  1. It should be noted that when flashing the Bios you should unplug any external hardware such as printers, scanners and etc. You may even be able to reflash the board but you will not be able to see it becuase of the video not working. You would listen to the motherboard beeps and watch the power activity light. With older motherboards that had ISA slots you could use an ISA graphics card which would still function after a bad flash.
  2. You can try removing the battery first to see if it will recover. If that doesn't work then try the Bios recovery jumper (not sure if you move or remove jumper). If that fails try the battery again after doing the jumper. It would help to know what the motherboard and/or make and model of the computer is.
  3. From the idiot formerly known as inuyasha(?)320. He actually gives a detailed account on how to fix some problems with the new driver. New nvidia drivers problems (warning to everyone on the forums! )
  4. Do the chkdsk routine I had you perform on yours. You will need to do it from the Recovery Console by booting with the XP cd.
  5. Sounds like that motherboard has some problems.
  6. Not only can the heatsink get clogged with dust and cause reboots and startup problems but the power supply can get plugged up with dust and burnout. I have replaced many HP/Compaq power supplies that have died anywhere from within 1-4 years. They are inadequate with stock parts let alone adding more power hungry hardware.
  7. Power supply may be dying. Also see how much dust is built up in the fans and heatsink then blow them out with a can of compressed air.
  8. I am still beat from Monday. As I drove to Rochester I ran into road work. They had a one lane five mile stretch with reduced 45 mph speed limit. I creeped four miles with no crew or equipment in sight. The last quarter mile had about six workers patching cracks with asphalt. About one thousand feet from my exit for the hospital there was a sign saying it was closed due to construction. I had to detour through the side streets of Rochester. What a bunch of fun that was will all the confused drivers that have never gotten lost on the crappy highways and streets of that city. I ended up being fi
  9. other than getting new memory, is there anyway to fix/help the problem? I doubt it. Many motherboards are fussy with memory brand and type. Here is the page regarding that motherboard. I ususally recommend Buffalo, Crucial, Corsair, Kingston, Mushkin or OCZ Technology which is at the top of the list for MSI. http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec....-L&class=mb
  10. If this is part of the problem in your other thread I am suspecting the motherboard, bad/corrupted Bios or bad/corrupted driver. Almost as perplexing as getting onto Elmwood Ave. from 104 West/590 South Monday morning.
  11. What is the motherboard? Have you ever flashed the Bios?
  12. The MSi mobo probanly doesn't like that crap brand memory. That is one area to never scrimp on.

  14. Maybe the next time I go to the store I'll buy one of those disposable digital cameras and have the pictures put on a CD.
  15. If I had a camera the lense would crack taking a picture of my setup. My computer area is one scary place to visit, but everything is in reach. There is a method to my mess and I know where any item is buried.
  16. The 3000+ would have a bit better performance at 333MHz than the 2000+.
  17. I could use another cup of coffee. The dog raised a ruckus all night and I got 2 hours sleep. Now I need to wake up for my yearly trip to my transplant clinic. Major front coming in with lots of rain from the south. Just what I need during the 2 hour drive with little sleep. What a weekend. Rap and hip hop music blaring all hours, drunk kids yelling and screaming up and down the streets, constant sirens and illegal fireworks going off, every night. I'm glad graduation is only once a year. I hated my Varilux lenses. I couldn't get used to them when on the computer. They really sucked when I sho
  18. If you were running XP Pro you could set a password protected screensaver that initiates upon wake up from hibernation.
  19. The only thing I can tell you is lock the computer up in a secure room. Me, I would shut the computer down when I was away and have a Bios password on it. If they are that desparate to remove the cover and pull the Cmos battery to bypass the password then I would be placing a severe beating on those individuals. People think twice once hospitalized.
  20. Try running chkdsk /p to see if there are any problems. If there are run chkdsk /r. Also take a look in your Event Viewer for any errors.
  21. Have you ever overclocked or overheated your processor? It may be dying.
  22. Check your Bios settings, especially FSB, for your processor. Sounds like they may be wrong.
  23. You can take a large brown paper shopping bag and pour melted butter in it. Rub the melted butter all over the inside of the bag to completely coat it. Put the turkey in and roll the bag opening closed. I like to place whole oranges poke with a fork inside the cavity. Place the turkey on a grill that is large enough to handle the turkey with the lid on. Make sure the coals are white with no open flames. Depending on size check it after a hour and a half with a meat thermometer. The turkey will self baste and be very juicy. Beer keg turkey is fantastic. First you need to buy a keg of beer, pref
