THANKS GUYS!!!!!! Sure, I'm a whopping 36 today....I stopped being ashamed of getting older when I realized I'm Peter Pan...still getting guessed for mid-20s.....can't complain about those genetics, considering how much I've abused myself over the years. and speaking of abusing myself.....I think I might just have that extra beer...lol thanks again, T.

thanks for the responce jcl, That's kinda what I figured "end of life product support" meant...wasn't sure though. I was pretty sure the rpms wouldn't just "go bad" or disappear off the net but wasn't sure if you could still retrieve them via rpmdrake....not that any of this really applies to me but was curious since Marty is reinstalling 9.1....I'm pretty sure Marty is on dial-up and can understand the ordeal of d/loading the latest version but I sure wouldn't wanna be stuck with a version that makes it harder to maintain...not to mention all the improvements that have been made recently in

I kinda have a question but since this would apply to Marty's situation and not mine, I thought I should ask it in his thread. this is from mandrakesoft's newsletter: * End of Life Product Support * Mandrakelinux 9.1 - upgrade to a newer version today! When they announce the "end of life product support" (for whatever version you're running), are you still able to update?...(security and bugfixes at least?)

Since I was a little late coming to B's board, I missed this thread and wanna thank thesidekickcat for bringing it back out of obscurity...I don't think I've seen as much openess in any forum as I've read in this thread...it took the "getting to know you" to a whole new level....sounds like a few of the folks here have had some serious adversity in their lives and I'd like to wish them and all members of B's forum the best for good health and happiness for this holiday season. So, I figure since I know quite a bit more about you fine people, I should bring you into my strange little world a l

Since I have no experience with Satellite ISPs, what speeds are you getting now?...that would probably be a deciding regardless of price (well, for me anyway) how far are you from the bellsouth central office?...anything past 15 miles is usually a lower speed....I'm within the 15 miles of verizon's CO and get 1.5Mb for $34 a month...I'm very happy with that price for the service...and seldom a problem in 3 years

Mine is definitely stupid, created in haste and it stuck....tictoc=my initials (TCT) and 5150= a Police radio call # for a mentally disturbed person + I'm a Van Halen fan (pre 5150 CD) Like anything, the more you use a name the more you get used to it, even if it's a stupid one. I'm going on 4 years with this one and have tried to change it but always go back to it....unlike MistaMatt90, I don't have anyone who would dare have an intervention about my S/N for fear I might go 5150 on them...lol

Yeah, Happy Thanksgiving folks!!!!

sorry Nerelda, couldn't find any reviews but did find this thread about them being rebadged benQ drives with OEM firmware....they also talk about flashing the drives with the benQ firmware....the black friday price and rebates sound like a good deal.

no prob on the extension link...I was kinda bothered that some bookmarks had favicons and some didn't...didn't get around to rectifying that til I got that extension (this morning)...even made a little blue "B" for this place. LOL!!! hmmmm, I wonder if he'd get picked on in school for a name like that....lol thanks for the compliment on the page, it's definitely a work in progress...I seem to find something I don't like about it or just a minor change everyday....trying to keep it as simple as possible considering my html skills are limited

hey bearskin, I left this link for ya' on the "other" boards....figured you'd come here first though...I know I always do

Heh. I don't think I've ever intentionally wiped a system that was recoverable unless I was planning to replace it. ok, I think I stand corrected but could you elaborate...a clean install isn't the way to go with linux?...going from 9.1 to 10.1 isn't like going from win98 to xp?....lol...sorry, I know I'm still a bit windows minded ....don't mind me ...lol
-
hey marty, glad you made some progress with the knoppix CD Mandrake CDs are fine for wiping the existing partitions, no need to d/load anything else. I can't answer this with certainty since I'm still new to linux but I generally follow the same advice as windows.....why try to upgrade something, when a clean install is a fresh start....10.x will be able to delete the older version anyway, if thats what you meant.

"An old ordinance declares goatees illegal unless you first pay a special license fee for the privilege of wearing one in public." ~MA geee, I feel like such a criminal...40 lashes for the guy with a hairy chin...lol I guess the reason it's called taxachusetts started long before I moved here.

thought the wallpaper looked kinda familiar...Michael has some nice spacescape stuff. Nice setup but why no linux drive/partition?

amen!!! I wish I had never done that and just learned linux from the start...the only use I find for my windows knowledge now is to fix other people's PCs...almost pains me to boot mine to XP...lol gonna have to go shopping for some stuffed penguins for the nursery...lol

If you're not getting an error, and it just sits there like a $***, it seems like the problem I had with an earlier version and my HP pavilion...in which case icarros is right...try typing "knoppix noapm" ...or "apm=off" at the prompt (without the quotes)...or get a newer version of knoppix. btw Marty, I notice you're one of the first to jump on people for not properly posting the errors and such on the other board...ya might wanna practice what you preach. (sorry, no offense intended) I consider myself an "ordinary user" and have had my share of difficulties but I learn as I go with help fro

hey iccaros, just letting you know I haven't forgot about you took a couple more tries at the bootsplash which seem to fail miserably. also tried installing the development packages for MDK which also failed. then got busy over the past few days...I'll free up some time to work on it soon. of those I have the kernel source installed....Gnome and KDE give a $***load of errors when trying to install (and thats from the CDs) or the package manager hangs...there is no X11 development package in MDK 10.1...or at least I can't find it.

Hey all, thanks for the best wishes and congrats. Due to the fact that the Mom and I being unconventional people, we aren't married and are more like friends (it is 2004 after-all...sorry if unwed parenthood makes ya squirm...hehe)...my ex-wife and I were friends/lovers for over 5 years, got married and 2 years later were neither...lol...So, neither of us is really looking for a ring but we both welcome this little bundle of joy (translation: demon spawn....lol) She already has one and kinda knows what to expect, me on the other hand, a total noob. It's still very early on so I'm looking forwa

Hey all you fine people of besttechie, I just thought I'd share my interesting news....I've actually known for a few days but didn't think it would be right to post it on the boards til I let my Mom know she was gonna be a Grandma....Just told her about it an hour ago...think she already feels older...lol While it's unplanned and unexpected...it's far from unwanted. This will be my first and since I'm on the verge of turning 36, the thoughts of having someone to pass my quirks on to has been a thought creeping out of the dark recesses of my twisted mind. Voila!!!! slipped one past the goalie,

first off, thanks for the kudos on the quicky...I'll try to do better now that I know what to expect and how 16 color images behave.....I tested that image out as a boot screen in XP and found out just how brutal 4 bit can be...looked a bit sloppy but something very cool and ominous about it too. easy huh?....lol...nothing is easy in my world!...hahaha [tictoc5150@localhost gif2lss-0.4]$ make rm -f gif2lss.o cc -c -g -Wall -O2 -o gif2lss.o gif2lss.c make -C gif_lib make[1]: Entering directory `/home/tictoc5150/gif2lss-0.4/gif_lib' gcc -I. -D__X11__ -fno-builtin -g -c -W -Wreturn-type -Wcommen

I agree, I can't say "never" though....g4 is kinda like a car wreck that you can't help but look at as you drive by...lol

Mandrake 10.1 Official Released
tictoc5150 replied to tictoc5150's topic in Linux & Unix Tips and Tricks
hey hitest, I didn't sign up for anything other than becoming a mandrake club member, and that was to get 10.1 official as soon as it went official and to get KDE3.3 (which I can't install!...lol)...Unless mandrakesoft turned into an M$ clone and can identify an install by some secret product activation...lol......I didn't have to sign up for updates in 10.0CE or 10.0 official, I asume that hasn't changed. I take it you still haven't been able to connect.....If I might make a suggestion, open "software media manager" and try adding as an ftp server -->"ftp://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/ftp.mandra -
hey icarros, I took a stab at something yesterday, before I had any idea what you were looking for....tougher than I thought working with 16 color images. the .lss is gonna be another hurdle, seemed to get a whole bunch of errors trying to install png2lss I'll take another shot now that I have some idea of what you're looking for but since I have no shame, here's a peek at what I thought might look cool coming up on my screen...lol (still just a bmp but it's 4 bit)

Hi icarros, I mounted sda1 at /home/tictoc5150/....the drive shows up there and has "local net sharing" in its properties but selecting shared doesn't share it....probably way off on this one but also tried creating an NFS mount within ~/ >> the drive shows up on box 2 but gives an error when trying to access ("mount: can't find /mnt/win_c3 in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab)....done quite a bit of googling to see if someone else was trying to accomplish what I am and can't really find anyone doing the same thing....I wouldn't think that it would be that uncommon with alot of people dual bootin
