Help,,help,,help,, Yep Its Ne Again Missy
Pete_C replied to missy51633's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Hi missy. First I see Antonio (Pro driver) posting on G4 Tech support, and then find you here. Good to run into old friends after such a time. First , what do you mean by "Reboot". Do you mean you just shut down and restarted your computer? Or do you mean you reinstalled windows? If you reinstalled windows, then chances are you need to reinstall your video card drivers. Do you know what video card you have? Nvidia or ATI? If not , we can use Everest Home edition to figure it out. If you justshut down and restarted and suddenly things are the wrong size and won't change, then it probably mea -
I think this is the third day in a row that it will hit 105; and it looks like it will be above 100 every day for the next week at least. Already have twice the "normal" number of triple digit days for the month and year; looks like a hot one like 1980. I dread the electric bills we will have. At least it is "dry heat" (the heat index was 102 when the temp was 105) , not that that really matters when it feels like you are in an oven and to stay hydrated you have to drink constantly . Of course it could be worse, it hit 110 in Witchita Falls Texas and that area. Side note; on the news they s

That's what happened to me. After my hospital stay for my legs, I assumed it was all gone. It went all the way into my lungs. Which are crap anyways, from all the years of smoking. Almost didn't make it Not sure if it is the hot dry weather of because earlier this spring I mixed up some BT (Bacillus Thurengensis) with Ortho concentrate (and a couple tablespoons of soap concentrate too) and used my Pressure washer to spray the trees and yards and walls of the house down; but the mosquitos and fleas are basically non existant and there have not been any more webworms in my trees. Haven't had t

Sounds like the Mosquito was carrying an infectious disease, you know they carry a lot of things, Malaria, Dengue Fever, Yellow Fever........ At a minimum cellulitis of the arm http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/im...llsize/8743.jpg Also, while many become less sensitive the more often they get bitten; others develope hypersensitive allergic reactions http://www.drgreene.com/21_60.html

I made smoked veggies yesterday, but the OL insisted on boiling the chicken in Kraft Barbeque sauce instead of grilling it (got boneless skinless thighs and breasts too, what a waste).
-
Hmm, no one else seems to be doing much cooking. Even though it is 104 out today, I got out the grill and made grill roasted smoked vegetables for Pasta Salad. The OL wants to go to the kids tomorrow, and bring dinner (barbeque chicken and pasta salad). I started out by taking my 9 x 13 roasting pan and covering the bottom with a liberal layer of Hickory chips. I covered that with a layer of aluminum foil and put my vegetable grid on top of the pan. Heated it up on high on the gas grill until it began to smoke. I prepped the vegetables by giving them a quick soak in 1% milk with seasoning

My Computer Is Screwed (slow And Unresponsive)
Pete_C replied to REMIX_23's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Some antivirus etc, when disabled leave the permissions on registry keys and system files and folders "locked" so you get an access denied error when you try to install SP3. If you have one of these antivirus applications, then you have to install SP3, with it on and pay careful attention since it will briefly pop up a window asking if you want to allow the change. If you do nothing the antivirus will block it and you get the access denied error. I know bit defender does it from personal experience. Likewise, other registry protection schemes can cause this. -
1. Modern Power supplies are what is called switching power supplies. They are in fact always energized when plugged in but only switch power to the rails when two specific wires on the motherboard connector are shorted by the momentary interrupt switch on the front. You can buy a cheap power supply tester (recommended if you are getting into the field) for about ten bucks, or you can short the wires with a paper clip and it will start the power supply. 2. There are many sites online which guide you through building our own PC; this is a good place to start learining things; but more import

A form of Musical Chairs? When the storms cease, everybody stay put! I hadn't thought of it that way; that they are coordinating and just shifting resources in the direction of problems so that they do not have to have crews travel 1500 miles from where they are free to where they are needed, they can just shift a bunch of crews 150 miles each and get the same result. Overall, I am pleased with my service. Ever since they got the new smart meters which use internet over power line to communicate with the electric company headquarters they have had amazing response for any outage (compa
-
Here it is all done by sub contractors too; in fact even putting in poles and running new lines tends to be contracted out; just the emergency response is "in house". I can see the logic , why keep a bunch of specialized trucks, cutting equipment etc that they will only need half the time? Better to hire a contractor who has so much of the equipment themselves and specializes in it that they can do the job in half the time and spend the rest of the time working for someone else. Of course we are in the city; in rural areas it is harder to justify constant pruning since an outage affects fewer

Alcohol's ALWAYS a welcome suggestion. Well, yes; but I was not suggesting it for that reason. The elderberry promotes respiratory health in many ways; it is good at easing congestion and clearing the lungs. Another item I should have brought up is Naringinin Ever wonder why Dr Linus Paulings studies indicating Vitamin C could cure the common cold and stop many other viruses in their tracks was not duplicable by most researchers? Well it is probably since he used natural vitamin C from Citrus while others use Ascobic Acid vitamin C produced synthetically from Corn or vitamin C from R

Definitely keep on the mask and don't forget to blow the spores etc off your clothes with a compressor or even a leaf blower before you take it off. (Of course in this heat, hell just douse yourself with a hose or jump in the nearest water). Have you tried Sambucus (Elderberry extract) for the chest ? SwansonVitamins Sambucus Elderberry products I'd suggest this If it is okay with your MD. The name brand sambucol notes that Sambucol Original Syrup is a powerful natural upper respiratory health supplement. Developed by world renowned virologist Madeleine Mumcuoglu, Ph.D., Sambucol is the uniq

Hurricane in the gulf might give us a day or two of lower temps; but at what cost? The speculators will probably drive up the cost of Oil and Gas with fears that it could cause a shortage because they evacuated some rigs in the gulf.

I saw a roadside thermometer here today which read 104F, the one in the car said it was only 102. Here folks die in the summer when the power is out . In fact on days like this they ask you to check on elderly neighbors who may have turned off their A/C to save money. Here the big problem is not so much the electric company failing to maintain lines as the people who let trees grow to near power lines and rabid attorneys who seek to keep the electric company from "butchering" the trees to keep them from endangering the electric lines. My theory is if you do not keep it cut back far enough you

I think technically they are called split ductless HVAC units http://www.mrslim.com/Products/Category.as...ctCategoryID=24 http://www.acdirect.com/xcart/product.php?productid=2363 They actually have two and three zone units where you can have one outdoor unit and several indoor ones http://www.acdirect.com/ductless_cooling_heating_.php http://www.globalindustrial.com/gcs/produc...oning-google_pr Lists some specs on one model 7.2 Amps for 9000 BTU 13 SEER And that is the 115 VAC model. http://www.acsuperstore.com/Merchant2/merc...mp;Store_Code=1 Is a 14.1 SEER model 9000 BTU Even LG offers a

I think what you have sounds worse than what is bugging me. At least I feel pretty decent half the time; although just now I have a fever, headache, neckache, and my eyes hurt. The coughing stuff up is only for an hour or so after I wake in the morning until the mucinex and sudafed take effect.
-
Well that makes the 100 degree stretch we are in seem bearable. Actually after dark it is pretty nice on the porch if there is a breeze; and in the mornings it is tolerable; but after mid day , even the dogs do not want to go out for any length of time. We have to fire up the third AC (Yes, I use window units not central, prefer to just cool what I want not the whole house) to keep things down below 78 ( with the third unit the whole house drops down quickly even in this heat). Next round I will probably buy those new Mitsubishi hybrid units, where you have a wall mount unit similar to a win

I have a request: Could you PLEASE not sit so close to your monitor? I'm catching what you got. <sniffle> Ah, a highly infectious computer virus? Could it be some kind of Industrial Disease?

Sorry, I meant breaded (and baked) or grilled. We wound up dredging it in corn flour and deep frying it. Served with Marie's Ranch Salad Dressing for dipping. Truly delicious. I may have to buy some more to try out several different ways, as haddock seems very much like cod in texture and flavor so I think it would go great in chowder, with a mushroom cream sauce, grilled with lemon etc. Cooked (dried) soybeans for the first time, after the overnight soak, cooked them in Ham Stock which I had put up for just such a use, with shredded carrots, diced onion and garlic, and tomato paste. They

I wish they gave us that option Here even the big boys all have the "Contains 10% Ethanol" sticker on the pumps. I found one station which still sold the good stuff, but after a couple months even they succumbed. I got 20% better mileage with real gas compared to E10.

Well, if hovering over it does not identify it, maybe the process list from a hijackthis log would clarify what is running .

My bet is that there is a specific file , probably one not in a sub folder in the My Documents folder which is responsible (or maybe a shortcut) Possibly the path or file name gives problems, possibly the attempt to generate previews of a large file ( such as a video) is the cause (IE with my documents on one drive and swap file on another it may have issues moving them back and forth). Also, there are some folders in My Documents which are created by other applications . While windows may not have an issue with your changing the location of the My Documents folder to another drive, sometimes

It is always best to take advantage of those who studied and learned malware removal in cases like this. It is dangerous trying to remove trojans by yourself; it is best to get some help. You should go to the malware board and post a hijackthis log for assistance since there are many places where malware can hook itself to the windows gui and shell. This is quite a common effect when the file in question is removed before the entry loading it has been removed and the correct one restored. In fact, many malware infections are specifically written to produce just this result if automated remov

Here two cents on every dollar sales tax goes to public transport; but with the economy going down the toilet fast retail sales are decreasing and so is tax revenue. So they have to think fast to come up with new sources of income to cover operating expenses and debt (bonds) payments. They already doubled the fares recently, but fares cover a minimal part of the cost of operations and if they made them cover it all it would still be much cheaper to make car payments, insurance payments and buy premium gas than to ride the bus and train.

New weekend coming up, feeling under the weather but hey feed a fever ? There is a new Sprouts opening up the road , so they have some good grand opening specials. Large ez peel shrimp $3.99 a pound. So I may have to make some of them up. Maybe grilled, chilled and served with a lime and red onion salsa. Halibut for $1.99 a pound. Can't beat that with a stick. The OL wants to batter and fry it, I prefer the option of breading and grilling. Or planked, or in cream sauce with mushrooms. Maybe even a chowder.
