  1. I grew up poor, and went to poor schools in 50's and early 60's (our community never passed a school levy in all 12 years of my schooling), so we all learned to make-do and do without. The easy cheap way to keep papers together without staples or paperclips, is to straighten out the pages in order and together, then diagonally bend a small top corner of the papers together, then make a small tear in the middle of the bent over part of the pages. It will surprisingly do a great job, and depending on your strength and care can do many pages together. I can do about 4 or 5 that way. I use stapler
  2. That's my plan for supper tonight. God bless everyone.
  3. or who is out to lunch God bless everyone.
  4. I disagreed with Cindy Sheehan right from the first I heard what she was doing by going to Crawford to dishonor her son by turning his death into a media circus. So I watched carefully to see the chinks in her character. Not hard to find after I heard about him re-upping voluntarily, and yet she talks like President Bush forced him into serving. Then I heard the rest of the family disagrees with her views. And I heard she was briefed by Move On people before leaving for Texas, and that seemed strange for a grieving mother to do. Plus the first reports sounded like Casey had just been killed a

  6. I have no idea where the Yankee part comes from for me!!! Or the Upper Midwestern for that matter. Your Linguistic Profile: 65% General American English 15% Dixie 10% Upper Midwestern 5% Midwestern 5% Yankee Did anyone check out the home page of that site? Scroll down the left side to "More Quizzes" Lots of fun stuff. Pat. God bless everyone.
  7. saying ahoy mate, evacuate, hurricane coming! God bless everyone.
  8. Welcome to the boards Kev, Lots of TTV, and G4 refugees here, even some Leoville ones, and others too. I am not sure since I haven't even started to figure it out after downloading it the other day, but I think you can skin the Opera browser, and that might help you with this site's background etc colors. You can also increase the size of everything real easy which I am thrilled about!!! So any Opera people have the definitive answer as to how to skin it for background and font colors??? No problem with asking questions here, we do it all the time in whatever thread or section we land on,
  9. Oh I mean the time is displayed in Eastern in my preferences since I live on the seacoast in NH. So when I look up anything, I see the time set for me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OOOPS!!! Sorry about misreading/misunderstanding that. I sure hope Tenmm turns up safe and sound soon. Pat. God bless everyone.
  10. Happy Birthday Flatiron, and Jaspossum too!! May you both be blessed with a long life filled with good health, happiness, and wealth. Pat. God bless everyone.
  11. Hi Mac, Haven't seen much of you lately, have missed you!!! OK What did you set on fire that you " don't feel like messing with fire right now anymore." So what happened and are you ok??? and is the house still standing? "and hug your kids espwcially when they don't want it" Good advice!!!! And Kids of all ages, hug your folks!!! You never know what tomorrow holds in store!!! Well so far all we have done, is hubby tore out some old gutters on porch, and the board behind that was rotted. Got the new stuff to replace it, and he got it primed, painted, then I helped him put it up. OH MY!!!
  12. Let's see now if they can drive safely past the 11 hours they were allowed to do. Good heavens doesn't anyone have any common sense here? Even 11 hours is to many to drive without sleep. We have had so many bad truck accidents in our state, many due to drivers falling asleep at the wheel. Yes even tanker trucks! Extending the hours they drive is insane. I have a huge respect for good truck drivers with properly maintained rigs, but they aren't superhuman enough to be able to go without rest, sleep, time off the road. The nation doesn't need gas so badly that it can't let the tanker truckers
  13. The first science class experiment I ever did as a young school kid was to put a tooth in a glass of coke overnight...no sign of it the next day. As for the various things coke can help you do, number one here is using it to loosen rusted on bolts. We live on the rainy wet side of Oregon, so lots of rusted stuff to deal with!!! Another thing it will do is to loosen dried on paint, such as when something needs to be taken apart that is painted over, use coke to easily loosen it. I have also heard that people clean barbeque grills with a brush that has been dipped in coke. I think I'll try the
  14. I have been wondering where he was too. I hope he is ok, and comes back soon. Thanks Mike for letting us know he at least lurked somewhere. Eastern Time??? I thought he was in southern Idaho? Maybe he is on another vacation. Pat. God bless everyone.
  15. Thank You Pete for explaining all this. I had a suspicion some of that was going on before, but not to that extent. Why not just be honest in the beginning to you mods, and tell you that you have to play 'momma may I', otherwise you were to be left powerless by their turning the boards into alley trash with no real rules now. What the mods are for now over there is beyond me, unless it is to lock/delete all threads talking about their mishandling of switch from Tech Support to Call For Help, or about the demodded and banned mods, or how we feel about the trashed boards, etc. I am so hoping th
  16. Yep Liz, that's what I did... headed to bed, a few minutes before you I guess. Surprising what a good rant, and a good night's sleep will do for a person!!! And maybe that is the good thing this thread did, let us sound off with our personal frustration over the whole mess. Nothing we could do (except give to Red Cross etc), while we sat watching this human disaster unfold. I have cried so much, and prayed alot for the people all week. I think I just needed to express myself over what I saw and thought. And I had the same feeling others were doing the same thing. It is so frustrating for tho
  17. Happy Birthday Lam109. That 109 isn't your age I hope? Though if it is double congratulations!!! May you be blessed with a long life filled with good health, happiness, and prosperity. Pat. God bless everyone.
  18. Welcome Catrysse E., to the best boards around. We are like a big extended family here, so glad to have you joining our family. Jump in anywhere you want to post. We'll be interested to hear from you. Pat. God bless everyone.
  19. Sure sounds intriguing. Thanks for sharing it with us Pete. Pat. God bless everyone.
  20. That's great that your state is jumping in to help. And yes it would be nice to personally help out individual families. Though I imagine they will suffer some weather shock once winter arrives in your neck of the woods. Sorry about being so steamed up last night folks. I thinnnnk I'm calmer today, due to not watching much news I'm sure. As for spelling, gotta love the new Google toolbar spell checker, that is when I remember to use it. Ha! I do leave in my own idiosyncrasies (hey it even works on guessing on partially spelled words like that one that I couldn't guess the rest of!!!) Pat. God
  21. Thanks Liz for the link, I hadn't read it for a long time. One of the greatest speeches ever written!!! In rereading it, one sentence really jumped out at me. Quote: "We cannot be satisfied as long as the Negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one." I think that is still a major problem in many cities, including perhaps New Orleans. And what keeps anyone of any race captive in those ghettos, the word Dr King used, and perhaps we would change things if we hadn't distorted our language to the PC correct 'poverty pockets' which doesn't sound 'so bad'? Many reasons, but one is
  22. They had a week's notice that it was coming, if I had no other way than to walk to higher ground and a better place to take shelter rather than drown, I'd get moving towards a better chance to survive, even at 61 with bad back and all. Maybe I could get lucky and get picked up by someone driving out. As for walking out afterwards, that looks like a better bet than staying put. Walk at night when cooler like they do in desert country when stranded. Try to get to safe spot during day to rest. I don't know how many miles it would be there, but it sure sounds better than waiting for someone to get
  23. Check out my recent "book" on this disaster, in the ranting game thread. I got more than a bit tv news overdosed on all the whining, demanding, mayhem and murder, and other stuff going on down there. By the way, if news crews can get in and the road was clear for trucks and buses to the Superdome coliseum, why didn't people just start walking out of town? I sure would have rather than endure being stuck waiting for people to rescue me that is if I'd been dumb enough to not leave in first place by whatever means available including walking if need be. And why did I only see one news bunch helpi
  24. Sorry about that Liz. I should never post when I am upset, hungry, and after to much tv news watching. Pat. God bless everyone.
  25. Welcome to these parts Karasu-kun!!! I'm Pat, a frequent poster, slightly nutty, and more than a little long-winded at times. Since a stranger is only a friend we haven't met yet, now you have joined we can get to know each other and we will have a new friend! Glad to have you joining Besttechie's peaceful haven of the message board world. Look around, stop in at the cafe for coffee and 'vittles', find a thread that interests you and jump right in with a post. Pat. God bless everyone.
