Wow...I've missed too many of the birthday posts lately...X-/ HAPPY BIRTHDAY SULTAN!!! I wish you many..many more as well, enfoy your day!

A bad power supply shouldn't be the cause of a computer shutdown when multiple app;ications are being run. Too little memory can. 512MB of memory is not enough for WinXP and running a bunch of programs which include Photoshop CS at the same time. Time to get another 512MB of memory in that PC if you are going to use that many memory intensive programs. I agree here, it's probably a memory issue.

I agree completely. This subject is now over, and no amount of continued debate is going to change that fact, so this post is mute now and will be closed. Thanks to all that DID participate!

Actually, just for your information here only...formatting does NOT erase anything, all it does is clears the Master File Table (MFT) entries that points the OS to where the data it's looking for is stored. All the data is still on that disk after a format and anyone with data recovery tools can access it all, it has to be overwritten to be truly erased. Since you're keeping the disk for your own use, formatting it will work just fine for your purposes, as it looks like an empty disk to the OS and can be used for storage or whatever. If you were giving the drive away tho, I would use something

I would like to hear if this solved Velda's problem. It sure seemed that the MSKB article Sethook posted was spot-on, so it would be nice to hear if that was the issue here. /Chappy waves at Velda Yoohoo...Velda, if you come back and read this, please let us know what happened.

It's also very useful if you have your own page or are interested in learning HTML, to have a look at the codeing that goes into a page you like.

Hi Marty As TT pointed out, that's mostly going to be needed for advanced and power users and not too much for the average user to use in those tools. I have it and I barely ever use anything there, but there is nothing that is a requirement to have on the system.

More info is definately needed for any real help here, the basics are OS version with what updates are installed, RAM & HDD capacity, AV & firewall info, and any changes recently made. If this is XP, follow Marty's post to turn off auto restarts which will force a BSOD on the next restart (crash). Post the contents of the BSOD screen in this post, EXACTLY as it is including punctuation. That is researchable information and tells us what failed to cause the restart. Turn off auto restarts: Open Control Panel - System - Advanced tab - startup & recovery box, settings button, and take

Marty I highly doubt that's the reason, well...I'm POSITIVE that you are not the reason for the low voter turnout, or the poll results. Just because you had a run in with one other member over political views, is not why the result is what it is, that's long been forgotten by everyone. No, it's more the overall view of everyone towards these types of subjects that's the real reason here for the low turnout and the final results, and not due to any one member or past arguments. I actually expected it to not pass by an even larger amount than it did, but I think it's just that most of the member

Hi Sethook I was also a bit disappointed with the voter turnout, but in defence of the 87 staff you included in there, Besttechie staff were asked NOT to take part in the voting. If the forum had been established, BT Staff would have been forbidden to take place in any topics posted in there. It would be absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to moderate with neutrality if we had participated in anything that would have gone on in there, so it made no sense to have staff vote on it either. I can't say I'm disappointed with the final result really, while I was all for the forum at first, I had a change of hear

NO!! The membership has spoken (barely...), and the answer to the poll question is, No...we do not want a P&R topics forum here. Only 36 votes on this subject, I would've thought we'd get more than that, but as we promised from the start, whatever side got the most votes was the winner. Looks like it's 20 - 16 for the No's...close. So here we are again, we have to say that NO political or religious topics will be allowed here at Bettechie.net. If you just have to talk about this, there are plenty of forums out there where you can argue until you're blue in the face about it, but we're not

AAAAGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /me runs away screaming and covering my eyes... Heheh...getting a tad thin in the back there eh buddy. My Dad and my brother are both pissed at me cause I got my hair gene from my Mom. They're both pretty much bald on top and I still have a full head of hair, well the hairline has receded some and the top is "thinning", but pretty much all there still. I love that t-shirt!! Fit's my philosophy well, I'm not Fat...I'm "Well rounded" I'm just loading Ubuntu onto my VM today, I hope it works. For some darn reason I couldn't get W98 to

Unless the picture is a little deceiving here, she looks like either a redhead or a deep strawberry blonde. She looks like a strawberry blonde to me from that photo, but sometimes it's hard to tell. Who's hair color does she have, Mum's or Dad's? Obviously she has Mum's good looks, since you're such an ugly ole bugger George ;),

Carlin has always been one of my Favorite stand up comics!! He doesn't need to splatter swear words all over the place to be funny (although he does at times), and his humor is the intelligent type.
-
Hmmm...would kinda wreck the joke if I took the swear word out, and since it's not a real baddie type one...

Now I think we have to ask ourselves here...what the HECK was the point the priest trying get across with a worm in a jar of sperm.....and WHO provided the jar's contents????

Q. If you're going to make a parachute jump, at least how high should you be? A. Charley Weaver: Three days of steady drinking should do it. Having been a semi-professional skydiver at one time in my previous life, this one is oh-so very true for some that are about to make their first jump...

Let us know how you make out with this please Bob. I'm very interested to see how well this section is going to work. I may have someone interested in that Graphics card also, I'll check with him and let you know. A couple of questions on it please..what manufacturer is it from? Is this a Chaintech or Asus or what? What year is it? S Video on it? TV out/in?

Hey folks Don't know if you've heard or not, but Mac's are going to Intel CPU chips from now on. Ok, you may be saying to yourself...."So what", well it's a HUGE deal really. This means that programs that previously could not run on Mac's because of the different architecture, can now be run on Mac's...and this includes Windows! That's right.. WINDOWS! The line between Mac's and PC's is not only blurred, it's almost completely erased. Read up on all the buzz that this is making, so I don't have to write it all out here. This is probably one of the Biggest changes in personal computing in recen

Some of those are downright hilarious Marty...THX!! I really love this one tho...."Q. When you pat a dog on its head he will wag his tail. What will a goose do? A. Paul Lynde: Make him bark? LOL...a "goose"...I loved Paul Lynde on that show!

Yes...dubious at best I'd say, but some I do agree with. The PC shutdown issue is one that I agree with, shutting off daily will NOT hurt your PC and every system needs a shutdown sooner or later to just clean things up. In the old days, some hardware's on/off cycle lifespan was notoriously short, like HDD's with a couple hundred cycles worth in them. Nowadays tho, they last over 50,000 cycles, so no amount of shutting down will cause any damage whatsoever, and this goes for pretty much all h'ware now. Those who say it's the "heat changes" that cycling can cause, fail to realize that this expa

Well, I didn't watch a SINGLE regular season NFL game this year...first time ever I didn't watch some, but I want the Seahawks to win it. They've always been one of my teams, behind green Bay of course (and my Sask Roughriders) and I would like to see them win their first ever super bowl in their very first try. I think they have the team to do it after watching that game Sunday, I missed the Steelers game so I'm not even sure what competition they'll have, but the Steelers sound like a strong team and it should be a good game at least.

Well so far this has been the warmest January I can remember, and we're pretty low on the snow accumulations too as a result. Usually we'll have 4-6' drifts between the roads by now, but we have more like 4-6" instead. Now I'm not complaining (too loudly anyway) about having a mild winter here in the hinterlands, but this is odd and it's not just this month or this year. It's the norm now it seems, to have very different weather than we're all used to having, and overall that has to be a tad worrisome. I really hope that this is all just a natural cycle of some sort, but then again....the Ice
