  1. I saw the wholesale price is $1.46 a gallon on the futures market this morning on whatever the financial news network is (Cable 41 here in Dallas, probably CNN Financial) so I guess the rest is Tax and profit. Gonna fill up this afternoon, looks like $2.01-04 is my target range. I paid $2.09 last time I filled up.
  2. Welcome JD and hi everyone. Good to see the board is back up.
  3. That is why you need to go to disk management and partition the rest of the drive. XP without the service packs, cannot see the entire drive, it has a 137 GB limit. http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/faq/137_winxp.html Thus when you partitioned it to install XP, you created one 137GB partition (which shows as 130GB after you take into account the digital/binary ratio) and the rest is unallocated space. You will have to create a second partition.
  4. I agree with JDoors, is it your router or modem you are unplugging? Does the modem loose its signal? Or just you loose your internet connection on your computer? Are their other computers connected/ sharing this connection? Do they also lose the connection?
  5. http://www.securityfocus.com/columnists/358 Interesting read , and Blacklight from Fsecure appears to be a better tool than Rootkit revealer which tends to be detected as a virus itself.
  6. so is saving my password consisdered complex file sharing <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Um, sure ... You can't stipulate users:passwords with Simple File Sharing. You are forced to use Guest. So there's no passwords to share. Fix? Get WinXP Pro, Win2k or Win2k3. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How about putting a password on the guest account? Would this force it to request that password? I see in control userpasswords2 there is an option to set a password on guest account. Or would it just create a new generic guest account without password ?
  7. http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_professional.html This line "one of my computers" makes me feel that it is a good feature to keep enabled. It will protect you if one of your other computers gets infected with a network enabled virus or worm.
  8. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvc] "Start"=dword:00000004 The enabled value is 0x00000002 (The 0x just means it is a hexadecimal value ) You can edit this manually just go there, and when you select the folder wscsvc on the left, then double click the start on the right, where it says 4 change it to 2 The rest, I would just manage from within windows security center in the control panel.
  9. Normally, with usb devices you install the software first , then connect the device when prompted. Did you do this? Or have you already connected the camera? If so go to device manager and remove it and any unknown or malfunctioning devices. Secondly, make sure the install cd is not dirty or damaged. If it is not, make sure your cdrom drive is clean by using a cdrom laser lens cleaner disk. If this does not solve it , try copying the files from the cdrom to a folder on your hard drive (using windows explorer) and installing from the folder.
  10. The problem is that it compacts the cookies into a single file, much like Outlook express compacts all the emails in say your inbox folder into a single inbox.dbx file. C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.vul\cookies.txt So while you can edit them this way, tools/ options/ privacy / cookies/ view cookies is the easiest way to delete them.
  11. The most common cause of this is that for some reason there are two copies of firefox running , one of which you cannot see. It often happens if you have a connection problem and firefox is trying to connect and you close it and relaunch. It did not close, so it opened a new copy and created a new user profile. In this case the best thing to do is shut down and restart, then launch the firefox profile manager by going to start / run and typing firefox /p and hit enter choose your old profile and login. Often if you can identify the two profiles and then delete the other you will not have an
  12. I agree, the first step is to enter bios setup and change the boot order to not include the cdrom. I would make the IDE 0 / primary hard drive the only boot option . How to configure your bios Once in XP, try going to control panel/ hardware/ device manager and locate the cdrom / select properties and disable in this profile. (or boot to safe mode) see if this solves the problem. I really think that your friend will wind up opening the computer or taking it to a shop. It sounds like there is a power problem and he will wind up replacing the power supply or possibly the cdrom. Disconnnecting t
  13. http://forums.g4tv.com/messageview.cfm?cat...threadid=488268 Your thread at G4 Look familiar? http://www.pakatak.com/digital-video-recorder.htm Four camera digital video capture card. The other option would be that they are BNC connectors for a 10 base 2 ethernet configuration.
  14. Update your video card drivers. You may want to unplug computer, open it up and make sure that the graphics card is seated and locked down and that its fan is plugged in. If you have any card in the PCI slot nearest to the video card, move it over . It sounds like your video card is locking up.
  15. Edited. sin was already working on this log. One staff member per log, please. 16. If you do not find a solution here, ask Ramona from mozilla.org over at windowsbbs.com Did you by any chance delete the cookie and have the do not allow deleted cookies to be reloaded option checked? Expand the cookies section on tools /options/ privacy. Click exceptions and see if they are blocked.
  17. Double check your settings in norton. It is quite possible that when you installed the worm protection you changed a setting and it now scans all files on access.
  18. Support Driver Graphic drivers You do not specify an OS so you will have to locate it, it is under IGP Graphics Drivers > SiS 530> OS goes here.
  19. Yeah, I have my home PCs set up so that I can use the used fabric softner (bounce) sheets from the laundry . I just outline the intake holes on the case with a 3M kids gluestick and cut a peice to cover it. Peels off easily and for replacement when it gets dirty. Works so good, I put them behind the prefilters on the window air conditioner units too. They even absorb cigarette smoke (not that I smoke, but the OL is a chimney)
  20. How about your video aperture in bios. Any chance it got reduced? I have seen this happen when you have a lot of images / graphics textures loaded and not enough aperture and also have caching disabled in bios. So, what video card, with how much ram. What video aperture in bios , and is caching of video enabled.?
  21. http://www.overclockers.com/tips1092/ Of course you could just use a 12V radiator if you want more air flow.
  22. I presume you mean http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ I have used it in the past, but not downloaded recently to see what changed. I never noticed that any of the stuff was not freeware/ abandonware. Which ones prompt you to buy them?
  23. I'd go with it being a short too. When things warm up, the motherboard shifts and something shorts. Did you use two red fiber washers for each mounting screw? One above and one below the motherboard? Did you make sure there were no unused brass standoffs, or if you have domes on your case, that unused ones were plugged with nylon T standoffs to prevent shorts? Did you use the correct mounting screws (domes use different ones than standoffs) so the motherboard is secure? (Do not overtighten). It could also be the processor. Are you sure it was properly locked down and same with the heatsink?

  25. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2087-1754008,00.html This is very interesting and holds great promise. In theory , drugs could be designed to turn on these genes temporarily in injured individuals or the aged to facilitate healing and replacement of damaged and missing tissues. Very similar to the hypothetical developement in Heinleins "Time Enough For Love" of regeneration and rejuvenation treatments capable of turning back the years and extending human lifespan to several times its "natural " length. I wonder if this will get the funding it deserves and if they can get it to expan
