I think the danger from the emailing and posting on boards about these virus hoaxes is they may desensitize people to the very real dangers of all the real scumware that is out to "get us"!!! I suspected this one as being a hoax just by the title/subtitle of how bad it was. Pat God bless everyone.

I usually shut it all down, except lately while I have been having freeze-up crashes on boot up due to Norton problems. So only shut down if absolutely essential...like bad weather and I have to unplug the new UPS, then I pray that I can boot up again when I plug it all back in. I must say that my cat has been enjoying having the computer/monitor on...she likes to watch the Screen Saver Beziers that I have set for 30 minutes of no use. When I get this thing all fixed up with a new internet security pkg....leaning towards McAfee's right now (but could that just be frying pan into the fire?)...

Hi Mac, and everyone else too. Liz, Barb, Bozodog, everybody....come on and join the Tickle Mac party. It's the end of February with lots of winter blues to get rid of...we needed a good excuse like this for a party!!! If we get Mac back to being cheerful, funny, and happy then things can return to normal around here... our usual wierd but normal stuff!! Hugs to Mac, we missed you!!! Pat God bless everyone.

If Evolution is a "sure fact", then why are there extinct animals, birds, etc? And if everything survives by evolving to current conditions, then why do we worry about endangered species? Why do we think we are hungry when we see a food commercial even though we just ate? Why do we only decide to diet after we have eaten a good meal instead of before it? Why do we persist in doing the very thing that hasn't worked for the dozen times we tried it before? Why do we try to explain the unexplainable? Why do engaged people think that the idiosyncrasies of their beloved are cute before they marry b

I resemble those remarks. Ha!!! I get lots of exercise going down to the basement for something from my pantry, and forgetting what I went down for. And oh my, the trouble I have if I go down for more than one thing!!! Aint getting old fun??? Actually the memory thing started in my late 30's or early 40's...can't remember for sure just when...drove me wild at the time but now I am used to it being flaky. I think the term is CRS, for "cant remember......stuff" yeah? right??? Ha Ha!!! Pat God bless everyone.

Thanks to Liz for the directions to make (and keep) the image bigger, Hubby and I had a good chuckle over the country folks' technology. Funny how I am more in tune with that tech, than I am with this new fangled type. But then I am still a country gal at heart. Pat God bless everyone.

Wow Liz, that sure was chaotic weather for you. Am glad everyone ok. Hubby and I survived our tip of the arctic cold, high winds, of course the wind chill made it all that much more miserable for anyone out and about. The winds were so bad, I didn't want to use the wood stove, so it was lucky we didn't have power outages at our home, though some outages elsewhere due to trees falling down on lines. I can't remember a winter, except for the 1962 Columbus Day storm, that had so many trees down from storms. Both of us are getting over laryngitis (sp?), and assorted other cold miseries, so it was

Wow you folks sure had miserable cold weather!!! We just had a tip of that arctic cold front all through the NW with Washington being hit the hardest, and the East side of the Cascades for both Oregon and Washington being extremely cold. Of course we had our famous Columbia River Gorge East winds howling through the east wind exposure part of Portland metro area. Ugly windchills Brrrr!!! We had nighttime temps in the high teens and low 20's here, and winds about 35 to 40, with gusts to about 50, closer to the Gorge had gusts to about 75. Broke temperature records all over the NW, some here in

Stay Warm everyone who is in the deep freeze zone of arctic air over so much of the country. Liz I hope you and your kids, and Bozodog too, weren't in the path those severe thunderstorms today. The weather channel listed Grand Rapids in the path, and I couldn't tell how much more of your state. And hope everyone else in that zone of unsettled tornado/thunderstorm trouble is ok too. I heard that baseball sized hail fell in St Louis. Yikes, that would sure be hard on heads or vehicles. The winds have started here, but not to bad yet. We are on warmer side of the cold so far, but not for long i

I said I'd be back to tell you what I found out about the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility tool. So here goes. First I found it mentioned in the Jan 06 issue of PC World magazine in an article called Gunk Busters. PC World mag Gunk Busters Cleaning Windows Next is the Microsoft article with link to tool download on this Windows Installer Clean Up Utility tool. Microsoft article and link to download of Windows Installer Clean Up Utility Be careful not to take out needed stuff if you use this program. I have it downloaded, not going to use it unless I need to. I did check what it listed, and

Hi Pete, Same problem here in Oregon with purchasing anything with Pseudo-ephedrine in it, or I should say it is worse here because you have to go to the Doctor for a short term only prescription for it, plus sign a narcotic type statement and present all sorts of id. Yeah it's available all up and down the West Coast via drug traffickers, but not on pharmacy shelves for normal people to buy. Now they are going after Iodine, and MSM which is a great product for arthritis pain relief for humans an animals but supposedly used to "cut" narcotics, so what's next to ban - powdered sugar or flour?

Thanks alot Barb, I kind of figured it would have to be done in that order, hadn't thought of the reboot though. Thanks. I found another useful bit of information yesterday reading back issues of PC World magazine while doing a Bitdefender online scan (clean). The Jan 06 issue had an article on Gunk Busters, mostly over my head, but part of it said there is a Windows Clean Up Utility tool that cleans up stuck or leftovers. So checked it out today. I had previously read someplace that Symantec uses the Windows Installer, that it doesn't uninstall in Safe Mode, so was wondering how else to get

Gee Whiz what an awful thing to have happen! I hope the loss of oil didn't do damage to your engine. I just related your experience to my hubby, he said he'd never heard of that happening before. Also he wants to know what brand of oil filter/gasket it was so he can avoid that brand. I was wondering if the filter had been put on crooked, if the pressure on one side could have split the gasket? (Hubby says no.) Hope things are back to normal for you now, and no more such stresses to life. P.S. We just had a wierd experience this weekend. My hubby was cleaning the battery connections on our S

Thanks Bearskin, Yes I have read that one, and have it as a backup plan. (though they keep on modifying it). My problem seems to be that I have some bits and pieces of an older 2003 version according to the Automated Assistant and LiveUpdate errors, even though I used their special tool to get rid of it before installing the later 2005AV and 2004FW versions that I have now. Also the LiveUpdate had me install the newest LiveUpdate which I should have followed my gut that it was wrong thing to do, so now have scads of LiveUpdates or parts there of in my system. And now LiveUpdate is not working

Thanks for the reply. I recently read that Norton uses the new Windows installer, so supposedly it wont uninstall in Safe Mode because of that. Though will try it anyways. Thanks. Pat God bless everyone
