I unplug my computer, monitor and modem if there is a chance of a storm and I'm leaving the house. If I'm on the computer I shut down and unplug everything at the first sound of thunder. I do this even though I have a decent UPS. I never cared for those so called surge protectors. I've worked on many computers that have been fried that were plugged into them. My UPS was purchased for one reason and that is due to the many power surges in my area due to sudden summer and nasty winter storms.

Hell, I'm still running Win98SE. I won't even upgrade to XP until SP3 comes out and others test it. Once I see SP3 as stable then it will be time. I don't see any vistas in my future for quite some time.

The Win98/ME host file belongs in C:\Windows. Did you by chance use the host.sam file? This file is a sample not the actual host file that has to be created. The easiest way to create the host file is to open HijackThis and click on the Open the Misc Tools section button, then Open hosts file manager. If I remeber right you now click the Open in Notepad button and it should ask if you wish to create it. It is in this file that you place the sites you wish to block. Remember to leave a couple of spaces between the 127.0.0.1 and the URL or IP of the site you want blocked.
