Did you check Kellys Korner (Kelly Theriot) or Doug Knox for a vista taskbar repair? http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm This application allows you to Repair and Customize the Quick Launch, Taskbar and Notification Area in Windows XP. These are the options available via this tool. Note: The clickable listings are for the individual downloads in lieu of. Gotta look to see if there is one for vista, because reportedly this is only for XP http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/index.html Ah, yes the new version is tested for vista http://www.ntcompatible.com/Taskbar_Repair...lus_c13278.

You can lead a horse to water but you should not feed a troll. Some people just do not listen or read or pay attention and just want to argue.

In Bridge mode, this device is acting as a switch and modem; not a router. http://www.smartbridges.com/education/print-ready.asp?id=325 You would use it in bridge mode if you had another router which was handling your network. http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=562 >2-IN-1 DEVICE The D-Link ADSL2/2+ Modem with 4-Port Ethernet Router (DSL-2540B) is a 2-in-1 device that combines the function of a DSL modem and 4-port 10/100 Ethernet router. The DSL-2540B supports the latest ADSL2/2+ standards to provide higher performance (up to 24Mbps* downstream and 3.5Mbps* upstream) and longer reach from

If the computer will not boot to windows, how do you suggest she run the script?
-
No, in fact all you have to do is start tapping F8 once a second after you hear the POST beep until you get the enhanced startup options menu. If it has not been disabled, the last option will be "Disable restart on system failure" Just select that and hit enter and windows will change the registry for you.

Not even going to go there. First even a geek techie knows better than to mess around in the registry when there are perfectly good applications and built in windows settings to make the changes with safely. It is unwise to mess with things you really do not understand; and since I respect JCLs understanding of such things; I doubt that you truely understand what you are talking about here. You have found a bunch of "scripts and hacks" on the net and think you are smart by posting them here to those who have been there done that and know the risks.

Calling it a memory leak was a misnomer; but it was often the easiest way to get beginners to visualize the potential of creating a problem. Why you should not use MSCONFIG to control startup entries in XP http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=149804 If you have been using MSConfig as a startup manager please read this. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310560 The first method you should always try is to see if the application itself has an entry under edit / preferences or tools / options or a similar location to control its startup behaviour. The software author knows his product bett

I think you could probably do it by having Xp installed and configured on one hard drive along with your imaging software. Then you remove that drive, and put in a new one and begin the windows install using the slipstreamed version with all upadates and drivers included. When it goes for the reboot , you hold the power button and shut down. Change that drives jumper to slave, and put the original drive back in. Then you can image the install which is ready to reboot and do hardware configuration. But then again, microsoft makes a toolkit for developers which allows you to customize the window

Use safe mode with networking and post your hijackthis log on the malware board. It sounds like you have a trojan fake alert / antivirus 2009 or similar infection. It is well known for causing this sort of problem.

Generally when you use the term image you are referring to something like Norton Ghost or Acronis true image to refer to an image file created from a stable installation so that you can reinstall it easily on the same machine. If you attempt to install it on a different machine you run into several issues. 1 is windows activation which relies on a hardware inventory; but you could do an image of a non activated windows . 2. Windows itself relies on a hardware abstraction layer , so that if you were to put it on a different machine , the HAL would not match the existing hardware and you woul

Not sure who helped you or how they removed Antivirus 2009, but I have seen at least one infection where it left behind some files (scr and bmp primarily) after it was removed which still had to be cleaned up. You may want to have the malware team examine a combofix log to see if they can find any files or registry changes from the same timeframe as the infecton.

go to control panel => system => advanced => startup and recovery => settings Uncheck "restart on system failure" Check "Send admin alert" Check "create a log file" This way you will get the full stop error and it will wait for you to write it down and restart the computer rather than flashing the BSOD and rebooting. IT will also make a log file which can be checked to find the cause of the BSOD Copy down the whole stop error , along with the four parameters and any file referenced. This way we can look it up and tell you what is causing it and how to fix it. Generally it is going

Yep, I think that hit a lot of folks really hard and contributed to the economic crisis we are in. Low and Middle income folks could not cut back on the fuel they used going to work and hence had to draw down savings when they were living on a paycheck to paycheck budget and it does not take long for the average person to exhaust those savings. Then they have to choose which budget item gets slashed food, housing, medicine.... something has to go. First is discretionary buying, making things last longer and not buying things you do not absolutely need. Without the average consumer buying stu

Sounds similar to what happened with Steak and Ale , and Bennigans restaurant chains here in Dallas (and elsewhere). They had been experiencing the impact of the recession and were trying to cut operating costs and then found their line of credit (which most businesses use to cover buying supplies and paying employees while waiting for checks and credit card payments from customers to clear and be credited and reimbursments from corporate for promotions , advertising, and the like). They had a couple months of revolving bounced payroll checks and suppliers demanding cash before delivering t

Does it have a reset button like a router? I know that just unplugging it for a few minutes won't wipe the memory ; it will remember settings and things like Fax number, and options. Looking at the manual http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/x1100/eng/ug.pdf I suspect that the settings on the computer supercede any on the machine itself. So try changing the copy settings in your All In One Main Page on the machine (page 8 of the manual) See Page 29, answers to copy troubleshooting. The computer must be on ? That to me indicates that settings on the computer override those on the machine

Baker; you have to remember that when they have charter changes and bond issues etc on the ballot ; generally the actual wording of the item takes several pages so they just put an abbreviated description which is often very vague. Whenever these items are on the ballot you really need to both research the issue at hand and whether the ballot measure is to allow or prevent it. Our big one was should the county issue 750 million in general obligation bonds to fund the building of a new County Hospital (estimated cost of 1.8 Billion the balance of which will be funded by State, Federal, and Cha

So, when you print from a computer it does things correctly; but when you do a copy from the machine you get to many? Have you tried redoing the setup on the machine? You know, where you configure the fax number etc?

See your post at G4 I posted some suggestions there.

The exact wording of the B / $ it says on the black screen would help. It almost sounds like some hardware was replaced and this computer is no longer in original configuration so that it cannot be restored using the recovery partition.

They do the summer blend winter blend thing here in Dallas and ususally blame it for "shortages" which cause the price to jump . But it looks like right now that prices are still dropping.

This is not the first time that I have heard of this most recent issue with AVG and User32.dll and it is not the first time AVG messed up an an update caused it to delete critical system files rendering systems non bootable. Given the issues and problems I have not recommended AVG for some time.

Well after some of the past issues with the free version of ZA and even the paid one (like when they forgot to update their software before microsoft issued a critical update so ZA blocked internet access on updated computers) I hesitate to trust them even though they are currently top rated in many internet security comparisons. The new Norton 2009 versions are far superior to previous versions in terms of resource usage and system load. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2330018,00.asp http://reviews.cnet.com/internet-security-...7-33246586.html http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=2..

If you are going for just antivirus then panda does not ev -
For Or Against Norton Internet Security 2009

From what I have heard; Norton totally reworked the engine in AV 2009 and it is not only more effective but far less demanding. I haven't tried it myself but from what I hear it is a vast improvement in technology. Not scanning files which have not changed or been accessed since the last scan, not enabling features for software you do not need or use
