  1. Mike is opting for an aggressive form of treatment to control his MS. Here is the link to give him some support. http://forums.g4tv.com/messageview.cfm?cat...threadid=599982
  2. After adding XP to my computer I have found several quirks, but searching through Microsoft I was able to find solutions. I didn't think I would like switching from 98SE, but that is no longer true.
  3. I had my northbridge fan fail. I removed it and placed an 80mm fan in the side opening of my case pointed at the northbridge. I also have a 120mm fan placed in the side opening of my case blowing on the cards (video & Ethernet). I have replaced 3 fans on my CPU's heatsink. I finally bought a deep 60mm with ball bearings. It works much better and is quieter.
  4. If the program is not releasing itself from memory on shutdown try installing User Profile Hive Cleanup Service. This worked for me when Panda anti-virus's protection still ran at shutdown.
  5. I think the fan is on it's way out and you need to clean the heatsink and processor then reapply thermal paste correctly. My 2400+ doesn't go beyond 44-46C when filled with dust. It idles at 39C when warmed up. The hottest it ever ran was 50C when the house temperature was above 90F and the heatsink was filled with dust and cigarette smoke.

  7. Clean the damn dust out of that computer and quit thinking that Peer Guardian will protect you, get rid of it.

  9. I have been running my PC with the side cover, back cover and front panel off for 4 years. I have a 120mm and a 80mm fan hanging off bungee cords stretched along the open side. The 120mm fan is set to the lower left and blows cold air at the cards. The 80mm is situated near the middle and aimed to the lower right of the CPU and directly at the north bridge. It does get dusty but I blow it out with compressed air every couple of months. My AMD 2400+ stays at a steady 39C after warming up. I have had indoors temperatures of 90F plus. The most my CPU jumped to was 45C which was due to dust and re
  10. Pass the Tylenol. The foolish city set up the launch site for last night's fireworks in the football practice field across the street from me. I didn't even notice them setting up the last couple of days due to all the trees blocking the view. I was laying on the couch watching TV and half snoozing listening to the dog snore when the freaking house started to shake from these enormous booms. The dog jumped up and went ballistic. I would feel and hear the thuds and then a few minutes later hear the fireworks explode over the lake. Damn some of them were strong enough to rock the lamp on top of
  11. Maybe that was just the shedded skin of some critter. Keep an eye out for the live version. hehe
  12. Set one drive as Master and the other Slave. When you wish to change drives boot into your Bios and change which hard drive is to boot first.
  13. Mac I can feel your pain dealing with the loss of Ashley. I lost my S.O. 17 years ago when she committed suicide. For several years I walked around with a dead heart. The anguish I felt was unbearable and it seemed as though only the drugs and booze kept me alive. I too had many friends from school who had married or hooked up and never came around anymore. I had a few failed relationships and pretty much stayed a loner. My work and partying was the only thing I would concentrate on. With Rene I felt alive, but we had our problems. When she became depressed over the loss of two brothers and a
  14. What a bunch of crap. I see just as many Fireflop users posting HJT logs as IE users.
  15. More like stick my speakers in the windows and crank up some Ozzy or Zep.
  16. All these disappearing acts. Hope the build goes well. Good seeing Makai and tenmm back. Now if we only could locate il_wiccan.
  17. I'm plan on just messing around with the yard and work on the house. I turned one of my spare rooms into an exercise room. I bought a used DP exercise bike and weight set so I could recoup some muscles. I have almost bottomed out with my weight loss and now need to build the muscles back up to take off the rest of the flab. I didn't realize how much loose skin there would be after losing 160 lbs. I still need to drop another 20 lbs. I had lost 210 lbs. after the transplant but the Prednisone added 110 lbs. back. The doctors figured I lost about 60-70% of my muscle mass during my illness. They

  19. As long as the hard drives were properly set up as Master and Slave that shouldn't cause any problems. You don't have any errors in Device Manager? The only other thing might be the power supply is too weak to run with 2 hard drives. As for manufacturer diagnostic software you will need to know what make the hard drive is. I can't remember what Dell throws in their PCs.
  20. How do you connect? Cable modem to PC (USB or Ethernet) or Cable modem to router to PC?
  21. Print Screen should work. You will need to open an image editor after (such as Paint) and clcik on Edit at the top then Paste.
  22. This is my boot.ini. I use the whole drive. If your drive has 2 partitions I see no problem with your boot.ini. [boot loader] timeout=10 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /safeboot:minimal Have you ran the diagnostic software from your hard drive manufacturer? While you're at it run Memtest. That error could be due to a failing hard drive, bad memory stick or motherboard problem.
