  1. Hey folks, I have a friend that uses nero 7 premium to make dvds from .avi files...she's been using it without problems for quite a while but all of a sudden when she goes through setting up the dvd (adding the files>creating the menu and such) and starts the transcode/burn, the progress bar for "preparing to transcode" goes to 100% then the window disappears. no, it's not being minimized to tray...It's just not working. I've already suggested uninstalling/reinstalling to no avail and googled like crazy but can't seem to find an answer....anyone else have this problem or any good guesses on
  2. I get a little better than 2 hours out of my satellite when running windows and using toshiba's power management software (whatever the hell it's called - can't remember...that's how often I boot to windows )...I might squeak out 1.5 hours running Ubuntu but since I'm always plugged in, the issue is pretty much moot.
  3. With absolute prejudice.... del C:\WINDOWS\system32\mspaint.exe Not anymore!
  4. Hell, even easier than that would be Paint Ummm, no Paint is pathetic and by no means offers a way to resize images by right clicking them...lol
  5. irfanview is fine but even easier yet would be Image Resizer (MS powertoys - direct d/load link) will add r-click shell entries for resizing images....very simple and quicker than opening another program. Hope it helps.
  6. Sounds like a permissions problem....try here for the solution (microsoft kb)
  7. monkey....the weapon was the only thing I could think of when I saw "sai"...who'd have thought it was a south american monkey too...lol
  8. Adobe apparently mirrors for macromedia, I had no trouble downloading from this page
  9. creative... although I'm a little biased to the current banner since it's mine.
  10. Not sure if this is what you're looking for but it's the first hit on google and surprisingly free from MS. Virtual Desktop Manager google is your friend heh, Bubba Bob beat me...oh well.
  11. heh, pre-summer smells in my area are exquisite...a dumpster out behind my apartment building, a squashed skunk down the road flattened nicely by multiple cars and trucks, male cat pee since all of em' seem to wanna get their freak on this time of year.....ahhhh, the wonderful olfactory emanations.
  12. I think iccaros is on the mark for this one... I saw that you were still gonna be dealing with the intel 536ep dse- modem issue again and did some googling for its ease of getting it to actually function in Ubuntu...definitely not for someone new to *nix. See for yourself, and that's not a guarantee that it'll work if you follow the wiki and forum thread exactly.
  13. A guy is browsing in a pet shop and sees a parrot sitting on a little perch. It doesn't have any feet or legs. The guy says aloud, "Jeesh, I wonder what happened to this parrot?" The parrot says, "I was born this way. I'm a defective parrot." "Holy crap," the guy replies. "You actually understood and answered me!" "I got every word," says the parrot. "I happen to be a highly intelligent thoroughly educated bird." "Oh yeah?" the guy asks, "Then answer this -- how do you hang onto your perch without any feet?" "Well," the parrot says, "this is very embarrassing but since you asked, I wrap my wee
  14. Very good instructions shanenin! I had considered installing 2.0 beta just recently but blew it off (didn't seem that important and not really any mention of exciting new features) but said what the hell.... Your instructions are spot on and should return no errors. As far as how 2.0 runs/is/looks etc.....same old-same old with one very cool exception that'll make some users pretty happy. There's a "use status of last exit at startup" checkbox in the prefs, which enables users to sign on as invisible...I found that a minor annoyance and I guess it's somewhat of a gripe with most users.
  15. Took me a minute to place the...ahem...face...lol Monica Bellucci (Persephone, the Merovingian's wife in the matrix)
  16. Very cool Glad to help out and congrats for hangin' in there...welcome to linux.
  17. yep, sure enough...click on the view flicks tab and it's the first one (sorted by most popular) 5 stars with over 18000 votes...lol Kinda made me chuckle only because it reminded me of special ed from crank yankers. There's some pretty good vids there, you can definitely tell people put some time and effort into em'
  18. I don't know why I didn't notice this before but... <edit>hmmmm, typo on your part?...I checked the latest version of Mozilla and it's only at 1.7.12...maybe you meant 1.6?</edit>Is that the browser you're using to go to the chat rooms? If so, I'm kinda wondering why since Ubuntu installs Firefox...and that is clearly the better choice. And to add to that you can (or maybe did) install the latest version of firefox with all the plugins through automatix. Is the chatroom page giving you a clue as to what the missing plugin is? I was assuming it was yahoo chat you were trying to get
  19. Just to add, if "sudo apt-get install realplay" went well and installed without error, it should be in the menu (Applications -> Sound & Video -> RealPlayer 10) I usually don't use all-in-one installers but this would probably make your life a helluva lot easier and get what you need done as quick as possible. Automatix is an automated gui install script that takes care of alot of things to make Ubuntu more functional....pretty much just selecting with point and click from a list once installed...pretty sure it takes care of java (including plugins, hence the recommendation) as well
  20. OK, definitely see the problem now. step 1) open the sources.list again sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list Make the file read as follows (delete what's currently there and copy&paste, if you want): #deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 5.10 _Breezy Badger_ - Release i386 (20051012)]/ breezy main restricted ## Uncomment the following two lines to fetch updated software from the network deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy main restricted deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy main restricted ## Uncomment the following two lines to fetch major bug fix updates produced ## after the fi
  21. Something like this would be used but it's hardly ideal...seeing that it says 6Mbps transfer rate, an ethernet connection would be a helluva lot quicker...and something tells me that 6Mbps is one of those "you may get speeds up to 6Mbps" kind of things.
  22. Inspired by some of the wallpapers on one of the urls on Carnevil's pic, I came up with this...(slightly censored )
