system...not your deleted personal files. -
Heh, you answered your own question in chat

Most Of My Files And Folders Are Deleted
tictoc5150 replied to X-Cannon's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
That's an understatement...try not at all. I'm sure you're aware that any data being written to the disk could be potentially overwriting the deleted data, so using it at all , puts recovering files at risk. I'm not sure how you managed it...something tells me it's step 8 but it doesn't really matter at this point. I'd try something like, PC INSPECTORâ„¢ File Recovery 4.x (freeware...can't vouch for it since I've never used it). I have used non-free recovery apps but don't really have a recommendation....it's more like I just can't remember the names of them. Keep in mind you're gonna need ano -
You'r Getting Sleeeeepy, Verrrrry Sleeeeeeeeeeepy
tictoc5150 replied to macmarauder's topic in Open Chat
Heh, how'd I miss this thread?...I must've been sleeping Yeah Right!!!!! Working a 3rd shift job almost always guarantees sleep problems...I couldn't even say what I average for a nights (days) sleep since it's so inconsistent. Over the past week I've had a couple days @ 2.5 hours, a couple @ 3, a couple @ 5 and maybe 6 hours on my night off....Alot of that has to do with being a new dad but it wasn't too much different before. I function at my best with 7 hours sleep but spread myself so thin with all aspects of my life that I don't have time to worry about functioning my best, just barely fu -
Good tip CurlingSteve....I've always used TweakUI to shut them off though...and way too many other tweaks accessible to not recommend that utility also

jimras, Both Mistamatt's reply and mine are links to drivers that make it possible to read ext2/3 file systems within windows...although I've never had a problem using the drivers from the link in my reply, I've heard there's a possibility of corruption due to the drivers being experimental. I've gotten away from using them, 1) by seldom booting to windows and 2) created a small FAT32 partition for sharing between the 2 OSes as both can read and write to FAT32 (or VFAT as it is called in linux)

Hiya Wayne, Not that I'm doubting your abilities to know that the drive is going bad, but curious what the symptoms are that lead you to that conclusion....I've seen some screwy errors that *look* like a bad drive when it was really the IDE controller....and since this is connected to a PCI card, that adds more/different possiblities. As for swapping out the drives...it's as simple as you put it...pull the bad, make sure the jumper is on the right pins of the new one and throw it in....boot up, open disk management and format it..all set.

heh, out of the pics posted (of regulars), Chappy was the only one that I didn't already know what they looked like...Just assumed his avatar was a pic of him...lol nice pics everybody...especially Nerelda hubba hubba anyways, if you've checked out my site at all you might've come across this old one but this one was taken this afternoon... and if you're wondering if that's Tux (the linux penguin) on Jacob's onesie... No problem rv, you weren't late, Jacob was a week early...lol I'll be sure to pass the congrats on to Mom...She's been getting a kick out of hearing about her new baby's internet exposure...and of course, she thinks he's the most gorgeous thing in the world and totally deserving...Surprisingly, I'm starting to think the same way even though he seems to like aiming his spit-up at my hand all the time Update: Jacob and Mommy are home now and doing well...He got a little cranky after getting "the cut" and then on the ride home (it was about 94 degrees out and my A/C doesn't do so well in stop

Heh, you sure about that Liz? The funny part is he wasn't actually making any noise for that...Which has been mostly the case since he was born...gonna enjoy that while it lasts Chappy, LMAO....kinda thought that was a no-brainer mac, yeah, he even looks a little Butterball-ish....lol

heh, I don't sleep that much anyway but between the fact that his mom doesn't work and me not living at the same residence, definitely eases my stress potential and now, introducing the long awaited bundle of joy...I give you, Jacob Thomas!!! Yeah, the pic could be better but believe me, you aren't missing much not seeing his complexion...that pic was taken within a couple hours of birth and he wasn't too pretty yet...He's looking much better and a lot more baby-like today

Heya folks, Thought I'd share the news with y'all!!! Heya hitest, I haven't seen this problem after multiple installs on several different PCs...Has this happened on all your installs? Efwis, Since I have less knowledge of linux than hitest and shanenin, not sure that I can come up with anything for a solution. The only thing I can think of is maybe PCM is muted in alsa...I think you'd still be able to watch movies and play CDs with that muted. I'd try opening "alsamixer" in terminal and see if anything is muted (MM on the sliders)...If there is anything muted, use the arrow keys to select that one and unmute using "m" key hope ya' get it workin
