  1. Try reassociating all picture extensions back to Windows Picture and Fax viewer to see if they'll open. In control panel - folder options - file types tab, scroll to jpeg/jpg, gif, and bmp if you want to change all of them, highlight the extension and see what it opens with. If its not Pix & Fax viewer click Change and select it from the list, select the Always Use box and OK out. Do this for all picture extensions and see what happens. Dave
  2. Just to add a small word of warning about using this tip from my buddy Crow. Anytime a Windows update is applied, such as SP1 or SP2, some system files are updated and the file DATE is changed to reflect the newer version. SFC will scan and replace files that have been updated because it cannot determine the file is valid as it doesn't recognize the updated version. It will ask to replace this file and if the OK is given it will replace the new file with what it has on the install CD (older version). In some cases this can render some of the Service Pack updates invalid, although your next tri
  3. Cabrotor is a BackDoor Trojan program, please follow these directions. Scan here Symantec Security Check Then d'load HijackThis and put it into a folder you create so mit will create backups. Then update it right away, then scan with HijackThis and save the logfile. Post the logfile into the HijackThis Forum and we'll have a look at it. Dave
  4. Chappy is jealous...on both counts, the computer and your BF. Dave (madly in lust with Nerelda's sig girl)
  5. Well, I guess thats one way to fix a printer problem.. Printers are almost throw away nowadays anyway, replacement ink cartridges are almost as much as a new printer with ink. Dave
  6. Hi jerrys It's very simple to move non-OS related data into another partition/drive. Simply make sure that the partition is formatted in the same file system as the data being moved is formatted in. Using XP it is most likely in NTFS format unless you specified otherwise. Just create a folder or folders as you need, in the new drive and then right click the things you want to move, select Move to, browse to your new folder and highlight it, then click OK. To move multiple items at once, click the top item then move to the lowest item in the tree and while holding the SHIFT key, click the last

  9. Looks good to me now, those files did not show back up in the new log. therock247uk will probably post some "How to stay safe" links for you later, so keep an eye open for them. Dave
  10. Hey JSKY I prefer splitting them up myself for various reasons. 1) If your main OS becomes unbootable or unreadable, your data and personal things can be safe on another partition 2) easier maintenance - you only need to defrag a small portion of the disk as they are required rather than having to defrag the entire 120G's 3) hiding info from prying eyes - if you have other users and don't want them accessing certain data you can put it into a partition and hide the drive from them 4) keep some space as Unallocated, not just Unused. This way if you need to resize or rebuild your setup, you can

  12. NTLDR is a file off of the XP CD and has nothing to do with the drive itself. I would say this is either a read/write problem with the CD drive itself or a damaged CD. If the CD works in another CD drive it could still be slightly scratched but one drive may still read from it while another may not. Since it fails while trying to load the same file I would say it's the CD and the drive cannot read it, maybe due to a slight miscalibration or an IDE cable issue. Reformat using the XP CD utility and try again a few times. Or you could borrow a drive from the other machine, install it and try that
  13. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer and software. If that doesn't do it then gently clean the cartridge contacts with an alchohol solution but be careful not to touch them with your hands. Dave
  14. Another way that I've used for years... Start > run > type this in the run box "oobe/msoobe /a" without quotes and hit Enter. Although its much faster now with the tip from JSky Dave
  15. Hi Nerelda Simple to do, any changes made in your Gamer profile will not affect your Admin profile. Change the Gamer profile to Limited account after you make the changes and it should be good to go. Visit Black Viper Home page to get the gamer profile set up Good luck Dave
  16. Hey Mike I'ld like to say that I actually remembered this....but the truth is I d'loaded the PDF Help file for ZA Pro and read up on it... The process is pretty much the same for most firewalls, just different ways to get there so I didn't want to guess at it and sound like a Dork! Dave
  17. Yes of course, there's always a way to reverse this. I've use Sygate for the last 3 years so I'm not exactly positive Select Program Control>Programs - this should open a Programs list. Now find the program that you denied access to and change the access from a "X" to a green checkmark for Access or a "?" for ask. There is also an "Allow" in the shortcut menu that you can click to do this after you highlight the wanted program. Dave
  18. Hmm, thats odd...I only compressed it and changed the extension so your filter wouldn't bounce ie again. I just checked the zipped file I sent you and it was 177KB....very odd. Oh well, nothing else you need to do but run LSPFix and see if it works for you. Dave
  19. His TCP/IP stack was corrupted by WebHancer removal so we used LSPFix, it should rebuild the stack and access should be restored....we hope. Dave

  21. Hi bryanernest Your original thread is not locked so I can only assume that it was just a board glitch of some kind. Dave
  22. I also noticed that neither XP nor IE have any patches applied. This is a very dangerous way to run your machine as many known vulnerabilities exist and can be exploited along with your spyware problems. Please visit MS Windows Update and apply SP2 for XP and IE. Dave
  23. Actually the reason for this is in the way the Manufacturer calculate a Gigabyte. A true Gig is 1024MB but the Drive makers round this out to 1000MB when stating a drive capacity, so... Drive maker says 60G but it is really arond 58G, then you can calculate a small percentage as "Lost" space Dave
