Yeah, i'm pretty sure you'll be able to boot off an external HD....I remember someone asked that question on TSS once, and Patrick and Kevin said yes....sorry, but i don't remember the actual steps you need to follow, if there were any....

also....how hard would it be to load KDE up instead of Gnome? i'm kinda used to KDE, but the linux distros i've used so far only use KDE so i've had to deal with the problem....so, how would i go about solving this problem?

I agree. I look at it as a handoff: u either get an OS that is user-friendly and not so in-depth, or an OS that is incredibly powerful but not so user-friendly. Linux's indepthness is what made it what it is. This is why companies, schools, and even home-users use it, because it is much easier to use when dealing with such complicated things. Imagine programming code, with assembly code and High Level Languages (HLL). sure, assembly is simple, but nothing of great magnitude can be achieved using such a simple tool. yes, you need to buy a device called a KVM. You will have one mouse, one keyboard, and one monitor, and it will connect to the KVM. The KVM will connect to mulitple computers, and you can switch between computers with the switch of a button. Check online or at your local computer store.
