  1. As Shanenin said, they did not intend the program to crash, there is a bug. It may be a minor mistake in the code; somewhere someone forgot a , or put a ; where a : should be or got one letter wrong in typing and everyone else missed it. It could be that it specifies a memory address which is in use by something else or which is not allowed; or that it calls for a file which does not exist or tries to do something like divide by zero. Sometimes there is an upgrade or patch available to fix a known issue; sometimes uninstalling and reinstalling the program solves things (if by accident somethin
  2. Yep, the OL said it was not sweet enough, but toasted with some butter, cinnamon and sugar spread on it it was fantastic with morning coffee.
  3. Yep, being Bipolar she went into a deep depression and when I got out I found out she had stopped doing dishes and laundry and hadn't once put the trash out ; had taken in two homeless people ( a young couple she pregnant and both jobless and they did not do dishes, laundry, or put out trash either). My dog (who saved my life by biting the gunman on the leg till he bled worse than I did) also thought I was dead and when he recognized me he flopped around on the ground like he was having a fit and pissed all over himself. I think that because I was only wearing underwear when I was shot (hey i

  5. I voted, but I did the "early voting" thing to avoid long lines. We went last week about 9AM and the line was basically non existant. They had the new electronic voting machines and WOW what a difference. First they scan the UPC on your voters card (or if you do not have one , your drivers license or ID will do to bring up your voters registration ) and print out a sheet with a code on it; which identifies which ballot should be displayed based on your precinct number etc. You sign the sheet that you are accepting that the number matches your card and you will be voting. Next an election offi

    Bet On Obama

Just before the election the Vegas Odds makers were rating him at -800, IE if you bet 800 payback would be one dollar. On the other hand, they put McCain at +600 meaning if you bet one dollar you would get 600 Wonder what odds they had that they can't make the payoff.

These days, with Microsoft pushing automatic updates for critical and security holes; increasingly malware is targeting exploits in software as opposed to the operating system. Holes in Java, Flash, Winzip, Firefox, Opera and other common applications now are exploited more commonly that those in Windows itself in new emerging versions of malware. For this reason it is important to keep up to date. Check sites like calendar of updates regularly http://www.calendarofupdates.com/updates/i...hp?act=calendar And check for holes in what you have installed at Secunia http://secunia.com/vulnerabilit
  8. Well I have tried seveal others. Pumpkin bread with canned pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spices. Turned out excellent , especially toasted and topped with a little butter and sugar with my coffee in the morning. Sourdough using buttermilk for the liquid. Today I am back to making Onion bread, with extra fried onions and buttermilk for the sourdough flavor. Should be done in a half hour and it is a real beauty.
  9. Well, who ever accused a crook of caring about the damage they cause. The car window they bash out to grab a couple cds costs several hundred dollars to fix. The door they kick in to burglarize your house likewise probably costs more to repair or replace than what they get for the stuff they steal. Then you have to replace it. When some crooks broke into the toolbox on my truck I figure it cost me between $300 and $500 to fix the damage and replace the lost tools. They probaby got $25 for them at the pawn shop. When I got shot in the home invasion robbery, it cost several hundred thousand dol
  10. Yeah, here in Dallas; after the news stations began urging everyone to get locking gas caps (as if it required urging) in response to an increase in siphonings when prices first rose; the crooks have taken to punching a hole in your gas tank and letting it drain out into whatever they are using to get what they can. Then they let the rest just pour out on the ground so you have a fire hazard, and an empty tank with a hole in it which has to be replaced.
  11. I thought it was going to be a BestTechie anniversary and was trying to calculate how long ago 2000 days was. Got the grandkids over for the weekend. The OL is making pancakes (with chocolate chips) bacon and eggs for breakfast; and I am going to fire up the grill and make burgers for lunch.
  12. Can you boot to the bios? Normally after the POST beep it says something like "Press Del to enter setup" may be F1, alt tab etc. Do you have any bootable CDs? Or can you obtain one (download and burn to CDR something like Knoppix or Ultimate Boot CD, even an antivirus CD will do) This will help confirm that the computer itself is working ,just that windows is having issues. Do you have your windows Product key? (should be on the case or in the documentation accompanying the CD you lost) Does it freeze after the BIOS splash or does it start to load windows and then freeze?
  13. The key is the use of the word Presumed The presumption that the act is justified under the law pretty much removes the chance of getting a conviction even if they are charged.
  14. One case http://www.the33tv.com/pages/content_landi...&feedID=460 >Police say the thieves hit the station when it was closed for the night by getting access to a pump using a keypad device. Authorities say the device allowed the suspects to deactivate the pump then put it out of service. They say once the gas started flowing, the thieves called people to come fill up while they collected the cash. Colleyville Police Officer, Bill Hudgins says, "they would come pay him the 20 dollars and he would tell them where to go to get a full tank of gas". Another http://www.abovetopsecret.com/foru
  15. Spammers harvest email addresses from all over. Generally they start by buying a mailing list from some site where you registered , or they use harvesters which crawl the web like google's bots searching for email addresses. Once they have email addresses they generally test and confirm them by sending out some spam with hidden invisible gif files with unique identifier numbers (web bugs). When you open the spam email, even if you do not see any images, a call has been placed to a server asking for that gif. By cross referencing the logs at the server they can tell which email addresses opene
  16. I like using speeddefrag http://www.snapfiles.com/get/speedefrag.html SpeeDefrag is a simple program, that restarts your computer and runs defrag.exe with optimized windows settings before loading your desktop, which allows for faster and more thorough defragmentation. Once the defrag process has finished, it can optionally shut down your PC, otherwise reboot it. It is free and will generally defrag the components which are missed during a normal defrag. It uses your existing windows defrag, so there are no conflicts or problems. It just allows scheduling and configuration not normally presen
  17. They caught a guy yesterday. Somehow he hacked gas pumps to move the decimal or show "out of service" and then contacted friends who showed up and filled up. In exchange for the notification they paid him a fee. He also was doing this after hours at closed stations and charging folks half price or less . He said he had been doing it since 2001 and hadn't paid (full price) for gas in almost eight years. May be more common than we thought http://www.google.com/search?sa=N&tab=...s%20pump%20hack They said the guy had sold over 500 gallons of gas at the station when they caught him, and ha
  18. Yes, I had been thinking that. I may run out there tomorrow and buy a second if they still have any left. My thought was that the solids would mean there was less water in the juice than in a corresponding volume of water. Maybe I overestimated the amount of solids in V8 juice. I love to cook with V8 juice; I use it in soups as a "vegetable stock" as well as using it to simmer things like sweet potatoes and regular ones for that matter. Then use the leftover liquid to make "red gravy" . Red gravy on meatloaf and mashed potatoes is just to good.

  20. Today I made Sundried Tomato bread with garlic, rosemary(fresh) , and basil. I used V8 juice instead of water, I upped it to a cup from 3/4 and that was a bit of a mistake as it came out heavy and a bit to moist. But otherwise it is delicious.

    Eyesight

Gotta buy the OL a new pair soon. She tripped and scratched one pair of bifocals. The EyeMasters where we bought the pair (buy one get one free) said they could not fix them but could replace the lenses for , yes the same price we had originally paid for two pair. I was thinking of trying a place called Optical Factory which advertises locally but I think I may give zenni a shot.
  22. Did a google http://www.google.com/search?gbv=2&hl=...amp;btnG=Search and it looks like it has happened fairly frequently. Seems that it is fairly easy when punching in the price to have the decimal point jump.
  23. Routine means that it happens so frequently in Dallas (probably at least once a month) that they refer it to the DA and Grand Jury for Review so that the Media does not jump all over them claiming that the decision to not prosecute was racially motivated, or community outcry over the shooting. We had one last year (in the suburbs ) where a couple teens cut across a neighbors fenced yard to get to a party they heard music from (at least that was their story) . The old guy saw two kids in the middle of the night just outside his window. He had had a yard sale and had stuff on his porch and tho
