Jeesh hitest! some of us newbies like KDE 3.2 (heh, 3.3 won't install for some reason, invalid signatures I think )...but still better than seeing a windows desktop IMO anyway, here's my latest creation (several pics I found around the web, thrown into the GIMP) on mandrake 10.1

As hitest says, there are a few that are "windows like" in behavior but are advantages. I almost hate to recommend the most "windows like"...lol BUT...I installed Xandros for a day to see what it was like and was really freaked out by how much it seemed like windows (right down to the whole "my documents" thing)...hence, why it was only installed for a day. Don't take this as a recommendation, I'd go with the distros that hitest mentioned....IMO, it's better to dump windows (if you don't need it) and dive in to linux...iccaros, jcl and hitest are always around the boards so there will be water

read this dimwits article My mother loves sending me links to articles like this, not sure why but I think she likes to get me fired up. instead of posting my rant to the article discussion, I sent it to her...don't think I'll get another link about an MS product for a while...lol

Just to add to the other posts, are you using a software firewall? when using zone alarm firewall, I had to add the NAT IPs of each networked machine to each of the other machines trusted zone in zone alarm config...(ex. 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.3s trusted zone, and vice versa)....(just to test, I'd try disabling all firewalls to eliminate that as an issue)....not saying that it's the problem, but something else you could check. hope it helps, T.

Hi Mike, With me being new to linux, I wouldn't think of giving any technical advice...iccaros has got the linux smarts covered. But libdvdcss is pretty easy to come by, I don't even think I've gotten it from the same place twice HERE looks like a good place to start....It should be as easy as d/l'ing the first in the list (libdvdcss-1.2.8-2.network.i386.rpm)> double click> enter root password>let it install>start xine and watch a dvd. hope it helps, T.

Long shot, yes...Impossible, no As long as both parties are communicating honestly, the odds improve If both are actually mentally healthy, even moreso (what are the odds of that though?...lol) It helps quite a bit if they're local, long distance sucks and I don't think I've ever known anyone that's made that work. Oh, give it up...it's futile unless you're just looking to propagate....Mine is due in July!!!

Thanks for the responses guys, I think I'll probably chuck the whole frames idea, for now I did a work-around from the home page with the link to open the page in a new window (or tab)...I'm still pretty new to html and not sure how advanced I really want to get in learning it...It's not like I'm looking for a job in web design. hmmmm, negative...the link will only open the page in the banner area. and just so you know Matt, that isn't what I was trying to do...all my nav links on the page are linked that way....I want a link that kills the frame and takes it to home...not open the homepag

hey JSKY, thanks for responding No matter where I put the link, it'll only open in the same area of the frame that the link is in...I've tried it in every section of the frame and get the same results. googled the hell outta of this and can't seem to figure out how to do it...I'm about ready to scrap the frame idea and go with something simple but I kinda like how the frame behaves.

I'm trying to figure out a way to put a "home" link on a page that uses frames but obviously it will only open in the page that the link is on, leaving the other parts of the frames still there...definitely not what I'm going for I'm pretty sure there has to be a way to do this...any help greatly appreciated the page in question
