  1. It's just hitting 90 here with some nasty humidity. Not even a breeze stirring. I'm glad I mowed the lawn Thursday while it was still in the 70s.
  2. I need a glass of iced tea or lemonade and maybe some of that butter pecan ice cream. It is starting to get warm again. I hope you Michiganites can stall that 93+ degree temps from arriving here. My dog is usually driving me nuts to go outside, but today he is content in laying on the living room floor.
  3. Even though an anti-virus program updates automatically it is still recommended to perform a manual scan once a week. I got in the habit of defragging once a month because of using FAT 32. My 98SE setup sometimes benefits from this but the XP setup doesn't get fragmented as much.
  4. As CC stated you won't have a problem with static because the computer should be grounded through your power outlet. The only thing I would keep an eye on is dust buildup from your dirty carpet seeing as the side cover is off. Stay on top of cleaning the dust out.
  5. What programs are you scheduling and why? I don't allow automated tasks. I run my programs manually.
  6. The only daily maintenance I do at the end of the day is to Delete Private Data in my Opera browser, run CCleaner then AdAwareSE. Once a week I check for updates for AdAwareSE and Spyware Blaster then run my anti-virus (Panda Titanium 2006). Once a month I run chkdsk, Disk Cleanup and Defrag. I also check to see if there are any new problems with Windows Updates and if there are not any issues, download and install them every month. I do this on both my XP and 98SE hard drives. It doesn't take much of my time and my computer stays clean plus runs great.
  7. You can reinstall the OEM version on the same machine as long as you retain the original or exact same motherboard. You can reinstall the retail version on any computer. You cannot install any version on more than one computer at a time. If you make significant hardware changes you will be required to reactivate the OS.
  8. You would need a cross over cable. Networking Two PCs Via a Crossover Cable
  9. Slap a larger hard drive in it and you should be able to see a decent profit.
  10. Now that everyone knows where to get them this thread doesn't need to go any further. Lock time.
  11. The Vista Beta 2 DVD is only about $10.
  12. I have one of my burned up Slot A Athlon T-Birds as a keychain.
  13. you are saying my ME oem cd will not work with all ME oem COAs?
  14. Sounds like a rumor. Unless of course they have a deal w/ Microsoft where they install the same XP key on 2 billion computers, but pay for the license on each and put the sticker on it. Just a theory
  15. But it's Monday where he's at. hehehe
  16. That's what you should say anyways, just to save time. Especially if you change the motherboard! Exactly.
  17. You should be able to snag some deals easily if you just watch the bi-weekly sales. (such as: Corsair XMS 2x1GB is around $110 this week!) I can buy a 512MB stick of Kingston that matches what I have for $45. A hard drive is about $50. DVD drive $40. Video card another $45. After bills I'm lucky to have $25 leftover at the end of the month. I need to have some customers come in for PC work or pick up some construction side jobs. People are buying new cheap PCs instead of fixing their old ones and money is tight around here for new construction or remodeling.
  18. I have a few of them saved from other units that got stripped. I even had some that worked from old Socket 7 heatsinks.
  19. I'm running a 2400+ with 512MB of RAM. My video card is only a MX4000 plus both of my 20GB hard drives have OSes on them that I don't want to get rid of. I also don't have a DVD drive.
  20. It'll take me that long to upgrade my computer to run it unless I catch some real good sales..
  21. Vista is lacking in the driver support area so far. These companies have partnered with MS for anti-virus support on Vista. They are free for now. Windows Vista Beta 2 Antivirus Partners
  22. Asus may replace it for free, but I would buy one with ball bearings instead of those crappy sleeved bearing jobs.
