  1. When I was doing automotive repair work at my old shop I had a couple of customers that I had to do a bearing job for because of a cheap oil filter's gasket tearing. Of course they kept driving until the engine started to rattle. The idiot lights actually worked but they chose to ignore it. Their oil changes were done by one of those quick change shops. The filters were over tightened. I also did a bearing job on one that the same oil change shop didn't pull the old gasket and with the double gasket it just blew out. Same deal though with driving continually while the idiot light was on. That
  2. I agree. I have an old set of Gateway 2.1 speakers that I hardly use. I would rather plug in my headphones. If I want to listen to tunes I turn on my stereo system and still use the headphones. The neighbors complain if I use the speakers.
  3. Powerful speakers can cause problems with a CRT monitor but not a LCD. If it's a CRT use the Degauss feature. Another thing to check is interference from any power cords that are run near that side of the monitor. I had a table fan that the power cord ran by one side of my monitor (CRT) and caused the screen to mess up.
  4. I would check to see if the motherboard is shifting within the case causing it to short out. Also a flexible motherboard can cause the cards/memory sticks to loosen up when moving so reseat them after moving. Another thing to check is the power outlet. If this occurs at the same outlet either in the wall, power strip or UPS device this may be bad.
  5. I have already been to that site "The first few downloads have advertising software which pay for the file storage and can be easily removed in Add/Remove programs." SiGh That's the hazards with free sites. They need to pay their bills somehow. Using ads and spyware enables this.
  6. Steer clear of most third party XP themes sites especially themexp.org. They can install some very nasty malware. I usually use a combination of Paint and IrfanView to create my own wallpaper (desktop background). Using IrfanView you can even create a slideshow of different backgrounds for your desktop that will automatically change it at set intervals. Someone here may know of trustworthy sites that you could download themes from. I would make sure your computer is protected by using some suggested anti-malware programs. Recommended programs to protect you. AdAware AdAware tutorial SpyBot S&a
  7. Microsoft knows about it and responded by stating they would fix it.
  8. If a message box popped up with that I would suspect malware. It probably is trying to direct you to download a bogus program.
  9. That would be cool to catch BT at RIT. It's a great school and a decent campus. Of course he will have to pack warm clothes for the chilly season.
  10. If the router has one bad port and is causing your problem it is best to check it out now before total failure.
  11. This Dutchman never allowed a bottle to remain on a bar unless it was emptied first.
  12. Chappy logged in Sunday night..
  13. I can't even find what that update is for. I searched for KB913446 and received no reference to it anywhere. Thanks sethook.
  14. This was recommended at the AMD forums. Tyan Tomcat K8E Check out their forums. AMD Processor Support Forum
  15. It isn't the processor or computer brand that is the problem. it is the full time abuse the PCs receive at the kiddies hands. Print that beep/light code page out and carry it with you. You can impress the class and teacher with your knowledge of the troubles as they arise.
  16. From the Spokane BBB website. http://www.spokane.bbb.org/alerts/alerts.h...=227&newstype=1
  17. trying to click on the direct link to the problem at Symantec seems to be stalling. I willl quote the solution here and provide a link at Microsoft for finding this solution. http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-u...id=2514&sid=759

  19. Jimmy Johnson's crew chief Chad Knaus got caught cheating again. Let's see if the NASCAR officials actually punish him this time instead of rescinding his suspension.
  20. I find that to remove any anti-virus program it is best to do so in Safe Mode and make sure it isn't running on the taskbar.
  21. Nothing in your processes. I quit using Fireflop back at ver. 1.05 so I can't really help there. Is it set as your default browser? Is ZoneLabs allowing it?
  22. A message box popped up with that on your desktop?
  23. Have either of you contacted your ISP to see if there is a problem at their end? Are your firewalls configured correctly? Have you tried unplugging the power to your routers and or modems to recycle them?
  24. You can say that again! We usually get lake effect from Lake Erie until it freezes over, only to be replaced by more of the same from Lake Ontario, which never freezes. We're also around 100" under our normal snowfall for the season. Let's hope it stays that way. I cannot remember a January with so many days of temps in the 40's & 50's instead of subzero. It is pleasant not being blanketed by all that snow and having the furnace run constant. Of course National Grid (formerly Niagara Mohawk) decide to punish us with a surcharge because we haven't used as much natural gas as they pred
