    Which OS?

geeee, let me see I'd have to go with Mandrake 10.1!!! and to cowsgonemadd3 I'd have to say, whatever has the tools you need to complete the task you want to accomplish and also be comfortable using it....there isn't one right answer for that question.
  2. Hey Matt, not sure if you've tried this yet...tried running search in safe mode?....I'm not even sure if search works in safe mode and don't feel like booting to windows to check ...but that would eliminate the possibility that something else is interfering with it and if by chance it does work, you could try to track down the PITA program edit: and shame on you for not backing up your stuff, you should know better...you're dealing with windows for cryin' out loud!!!!!!
  3. sounds like you've tried everything except a clean install....If something bugged me as much as this seems to bug you, I'd probably have done that a while back. but then again it's easier (and quicker) for me to reinstall mandrake.
  4. ya' don't say!!!! jeesh bearskin, keep your hormones in check btw, what red blooded male wouldn't like that sig?
  5. yeah, what they said!...happy Birthday BD!!! didn't show up on the board index like everyone elses....is this privileged chat info I missed?
  6. What a crazy lady...lol this could get funny or ugly really fast but I guess I'll play 1) I spend hours on end in front of the PC neglecting other facets of my life...lol 2) I like taco bell too but I really like burger king.....good thing I have the metabolism of a humming bird, and still look pretty good for 36 3) I'm secretly hoping that I'll be a far better parent to my little one that's on the way, than my father was
  7. Happy Birthday, screi!!! best wishes for many more
  8. awwwwww, as Nerelda says...so cute! and imagine that, a little baby that's not freaked out by the sight of the jolly fat man...lol
  9. hey Marty, It's great to know the tar and untar commands but I'd just copy the file from the CD by going to /mnt/cdrom r-click intel-536ep-4.69-mdk10-up.tgz>copy and paste it to your /home/Marty (or whatever) directory, then>r-click intel-536ep-4.69-mdk10-up.tgz>actions>extract here...then open the "intel-536EP-2.56.76.0-mdk10-UP" folder that is created>r-click inside the folder>actions>"open terminal here"...then do as the readme.txt says. good luck, T.
  10. Is this a pre-built machine?...by that I mean, did it come with XP installed and you only have restore disks?..or do you have an XP CD? If you have an XP install CD, I would try opening a command prompt and type "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes)...have your XP CD ready when it asks for it to repair the files. If that fails, I'd try a repair through recovery console...but one step at a time
  11. hey icarros, thanks for pointing out the rpms, I actually got it to install after installing 3 other rpms, 1 at a time upon request of Ardour when trying each subsequent install. imagine my surprise when it finally installed, I did a jackd -d alsa, and it seemed to work..then I tried creating a new project using default templates...ERROR:cannot create pixmaps from template (or something like that)....I got it to open not using a template and just creating the tracks. so, just as a test I tried saving a little riff and it wouldn't save as anything. Now, new problem, I try doing jackd -d alsa an

  13. you could try here...#57 right hand side for restoring run command....#235 left hand side for restoring help and support. hope it helps
  14. Hi bozodog, I like Logitech cams...I have This one, but they have cheaper models if you didn't plan on spending that much.
  15. hey, thanks iccaros! now the trick would be getting it to install...lol It seems to need GTK+, when I try to install that, GTK+ needs something.....I haven't given up and like what I see for screenshots of it, so I'll get this to work or die tryin' thanks again, T. OMG, I owe you a big apology...I just noticed in this post that I typo'd your S/N and fixed it, then wondered if I did it to your bootsplash too, sure enough, I put Icarros...really wish you would've said something..if you want me to make you another, I'll try to get right on it, for being such a tool...sorry, T.
  16. LOL....I don't generally use my laptop on my lap for fear of it overheating and damaging it...didn't give the little swimmers a thought...lol....hmmmm, probably why there's a baby page in my sig..
  17. Hey Gang, Since I've been trying to find the Linux equivalent to all my Windows software, I thought it would be a good idea for a thread. While there are many choices for software in Linux (realizing probably many more than windows), there still remains the search for the best (or better than) equivalent to Win apps. It's great that we can enjoy Firefox, Thunderbird, the GIMP, and a few others that are cross platform but a couple things I'm personally looking for are apps comparable to Dreamweaver and Guitar Tracks Pro...which I have yet to find, it seems there is no substitute. But I guess
  18. Hi Marty, If I'm understanding you right, it sounds like you just need to take the CD out, make sure your BIOS is set to boot from the floppy drive before the HD and put the boot floppy in, then restart....sorry if I'm misunderstanding the problem hey icarros, hitest's link gives a no such file error....after diggin' around a couple message boards I found this link for the 45 day evaluation.....think that's the best you're gonna find....linux not free?...UGH!
  19. hey shadow....thanks for the kudos good luck with the soundman gig, not everybody can be a musician but every professional musician needs a soundman....as long as you enjoy what you do and have the skills (which they obviously see) your talent will be apparent and you'll do great. good luck, T.
  20. hmmmm, equipment? <---an old strat style copy (that one to be precise...lol)....a Korg toneworks multi-effect stomp and a tascam 4 track. unfortunately, that was recorded before my tech enlightenment, I use the same equipment now (minus the tascam) but with my PC running cakewalk-guitar tracks pro (awesome software) once upon a time, I had all the pro gear but now I neither have the need or the room for it all...no longer in a band and do it only for personal enjoyment... I'm happy with a couple electrics, an ovation acoustic, my stomp pedal and a PC...now all I need is to find a linux soft
  21. Very cool, glad you like it...thanks for the appreciation T.
  22. Hey Guys, Thanks for the thumbs up on the song Yep, that's all me, bearskin....right down to the tapping out the drums on a radio shack keyboard...lol
