  1. Does it show as dual monitors in the ati control panel or when you right click on desktop and choose properties => settings? If so set one as primary and the other as an extension of desktop not as mirror. Then you set the applications you want displayed on the secondary to open in the extended desktop. Problem is that while many applicaitons such as IE will allow you to drag a window from one desktop to another, most full screen apps will only display on the primary (or a mirrored display) not on an extended desktop.
  2. Uninstall MyWebSearch , MyWay MySearch using add/ remove programs and then have a malware expert tell you how to remove any leftovers with Hijackthis.
  3. I agree, it sounds like a weak cmos battery on the motherboard and the BIOS forgetting what hard drive you have. Unplug and open the case, locate the shiney coinlike thing and look for the number (probably 2032 or 2974) then go to the store (walmart, grocery store, home depot, radio shack ....) and buy a replacement for a couple bucks. Come home , pop out old battery , pop in new one. Close case , power up and boot to bios, autodetect the drive , save settings and exit. Other thing that can cause this would be a weak power supply . Emachines are noted for shoddy power supplies which fail and
  4. Yeah, I love it when someone makes a mistake and orders more than they can possibly sell at normal prices so they have a "managers special". Not very efficient on their part; but great for me. Did my grill pan to oven technique . Set the probe to 135 and waited for the alarm. Tookit out and let it rest and watched the temp continue to rise until it peaked at 140. Came out a perfect medium, melt in your mouth tender. Might go for five degrees cooler next time around, but the OL gets upset if the steak is too rare.
  5. Well, I was going to make some Fillet of Sole tonite (Chinese farm raised, not Dover) but I had an urge to stop by a specific store and they had over ordered chicken breast and petite sirloin steaks and were having a managers special 59 cents a pound for chicken breasts 99 Cents a pound for the boneless skinnless , $1.19 a pound for the Steak (Nice thick ones at that) so I bought ten pounds of each. Spent some time bagging , wrapping in freezer paper and stowing away. The freezer is packed. Steak and taters for dinner tonite; got some split breasts marinating in Rasberry Chipotle barbequ

  7. Have you tried removing the battery and using just the adapter? The problem is that these days with high power batteries often manufacturers skimp on the power brick , and it needs the battery to provide enough power to boot up. So it may not boot without the battery. But as shanenin said, you need to confirm that your power brick is working. It could actually be the power brick failed and the battery went dead because of that. Once you determine which is the problem you buy a replacement if it is not covered under warranty.
  8. Well, I prefer Opera for sites where there are big images. It just does great fast loading of pictures and media files (Although some sites have issues with opera so when you hit one of them you have to change for compatability). The built in torrent downloader, while not as fast as a dedicated torrent downloader is useful for smaller downloads when you want to use a torrent to take the load of the authors server. Used to like azureus for that, but they changed to a bloated app VUZE so I prefer ABC (another bittorrent client) http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/download.php I like FF for sit
  9. Yes, but there are still some compatability issues with some add ons and some sites and activities. Those who want to use something which is not compatible with FF3, should stick with FF2 until the needed update comes out.
  10. It sounds like you have a version where it requires you to uninstall using the install cd. This is part of the product activation , or whatever they want to call their controls to prevent people from installing and then selling the cd and product key. You pop in the original installation cd and it will detect the installed version and ask you what you want to do; add a component repair your current installation Remove or uninstall the current installation. Just follow the prompts. Or in some cases you have to actually begin the installation and then it detects the installed version and tells
  11. http://www.smartcomputing.com/techsupport/...p;ErrorID=21330 Yep, I second that opinion. Try with just one stick of RAM and if the problem continues, try the other. Often windows can run with RAM mismatches which will prevent it from installing so you may be able to add the other stick back once you complete the install. Of course it could be the reason you are doing the reinstall in the first place.
  12. Well hang in there. Have you installed your video card drivers yet? Can you change your screen resolution by right click desktop => properties => settings => screen resolution?
  13. Power outage here last night too. Just after sunset showers a hundred miles south of here caused a "gust front" to form and we had sudden fifty MPH wind and a twenty degree temp drop. Not going to complain about the cooldown (it did not last) but the wind knocked out power on the block for an hour. If it hadn't been for the cooldown it would have been miserable. As is all the neighborhood came out and strolled from house to house chatting for an hour till they got power back on. Edit, the paper actually had an editorial about our power outage. Turns out that the transformer was overloaded.
  14. Yeah, I really was hoping to get some more posts, it seems kind of one sided. I went for the easy dinner tonite, bowties with sliced kielbasa and broccoli with minced garlic , lemon juice and olive oil. Really rather tasty At first, when I looked at that cookbook (101 Airborne cheese soup) I thought it was a gag. Then I saw it had real recipes. I know the OL will want me to try the Benihanas recipes She will probably insist I send it to her mother too, so they can talk for hours on the phone about it.
  15. It is now 107 with a heat index of 115 , and we have a red level ozone alert. This morning when they announced the heat warning and Ozone alert they said "It will be unhealthy to be outside between 10AM and 10PM today. " Okay, I agree, that sounds unhealthy to me. Tomorrow is expected to be more of the same. We have warm water but not in the nineties, they pipe it underground and that cools it from the temp of the lakes (reservoirs), but still this time of year it gets hot enough in the lakes for the algae to bloom and make unfiltered water taste positively foul. Still, I set the temp on the
  16. I have to say that the Stove Top Enchiladas (Skillet Enchiladas) is a definite hit. Since I mastered it, the OL asks several times a week if I can whip out a batch (generally cheese and onion with red sauce). With all the ingredients pre prepped, it takes only a few minutes to turn out two plates (three enchiladas each) least if I use the big stainless steel griddle in the middle of the stove, but a 12 inch nonstick frypan works fine. The hardest part is mastering rolling them up , you need a long (at least six inch) flipper like you use for fish; at least I do. You will probably crack and s
  17. The premium is $4.04 here 3.64, 3.84, 4.04 Saw a bunch of stations these days at that price.
  18. Woke up this morning and the lawn and porch were all wet, must have been a popup shower last night. Just enough to make sure that it was oppressively hot today , 102 with heat index of 110. Looks like we are on our way to a "near" record run of 100 plus degree days as well as a higher than normal yearly count. That is what happens when we have a dry spring.
  19. I once had a Mercury Comet (Think it was a 72, but not sure) basically same as maverick but a bit fancier. Three on the floor , 351 engine, big fat tires (it was stolen for the aluminum rims). If I recall, it had some fine heavy duty screening under those cowling grills, and a cleanout down below to allow you to flush it out. The AC used the same drain/ cleanout for the condensate and it used to clog with algae every summer. Same deal on 77 F150 (400 McClellan engine) (the floor rotted out on the guy who bought it, he put a foot through the passenger floorboard ). Now you want something real
  20. Originally most of the add ons / extensions had to be disabled as they were not FF3 compatible; but now that it is a month old that is not an issue. What do you mean chuck? Was it an extension you had added? If so , check and see if it is disabled and if they have an update available for it.
  21. Have you tried the K-Lite Codec pack? http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm
  22. It would help to get rid of the ethanol mandates the Bush Administration invoked. Short of that, yes it would help food prices if the feds did not pay subsidies (what is it $1 a gallon to oil companies which blend ethanol in their gas?) for using feed corn , and instead subsidised efforts to generate cellulosic ethanol and dropped the import levies against Brazillian Ethanol from sugar cane. Here the paper listed the low price (two stations, Costco and Seven Eleven) at $3.64 per gallon. I saw it a couple days ago at $3.82 . In fact http://www.dallasgasprices.com/ lists a whole page in the $3.6
  23. Ah, so two computers on the same network have the same issue? In this case I would suspect that it is either the router, modem , or connection. Have you tried turning off and unplugging and disconnecting the modem and router; waiting five minutes and plug em back in (in the order suggested when you first set up , generally plug in(and power on) modem, connect it to router, plug in router( and turn it on) , connect modem to phone/cable line , connect router to PCs and restart pcs . Is this a wireless network? If so do you have speed boost enabled? Basically , in oversimplified terms speedboo
  24. Have you installed the correct updated drivers for your hardware or are you using the generic drivers which came with this "stripped" version of Vista? If the problem was present before the format and install, and you have other computers using the same internet connection which do not have a problem; then it sounds like you have a bad ethernet cable or bad ethernet card. I would try a USB ethernet adapter or new PCI ethernet card and see if it solves the issue.
