  1. Hi everyone! Here's how you can add these 2 very handy commands into the right click (context) menu. With these you can simply right click an item and select "Copy to" which will open a browse window where you can select the location to copy the item into. It's really a time saver over the default way of having to copy the item and then go to the location to paste it into. I love it and use it all the time, I'm sure you will too! To add Copy to... and Move to... context menu options start > run > regedit and then create the following registry keys HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\Co
  2. thesidekickcat Please luv, do not feel bad about your posting that original post!!!! It really has nothing to do with your post, you were only going on the information you had at the time.....PLEASE do not stress yourself out so much over this, it's really not all that imortant. The PM's I sent you were just because I didn't want to cause any hard feelings between Pete and myself over this or cause Pete to lose any respect from G4 members. I SO MUCH appreciate your wanting to set things straight but really...you don't have to, you've done nothing wrong. My TRUE online friends here at BestTechi
  3. Hi Vile_DR IE must remain installed completely for Windows Updates to work and for the settings in Automatic Updates to function. With any portion of IE uninstalled, the machine will not auto-update if this setting is applied, and will not work at Windows Update. I recommend that IE be reinstalled on this machine but not used if thats what you want. How to Reinstall or Repair IE
  4. Hi Marty I'm a bit confused here by your post. Did you think that the items on that list are programs available for download? They aren't, what that is is a list of entries that you can find under your startups and the programs that make those entries. This list is used extensively by HJT experts to identify malware entries, I use sysinfo.org all the time. I'm just unsure of what your post meant, it sounded to me like you thought this was a listing of programs to download, if I'm wrong here please clarify for me.
  5. So, you're saying that you need to recover or replace the Chip itself? There are recovery steps you can try on the link that TheTerrorist_75 gave you, but if you need to replace the chip and it is NOT a socketed chip, then you'll need a new MoBo.
  6. Thanx to all of you who have showed your support thru either the PM's I recieved or in the apology thread. I'm reposting my Rant for others to know the truth as well... .................................................................... My Rant... Hi to anyone who cares to read this...my Rant. I don't usually spout off in public forums, but this little something has just been under my skin for awhile and a recent thread at G4TV has brought it back to the surface enough to just drive me nuts!! I'm sure most of you who are X-TTV members and also post at G4 have seen a little thread about the 1
  7. Hi Mike! A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!! May you celebrate safely and have many more. Dave
  8. I said way too much yesterday, and I am sorry to all who read that rant post of mine. It was a very stressful day for me and I was in a bit of a mood, that post should never have been written, let alone posted. Please accept my apologies and I'll just go crawl off into a hole somewhere now. Dave
  9. Hey Shadow I am truly sorry for your loss and please accept my sincere condolences, as well as passing them on to the rest of your family. In our thoughts and prayers Dave
  10. Hi Marty Since this is more of a question than a Tip, I'm, going to move it to Windows Support forum and leave a link to it in this forum. To answer your question I think a little background in System Restore is needed first. Monitoring your drives with System Restore is a good idea but you do not really lose any space to it. Windows will allocate space for restore points depending on the percentage of drive space you choose but it will automatically start cutting out older points as your drive space becomes low. It's a Dynamic process and is self monitoring so if you become really low on driv
  11. Hi jimras Do Not Format the partition! Once you're past the EULA screen it will try to detect any existing installation and will display the partition as such: C\Windows XP Home Edition (or Pro whichever) If that is indead the partition you want it will have the option to repair this install, I believe you press the "R" key for yes. It will then ask you if you wish to replace the existing Windows folder, again select the Yes option. If all is well it will delete and rebuild the windows installation folder and all is saved...hopefully. If it fails to detect any previous installed windows versio
  12. Hmm...strange cause setting mine to None eliminates all sounds including the mouse click. Dave
  13. Hi jimras Hook up the old drive by itself again and boot your XP install disk. This time tho, choose the Install option and allow it to go thru till you get the EULA screen where you have to push F8 to accept. After you do accept it will detect any WINDOWS installation on the disk. It should still see the old Windows installation folder and show that partition on the screen. At this point you can select to repair this install, select that option and run a repair install. This will only delete and rewrite all the Windows installation files and when it's done you will have to go thru the same in
  14. Hi Open control panel - sounds and audio devices, and in the sound tab set the sound scheme to None. Dave

  18. Hi jimmyd You can try to reverse that fan setup if you like, it should cause no problems. Since the CPU chip already has a heatsink and fan it should be just fine and with the extra air exhausting out, that will cool it some more. You can use a utility like Sisoft Sandra to monitor the CPU temp. If the chip does shut down from thermal overload, it's probably enough to get a better heatsink and fan for it. Intel chips do have a good thermal overload protection and will shut down well before any damage is done. I have not done any reading on how AMD is doing with their's but I'm sure they've mad
  19. Hey...I can get one in on time!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY SULTAN!! Dave
  20. Hey Mike Heh....I know what you speak of, my box has been causing me some real probs lately as well and in the last three weeks I have reinstalled..or tried to..XP at least 60 times. No word of a lie there either, it actually may even be understated. I finally moved all my data from an older HDD and installed onto that one instead and it seems to be working so far. Anyway, pick up this HDD Dianostic Tool from Seagate as it will recognize other HDD makers drives also, and run it from a boot floppy to check that drive. Good Luck! Dave
  21. Hi jimras Really, if your XP install is still running stable there is not much reason to reinstall the OS but many folks still do this as habit from the older MS OS's, which really did need a reinstall after some time usually. Heck, even I'll reinstall XP Pro if I get frustrated enough with stuff... OK, XP will install WITHOUT activation (not registration..you need not ever register if you wish not to) and will work for 30 days or 50 boots, but it will stop after that. Activation is painless and is done in two stages. First way is after you have booted to the CD and installed WINDOWS, the com
