    New Forum

Hi folks! Well, we here at Besttechie.net are continually striving to find better & better ways to serve our membership, with everything they may possibly desire or need. (shameless plug eh... ) So, in our quest to provide you all with every "creature comfort" you may need, we poured ourselves a great big horkking driveway!!! Uhhh....then we realized that...well, none of you brought your dang cars here!!! Shoot...now what do we do with all this paved space we have....and then it hit me like a Honda Civic in 3rd gear....GARAGE SALE!!! Yep, in the Great North American tradition of "Free Ente
  3. Hi Everyone! Well, we just put down a fresh concrete driveway in this place, and we needed to find a use for all this new space, so we're going to have a GARAGE SALE!!!! Whoopeee!!!!!!!!!! K...here's the rules: All items posted MUST be approved by a Besttechie.net Moderator Simply compose your topic post as normal and hit the "post topic" button as you normally do. The message will be put into a que for approval, and we'll get to it as quickly as possible. 1) You may Buy, Sell, Trade, or Give Away, any WORKING computer hardware or software you may have that you no longer need. 2) All transact
  4. Ok, we've decided that it's best to find out if the Majority of our membership even WANTS a forum for Politics & Religious debates. We know that these types of forums can cause some hard feelings between members, but if we do open this forum, we feel that our members are mature enough to respect others views. We have also heard from many members that they just don't WANT a forum like this at Bettechie, so we've decided to do the true Democratic thing...VOTE!! Majority wins...we either have one or we don't, it's up to the membership. One vote per member and BT Admin's and Mod's are NOT allo
  5. I've had a whiny drive that's lasted well over three years now, also a Seagate. It seems to get louder some days more than others, but I use it for non important stuff just in case anyways. Just saying this as it's not Always a sign of a failing drive when they whine, it can simply be a product of the speed of drives these days, and the relative temp & humidity that makes it sound louder than usual. Of course tho, when it gets REALLY whiny or has a bit of a scratchy type of whine, then you can count the days this drive has left in it. Still...better safe than sorry, so a new drive never hu
  6. Well hopefully...if I ever get my BUTT in gear, I hope to write a bunch of Tutorials for us here too. Probably not quite as many as that, but I do have a few in mind that I think we can all use. I have all the time I need to do this, it's just the energy that I lack these days because of this neuropathy crap..
  7. Sure do Pat, and it's still in use in many businesses still. Like you say, it's best property is that it doesn't damage expensive electronic equipment but it does have it's drawbacks also...just like everything does nowadays it seems. JSKY Yes, I wasn't using the Ozone depletion as the cause of global wrming conditions, it was more just another aspect of the damage we're causing. Excellent explanation of the differences buddy! What it boils down to I guess, is that we just don't know enough about our planets systems to be sure of anything yet, but one thing we can be sure of though, is that if
  8. The Husband Store A Husband Shopping Center has opened where a woman can go to choose a husband from among many men. It is laid out in five floors, and the men increase in positive attributes as the shopper ascends the flights. There is, however, a catch. As you arrive on any floor you may choose a man from that floor, but if you go up a floor, you cannot go back down, except to exit the building. So, a woman goes to the shopping center to find a husband. On the first floor the sign says: Floor 1: These men have jobs and love kids. The woman reads the sign. "Well that's better than no
  9. K...I am officially very worried about our buddy Il_Wiccan now, this is not like him at all to just drop out of sight like this. If ANYONE has any word on Il, I would really appreciate hearing from you!! I have lost his main email addy, and he hasn't replied from the one I used above. If he's just tired of posting...that's fine, but I need to know he's OK at least, so please if you have info on him, I'd like to hear from you.
  10. Hi Pat No Prob luv! We also hope it's not a huge mistake to make this new forum too.. Funny you should mention the odd weather you're having tho, I just finished posting a thread on this very subject just now, I hope you'll read it and add your opinion.
  11. Hey Y'all! I know all this stuff on Global Warming is overwhelming to some, but I totally believe thet we've screwed things up past the point of No Return! When I was still doing refrigeration work before I became a firefighter, I learned that every molecule of freon destroys 100,000 molecules of ozone, and that all the freon released into the atmosphere from the late 60's to the 90's, is just now reaching the ozone layer. It takes 15 plus years for this stuff to get up there, I had no idea it took that long but thats what the experts tell us. That means that the REAL damage is yet to come as
  12. Is that you back there in the background TK? Or are you one of the ones up front... Good Looking Kids!! Cutiepies actually...wunder where THAT came from eh! (must be from Mum's side..)
  13. This is definately not something for the OS maker to take care of, thats like saying it's Microsoft's fault that you get spam email in Outlook. You can get spam when using any email client, so why would it be MS's fault just because their's is the most commonly used? Same with Phishing scams, it's not the fault of the OS you use thats to blame for this, it's the greed of others and the gullability of users that's the culprit here. The security of the OS has nothing to do with things if the user decides to type their passwords into some email request, thats just plain up to the user to know bet

Hi Marty Glad to see you're feeling better and posting regularily again! As the others said, we weren't permanently banned at G4, it was just temporary and mine was because I leaked the closure of the Tech Support board early, so the members had a chance to make plans. I still maintain that the only reason they changed the name to CFH instead of closing it as was planned, was because of this early release and the uproar it caused. I'm surprised to see Pete post there too after what they did to him, and I have no intentions of making that place a regular visit again but I do keep my account th
  15. Hi Pat I certainly understand your concerns here, and to tell the truth...we feel the same reservations as you've pointed out here, but it has been a request from more than a couple of members and we're willing to give it a try. Don't be too worried, we have faith that our members have the maturity and respect for other's that is needed for this to work, but if it starts to become a problem for the rest of the forums, it will be closed permanently. We wish to allow everyone a chance to speak their minds here at BT, and these topics have come up enough to make us think that its at least worth a
  16. This is shot from one of my favorite sites, and you'll see why its a fave of mine. I constantly use shots from this site to make desktop images for myself and friends, who are also big fans of.."Whats Out There" Anyone who thinks that we could POSSIBLY be the only life in this universe, just doesn't grasp the fact that there are trillions and trillions of galaxies, each with trillions upon trillions of stars. The sheer size of this is completely ungraspable by the human brain, we simply cannot wrap our minds around the immensity of it all, but to think that we are the only life out here...well
  17. Yah, it seems harmless now but it won't be long before someone really does get hurt somehow, and then all hell will break loose. Not only is it degrading to the students, but I can't believe the teachers are actually taking part in it! I'm with the "Get it Stopped" group on this one. There are other "Hazing" activities that can be done to have this type of fun, and they can be fun for all involved including the "Hazee" and nobody is degraded or hurt by it. If the faculty is going to be involved here, they'd better make sure that whatever they do is not going against the freshman's wills, and e

    Swell!

Hi JDoors This is rather typical really, a persons foot changes shape constantly throughout the day, as do your hands but moreso the feet. Many factors are involved here, age, weight, circulation, smoking...etc, and mostly it's due to age and activity levels. Some reasons can certainly be worrisome as it can be a sign of poor circulation which leads to a build up of fluids (edema) in the extremities. I'd say it's just likely a small buildup of fluids and the normal change of the foot in your case, but if it's a significant change due to too much fluid, then it's something you should point out

    Fire!

You would be amazed at how many vehicles actually catch on fire every day. I wouldn't have had any idea it was as many as it is until I became a firefighter and had to go to them...it's allot. We probably do 4 a week in a city of 185,000 and I've personally done 3 in one day once. These are not arson fires either, they are actual accidental fires caused by all sorts of things...mostly electrical problems.
  20. Yeah but would you trade one of us for a good Six-Pack of Beer??????...... hahahahaha Hmmm....make it a 12 pack, and a can of cashews and we'll talk... Are you volunteering??
  21. I know where you're coming from old friend, I also just lost 2 friends on Dec 30th in a car accident. We had to "Celebrate" their lives on New Years eve instead, making sure not to mourn their loss, thats how they would've wanted it we think. They were supposed to party with us... Unfortunately, this is all a part of life, and we survivors just have to learn how to move on and realize that ther's absolutely NOTHING we can do about it.
  22. Yes, we will have a politics & Religion Forum in the very near future! It's a big move really and takes some close consideration on how relaxed the rules are going to be, so thats the reason for the delay. That and it will be setup as a Private forum where you need to apply to post to (not every post), so making sure the permission mask works as planned also takes some time. We have a Mod Meeting coming up very shortly (this week), and this will be brought up and finalized then. Until then I ask that we keep "P & R" topics out of the forums, many members do not appreciate them. The fa

  24. Well, its been a tremendous year for us here at Besttechie.net! We've seen a good amount of growth, and we've been working very hard in the background to get the site and the moderation of it ready for the future. We are very close to having everything in place so that the site runs itself smoothly and the Staff are all prepared for anything that may arise. We have a great team in place here, and once we've gotten all the expected wrinkles ironed out, I think we will have the undisputed BEST Moderation Team on the Internet!! The reason we work so hard? You guys...our members, you are the Best
  25. Yah...I stopped making resolutions long ago cause I just end up breaking them anyway. All I want for this year is to try and get a handle on my health issues better than I have now, and to spend more time with my grandkids. Happy New Year to you all!!
