  3. Thank you very much, I finally realized my version of Ad-aware was out of date and i am scanning my computer with the new version as we speak. Thank you very much.
  4. Well, i want to compete in History Day, an event in which students all over America make projects and enter a contest to advance to the next stage, from city to state to national. My teacher requires us to make the project, but gives us the option of entering. With the topic, "Communications in History, i wrote a paper on computers, and i want to enter. Enclosed is my paper. Here's the problem: I'm way over the word limit. The limit is 2500. I'm not asking you to shorten it for me, just if anything is longer than it is supposed to, or is incorrect. Thanks in advance! 5. If anyone is interested in reading more strange facts, i have a nice website: Strange Facts
  6. Just to confirm a few things that Gwyrox and the others said: With knoppix (at least the one I downloaded from soundforge) comes many programs, among them OpenOffice, Mozilla, GAIM (multiple IM clients consolidated into one), QTparted (a partition manager), GIMP (image editor) and many more. I've heard this statement many times, and as i further explore the unix/linux world, i am more and more agreeing with it: For every windows programs, there is a linux counterpart. Just a few examples: MS Office:OpenOffice Trillian:GAIM Photoshop:GIMP Partition Magic:QTParted The list goes on and on.... I
  7. Well, this computer virtually nothing ontop of windows, only a few IM clients and a few other small programs. Because, before i stopped virtual memory and defragged the HD, windows partition showed up only as 3GB. But, after i followed through with your instructions it went up to 7GB. Perhaps i do need Gentoo or Slackware, but i'd rather keep that as a last resort. Any ideas?
  8. I did exactly what you said, but windows wouldn't let me resize it down to less than 7GB. I don't think anything went wrong during the procedure. Is there any info i can give you to help you figure the problem out?
  9. well, thank you, i finally got rid of MY google search bar....unfortunately, i can't stand google. Don't know why, just do....the funny thing is, i use gmail....
  10. or, maybe, find out the socket for the CPU, and get a cheap motherboard for it with onboard video from a reputable manufacturer.
  11. well, i did it, but when i opened up QTparted, my partition came out to be using 7GB out of the 10. I don't know what happened, but definately my windows files are less than 3GB. With only around 3 GB left, i don't really have enough room to make two partitions, so i can't install linux. Why did this happen? also, when i tried to revert back to the old way i had it (one huge windows partition) i couldn't do it. The option wasn't available to delete the one partition i had made, a partition in ext3. Now, my Windows partition is almost taken up, and my other partition cannot be used by windows.
  12. I'm sorry, i wasn't able to find the last file you told me to delete, C:\Download\FAH502-Console.exe, but i did successfully delete the others. here is my updated log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.0 Scan saved at 6:20:02 PM, on 1/23/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.e

  16. That doesn't really matter to me, i don't really like to use IE anyway...
  17. Well, i'm trying to install knoppix onto my computer to learn about the linux/unix world. However, I am using a Compaq computer, and the harddrive is completely formated into one partition. Since i need 1+ partitions to install knoppix, i thought i could resize the partition easily, partition the unpartition space, and continue with the installation. However, for some reason, the resizing of the current partition isn't working. I am using QTparted as the partition manager, and when i try to resize the partition from 10GB down to something around 2-3GB, it doesn't go any further. It only reduce
  18. Alright, thanks, that help me a lot. I can't wait to try out Longhorn!
  19. I have windows XP on one of my computers (a P3), and i want to install my knoppix and longhorn onto it. I was wondering if it was possible, because I don't really want to clutter my main computer with another OS, however if 3 OS's on one computer isn't possible, so be it. So, is it possible?
