Finally Building A New Computer...
Pete_C replied to Surfer_Gurl's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Well, lets start with this The simple thing to do is to buy a wireless router and of course have a wireless adapter card in the new PC. This lets you network things and share the network wirelessly and as opposed to internet connection sharing you only need the router on and not the other PC. Leave the router on , they are cheap and reliable and designed for this. Trying to set up an ad hoc wireless network with just two computers (no router) and enabling internet connection sharing is more trouble than it is worth. Often you wind up with issues like an antivirus updater or similar causing -
http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm Dated, but a phoenix award or AMI is most common http://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/post-beep-codes.htm So I would go with damaged RAM or Video card. That you get fans spinning means power supply survived. That you get POST beeps would tend to indicate the motherboard and CPU survived. Simple test is to unplug and open case and remove all ram. Plug in and power on. Are the beeps the same? Shut off, unplug and put in one stick . Plug in repeat. Now do it for the video card. If the beep stays the same with either RAM or Video card removed, but changes wh

Not that much into poems; but several here http://www.thememorialdaytribute.com/memor...oems/index.html Now Barry Sadler 's "Ballad Of The Green Beret" is classic Fighting soldiers from the sky Fearless men who jump and die Men who mean just what they say The brave men of the Green Beret CHORUS: Silver wings upon their chest These are men, America's best One hundred men will test today But only three win the Green Beret Trained to live off nature's land Trained in combat, hand-to-hand Men who fight by night and day Courage peak from the Green Berets CHORUS Back at home a young wife waits Her

It holds a small / votive candle behind the glass. I would be concerned about it tipping over more than about sunlight lensing and hitting the same spot long enough to start a fire. But who knows. Most common is small ones with frosted glass. Hmm, I just realized I have a wind chime with a glass lens like that. I wonder if they think it can cause a fire. Had it over a year so I doubt it , at least not when hung up at a proper height.

Memorial Day is hotdogs traditionally (and they have Oscar Meyers on for 99 cents a pound locally ) so let me toss this one out. My OL loves Prices Pimento Cheese spread , and recently I caught it on sale for $3.50 for a three pound tub so I bought three. While she loves it on bread, I find that rather lacking; but something told me to try it on a hot dog. WOW, it is great, but it seems to be missing something. So far, I tried catsup (okay but still not what is missing), I tried yellow mustard (better than catsup but not what it needs, maybe hot chinese mustard next) Any suggestions? I am c

Congratulations chuck. I knew you could make it.

Specific details as to exactly what it does when you press the on button, where the boot sequence stops, and what you have tried so far would be invaluable in helping you solve this.

Yes, I am familiar with his software. Alex has several useful tools designed for portable drives . http://www.alexnolan.net/software/

Wow , about now I bet you wish you were the CBS News 48 hours correspondent Susan Spencer and could make their life a living hell until they fixed things. My first suggestion is backup and safety. I strongly reccommend to all notebook users to have a backup / hard drive failure plan and one of the simplest is an upgrade kit http://www.apricorn.com/products.php http://www.apricorn.com/products.php?cat_id=52 I like the Apricorn EZ upgrade kit http://www.apricorn.com/product_detail.php...reg&id=1023 Available without (above ) a hard drive or with one (below) http://www.apricorn.com/product_d

I would be scared it would crack the hinge if someone closed the top. I saw the second pic first and thought it looked like one of those fuzzy steering wheel covers you get to keep the wheel from getting so hot (or cold) it burns your hands . But I guess the idea of a simple laptop protector like that is a good one. All to many folks get all upset when they scratch the cover on the outside.

Bought some eggplant (hey they had them two for a dollar, not two pounds, two eggplants and they are nice quality) and they had zucchini for 69 cents a pound. Trying to decide if I want to smoke them (and some tomatoes and sweet onions ) and make a smoked veggie pasta salad or something else. Received a flyer advertising 4oz filets for a dollar. Gotta check em out; probably very low grade for that price; but then Tom Thumb is advertising Tbones, Ribeyes, and NY strips (all bone in ) for $3.99 a pound. so , maybe it is just competition at long last.

Found out that Milla Jovovich wanted to be a singer before she became an actress. Actually cut a record; but now all her stuff is free at her site. Lots of (Free) demos and stuff. Very seventies coffee shop style, kind of like Edie Brickell (New Bohemians) I think. Or maybe Janis (IAN?) http://www.millaj.com/music/index.shtml http://www.millaj.com/music/demos.shtml She includes the lyrics, so you can follow along as you listen. Very poetic.

Well I definitely cannot top that for morel mushrooms; I have a favorite chinese market which selles oyster mushrooms , king mushroooms, Enoki, shitaki and a couple others all for $1.99 a pound. I still haven't figured how they do it, but I go there for the mushrooms , fresh veggies , tofu and sometimes seafood. I have a Middle Eastern market I visit for the spices , and every once in a while take advantage of their price on ribeye. They sell HALAL (Islamic version of Kosher) beef, and for some reason no one likes ribeyes so they sell them , on the bone for $2.49 a pound. Nice and thick. I

I would have thought that they would have realized that this was a possibility and would have some sort of filtration and screening on the pump system. Also, due to the need for decompression on returns to the surface, don't most saturation divers have a "habitat" submerged with them for "emergencies" and breaks and typically work several days down and only then have to surface and decompress? IE, the working under pressure is not as dangerous as the decompressing is so they want to minimize the number of times you decompress on a job. Still it is possible and would be painful. http://www.s

Happy Birthday, which cold part of the world are you in now?

Yes, remember that they check the number and rank of sites which link to a site when determining ranking. So if a lot of folks link to the files hosted here, or to tutorials , articles, forum posts etc when they respond on other forums or blogs the higher the ranking here.

The alternative is never releasing the update. Agreed, Microsoft released the Alpha, the Beta, the Release Candidates etc ; so all the hardware and software authors have had ample time to find out if their product has a problem and fix it. I suspect that many of these problems stem from installation of XP on machines it really should never have been installed on. Sure with a little effort it installed and worked; but it was never really designed to run on those machines. Given the hundreds of millions of computers running XP; it is not surprising that a few will have major problems and a lo

Well, from what I see, it is not a "Microsoft" problem but a problem in most cases with third party drivers which are not correctly formatted. Remember, Microsoft does not support "OEM" modified versions that is up to the manufacturer to do .

Double check that you are not infected, of course it is more likely that someone you know is infected and part of a spam botnet and that your email address was harvested by the spambot and is being used by the automated sender as one of the"from" addresses it puts in.

I always like to add some creamed corn to the masa , just like I like adding it to cornbread. This helps, but the real key has got to be moist tender gelatinous meat inside. Also , after they are cooked in the steamer, you really need to put them into a lasagne pan or similar and cover them with sauce , either sour cream sauce, tomatillo (green) , or red (chili) sauce to keep them warm and moist just like enchiladas. Hmm, that does sound good been a while since I made chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce. Novi: regarding the allergies and sinus problems I know what you are talking abou

We had rain earlier this week but all the severe weather missed us. Then when the rain ended Wednesday we had a "dry line " move in with very high wind gusts. I was out on the front porch enjoying the breeze and watching the sky clear when I heard the bzzapppppp of a tree limb coming to close to a 3600V high line. I watched the blue sheet race down the back alley a block over and just new right away that power was out . Double checked and then waited for neighbors to start coming out to see what was up. A couple went in to call the power company, but I knew that we have the new meters which

I recently learned of a single station in the Dallas area which still sells 100% gasoline with no ethanol . So I filled up there. While I do not see the fantastic 30% increase in mileage I get if I fill up with the special gas they sell down by El Presidente's ranchero I do see a respectable 25% increase in mileage. So at $3.50 a gallon , I see that as an effective savings of 87.5 cents a gallon (well actually they are one of the cheapest in the area coming in at $3.44 when everyone else is $3.50 or higher) So my "effective" cost per gallon is is about $2.62 which while not as good as I wo

Did you read the "You must have SP2 installed to get certain important updates" I suspect that if you had SP3 full downloaded no problem; but that they want you updated to SP2 at a minimum to use Windows Update now that SP3 is out. No more support for unpatched systems, at least not without having to track things down. Just fiinished two SP3 updates no real problems; although on one machine two cmd.exe windows opened and one said repeatedly ERROR: The Parameter Is Incorrect. Research indicates this is probably related to either a printer driver date or a device with fixed IP on the network

Then they have obviously not really paid attention when they were here. Of course the tendency is to use pork shoulder roast to make tamales; although they tend to stew in simmering water/broth as opposed to braising. Stew the pork (10 cups water for every 3.5 lbs of pork shoulder) with garlic , onion, for 3-5 hours until it is falling off the bone . Remove the meat from the broth and allow to cool and then shred with forks like pulled pork and chop it up even finer. Defat the broth and use it mixed with corn flour (masa) (equal parts ) and shortning (1 part shortning for every 8 parts broth

Likewise; I like the encyclopedic inclusion of graphic content with the definition; but find it terribly limited. Probably good for a third grader who has never encountered these things in real life and has a hard time visualizing what they may be.
