  1. WoW!!! Did this storm set any records for snow amount, or for lateness in year for this bad a blizzard etc? Will you need to sandbag around your place to prevent the meltoff of snow behind your place from entering your place rather than going around it? Take care you don't get to exhausted doing snow removal and any sandbagging!!! Pat God bless everyone.
  2. I am glad it handles better for you now. Did you have an alignment done when you got the new tires? Might be a good idea to have it done to preserve your tires if it isn't aligned right especially due to all the wrecks, potholes etc an older car has been through. Would probably save you the equivalent cost of uneven tire wear over life of tires. Be sure and check the shocks too, they are a handling and safety issue if not in good shape. Depending on brand, like Bilsteins (sp?) they might have lifetime warranty on them. Pat God bless everyone.
  3. I love Dave Barry's sense of humor! Sure do miss his weekly syndicated newspaper column. I think he is writing books now, don't know if he still lives in Florida...can't remember what city it was. Pat God bless everyone.
  4. Interesting news. I tried to update today (forgot to do it yesterday), but 'update page was down...so sorry for inconvenience'. I just figured they were changing it for some reason. I sure hope it will still be freely available though I have a feeling it wont be after reading the article. Sigh! Pat God bless everyone.
  5. Wow JSKY, that looks miserable especially so late in the year. I hope there isn't any major flooding when it warms up! I bet your storm is part of the cold front that came down our way from Alaska last week, we had nighttime lows in mid to upper 30's F. The snow level was down to about 1200 to 1500 feet, so even the Coastal mountains got some snow, and the Cascades got a couple of feet or more over several days of it. We had a cold rain with some wind here even some showers on Easter. Hubby mowed Monday even with the occasional showers. Sunny yesterday all day and warmer. Night before last was
  6. Happy Belated Birthday! May you be blessed with a long life filled with good health, happiness, and prosperity. Pat God bless everyone.
  7. Happy Birthday! May you be blessed with a long life filled with good health, happiness, and prosperity. Pat. God bless everyone.
  8. Welcome to the best boards since TTV's! That's 'cuz so many here are refugees from there, G4, Leoville, and elsewhere....makes us a great big world wide family! I was a very new newbie at TTV, still don't know enough to keep this 'personal confuser' from driving me nuts occasionally and making me want to throw it out the window. This old lady (61) doesn't have much patience anymore...who am I kidding...I never had much to start with! I recognize your screen name, but can't quite remember you sir, sorry about that. I hope to see you posting alot here, doesn't have to be tech, just gabbing i
  9. Happy Birthday! May you be blessed with a long life filled with good health, happiness, and prosperity. Pat God bless everyone.
  10. Happy Birthday! May you be blessed with a long life filled with good health, happiness, and prosperity. Pat. God bless everyone.
  11. Our Vancouver Washington, Portland Oregon, metro area has been having an outbreak of the norovirus (aka the cruise ship virus). It's already killed 3 elderly people from a nursing home and sickened at least 300 since February, nursing and retirement home patients/hospital staff/ambulance workers etc. Very potent gastrointestinal virus, and easily transmitted to others. Second page of this article explains why it is such a bad virus. Norovirus: hardy and potent So there are plenty of common nasty bugs that can cause us sickness, misery, and even death. Stay healthy folks. Pat God bless everyon
  12. Spoiled brats! What a cushy job!!! I remember working in fields so far from the toilets that it took all your break time (one midmorning one late afternoon, half hour lunch) just to walk there and get back to your row before the section boss started docking you! Can't remember how much we earned, just enough to help put food on the family table. Yes gas was around a quarter unless a gas war was going on. Of course that included our free drinking glasses or whatever else the full service station was giving out at the time. A cold front storm system moving in tonight, rain for the next few days
  13. If I had five dollars for every time I have threatened to throw this 'personal confuser' out the window, I could go buy a nice new one!!! Cookouts for this area will be rained out over next few days, a good storm system is tracking towards us for tonight on, for rain here in the Willamette Valley, but low (below pass levels) snow levels in Cascade moutains with 1 to 2 feet of snow expected. That may put a crimp in people's Easter travel plans from one side of the state to another, no studded tires or chains after April 1st, I hope people use them anyhow if needed in spite of the ban. I hope
  14. Who needs a Google page? I have the Google toolbar but reduced down and shoved up on a blank spot on my top IE toolbar next to help. I have the word Google, a dropdown arrow for stuff, a search bar, G Search with drop down arrow for search options, and two sideways arrows to click on spell check and other stuff when needed. Takes less than half of my IE top toolbar. It took some finagling to get it to work there, but I am pretty stubborn, so I eventually won. Pat God bless everyone.
  15. I saw this sickening article in Sunday's paper. I have seen similar articles before on many items from computers to milk jugs to plastic sacks, to rags.... on and on with our trash...we don't follow up on how "recycling" is really done or if it is just dumped in some poor country to contaminate lives and environment someplace else...the NIMBY mentality. Googled for original Knight Ridder News Service article to share with you. Be sure to click on photos, and mouse hover over them to get descriptions. World's Discarded Computers land in China's digital scrap heap Not only is this a problem for
  16. Glad you all liked the articles!!! I sure would like to see many more such uplifting upbeat news stories about people doing good things just because it's the right thing to do!!! Lead with the good stuff, then use the middle of newscast for doom and gloom, and then follow up with more good stuff. Now that is a news format I could really get to like. Take care folks to do at least one good deed everyday (real world and on boards) just because!!! Love Pat God bless everyone.
  17. Today's Oregonian had a new update to this great story. Katrina Rescuer Realizes Dream I love good stories like this one!!! Pat God bless everyone.
  18. I have read that you can uninstall newdotnet in your add/remove programs, but you should wait for the real tech help to make sure that is correct info. And probably a good idea to stick with your main thread for your HJT log, rather than doing it by bits and pieces threads. Also unless you are a hjt log expert doing it by yourself is probably not a good idea as you might end up taking out either needed computer stuff, or removing the clues to deeper hidden stuff that would help the HJT experts solve the problems. So be patient, help will come when the experts have time to help you. And good
  19. Thanks Marty, Apology accepted. Yes sometimes I get myself upset over things that are said, and then go out on a limb about it. So I am sorry too. I just wanted to make some things clear of how I felt and when I do that I often make them as 'clear as mud instead". So I am glad you cleared up your views, and I hope mine didn't offend you either. When you mentioned Asians, it sort of became personal to me as my deceased half brother married a Korean lady while he was stationed in Korea then brought her back to the US, eventually he retired and they moved to Colorado. She and their two grown chi
  20. I found this Oregonian article today about an interesting type of board games. Has anyone played any like these? If historically correct, they would be a fun way to learn. And of course would be a good family activity. Rolling the dice with their own game An additional website to check out; Board Game Geek forums etc Perhaps board games will never die out especially if ordinary individuals keep on inventing good stuff. Although not yet big enough to compete with the big game companies, they are making interesting changes to the status quo. Pat God bless everyone.
  21. Found this article in our local Oregonian, but because it was an Associated Press article, it wasn't on the Oregonian's online website, so Googled for it. Here is the story from USA Today. Sometimes it seems like we live in a small world, and then there are times like this. Business flight across China leaves man stranded. When travel agents make mistakes it isn't always easy to fix the problem. And American Express wasn't any help even though it should have been. Was kind of surprised there was no mention of Intel helping either! Sure glad he made it back here to the NW and his family ok. Pat
  22. This article might be of interest to you all. Read further down the article. Also the side bar articles are of interest too. We are not complacent about the issue here, in fact our labs and others around the world are trying to develop faster tests for this strain of bird flu, and come up with vaccines. I just don't see the need to be panicking over this as a pandemic (about 109 people have died from this so far so definitely doesn't qualify as a pandemic. It sure doesn't do any good, and the fear/anxiety may in fact lower your body's immune system as does any major stress. US News and World
  23. Happy Birthday Lindsay, May you be blessed with a long life filled with good health, happiness, and prosperity. Pat God bless everyone.
