1. Hi lamuskrat, and everyone else!! I must say this....your sense of values is very commendable, and this thread proves why I admire all the people on this board so much!! It's folks like you all here that gives me the confidence to think that our future here at Besttechie is bright, and we will be a forum that others will know as a place of honor, where all can come by and be treated with dignity and respect. I'm positive that all the very BEST from TTV and a few other boards, migrated here and now call this Home, and I think I know why. When I first met Jeff (Beluga), I must admit that I thou
2. Also this depends on the forum software as to how you code the links. For instance BestTechie's is like this: Besttechie Which gives you this..]Besttechie Note that it uses URL for this board, and the http address is after the URL=, whereas G4TV uses this: [L=Besttechie]http://www.besttechie.net/forums/index.php?[/L] that uses "L" for the link to give you the same thing there, and the text is right after the L=. I have 2 folders for my most common links, 1 for codeing here and another for G4. If I'm just doing a quick link
3. HAPPY..HAPPY..HAPPY..BIRTHDAY..BIRTHDAY..BIRTHDAY..NERELDA..NERELDA..NERELDA..!!! There's an echo in here...here...
4. Welcome Back Sultan!! Glad to see you came back to your senses where BestTechie is concerned at least, I would understand if you didn't return to G4 for some time, but to skip out on us here... You scared a few folks my friend but if you needed a time-out thats understandable. You're always among friends here tho...remember that!!
5. Show me how it's done master, my ranting skills are obviously lacking... ROFL!! With what...Morals? Ethics? Chicken pox? Anyway Mac, sorry to hear about your NASA job falling thru. This sure would be a lesson for those skriptkiddies out there but like you know..at that age/stage in life you can be given all the best advice in the world, but would you listen...
6. Hi handplane Ya, I was very upset at a few of the G4 regulars and their conduct in that thread. People seem to forget just how powerful our words can be at times, especially in the computer world. They seem to think and act like somehow none of this is real, that it's just text on a screen, but they forget that there are REAL PEOPLE on the other side of that screen with real feelings. Because we may feel some level of disconnect while just sitting in front of a screen with fancy colors, we have to remember that we truly are talking with live folks and treat them with the respect and dignity
7. Hi name9902, and Welcome to BestTechie! The EDB (external data bus) is a term for the data bus that connects your computer with any peripheral devices. This bus includes things like the USB bus, the IEEE1394 (firewire) bus and the Frontside bus. The Internal Data Bus is strictly contained within the CPU circuitry itself, moving data thru the chip's internal caches. Did this help?
8. OK, this is rather disturbing. Sultan_emerr has quit all the boards he was on and just disappeared....what the heck happened??? He's cancelled all 3 of his profiles at G4 and also quit here and WorldStart. There was a thread at G4 started by Tymekyller about Sultan being named "King Geek" at G4 and a few trolls there trashed him as just being a link poster and not a real helper. Ever since that thread I have not seen him around and his accounts have been cancelled....WTF!! If any of you have his personal email addy, please email him and find out what the heck is going on. He has been around WA
9. Sorry to all who came to say farewell to Stimpy and Hello to Griz, I had to go over to my Mom's tonight and do some errands for her that she couldn't do. Anyway, we'll schedule the retirement party for another time, real soon. Chocolate for breakfast eh....w00t!!
10. Hi everyone I finally changed my avatar picture....Stimpy firefighter has been retired!! A retirement dinner will be held in the BestTechie Coffee Shop Sunday May 15/05 @ 7PM for Stimpy. Stimpy served the citizens of BestTechie Village faithfully for 8 months, keeping all fires under control during his watch. Stimpy plans on spending his retirement hanging around the Arcade and Coffee shop mostly, but will be dropping into other parts of town on occasion to make sure all is well. Stimpy's duties will now be taken over by Mr. Grizzled, a long time firefighter for TTV until he was forced to move
11. LOL....good work you two!! Glad you got it figured out without too much trouble. As I said, it's worked great everytime I ever used it or did it for someone else. It's always the little things that trip us up...
12. Hi iwuud2 and Welcome to BestTechie.net, the nicest and safest place on the WWW. There really is no need to delete the SpyBot recovery files since the BackWeb Lite entries cannot do any harm from there. "BackWeb" can be spyware but in most cases, "BackWeb Lite" is a stripped down version of BackWeb that many companies use for its updater service without the spyware components, like Logitech as most of you have found out by now.
13. Hi murtu52 Thats strange, it's never failed to work for me or anyone else I know thats tried it. What version of Windows are you running? Can you post some screenshots of your edits on ImageShack or PhotoBucket so I can see what you did please.
14. You're all very welcome! I knew you'ld all like this one, it's one of my favorites and I add this immediately to my system if I reinstall the OS. I'm glad you all find the instructions easy to follow too, it's pretty important to get those just right so everyone can follow along no matter what skill level they may be. I'll add any more good tweaks as I find them. I was going thru the CLSID's yesterday looking for something to give me an inspiration and I think I may have found one. I'll be testing it out after I finish my System Restore tutorial today so I'll let you know if it works.
15. Ahh..there it is... Sorry robroy, I should've saved a couple for you....thx for the chicken!! I think tonight we should fire up the Barby-Q, throw on a few steaks, grab a few dozen beer and some wine, and sit around the firepit I built outside. All we need is the makings for some Smores and we'll have a party!!
16. Yes, a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY PIPEX!!

Hola! Thought you folks might like to see this... You may not know that many non-living things have a gender. For example: 1) Ziploc Bags -- They are Male, because they hold everything in, but you can see right through them. 2) Copiers -- They are Female, because once turned off, it takes a while to warm them up again. It's an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed, but can wreak havoc if the wrong buttons are pushed. 3) Tire -- Male, because it goes bald and it's often over-inflated. 4) Hot Air Balloon -- Male, because, to get it to go anywhere, you have to light a fire
18. Ummm...if you wipe the entire drive clean, that may include the hidden partition with the OS image that the recovery disks use to restore the OS. If you plan on giving this machine away with an OS installed on it, I don't believe you want to go this route, but if you intend on giving it away as an empyt HDD, then it will be fine. I would check to see if the eraser program you're going to run can recognize the hidden image partition first and skip that area if possible. Otherwise your recovery disks will be useless.
19. Hi Vile_DR I can't remember exactly where I found this gem but I believe I heard about it on a TTV show a couple years back. I also ran a test on my test install to see how this may have been brought about. I ran a search of the registry for the CLSID that is entered for the Copy To key value and found it to be the CLSID for a service called "Microsoft Copy To Service". Same for the Move to key's CLSID and it corresponds to a service aptly called MIcrosoft Move To service....what a concept eh. Well, it seems to me that for popup windows and anything else for that matter, there is a service or
20. Wow!! This is cool, I love a good coffee shop for it's banter and good friends who drop in. Hi rv56, how are things up your way today? I don't know if you guys are getting the same system we are right now but it just snowed here.... Not much and nothing that stuck since the ground is warm but still it was snow and thats the last thing I want to see right now. BTW, is there any French Vanilla creamer in this place?
21. You're very welcome Vile_DR! Like I said, I love it too and it's one of the first tweaks I make after I reinstall an OS, it's that important to me.
22. Isn't that the truth... Those definately were the days my friend!! "TAG...you're it now"
23. It's up folks, go to the BestTechie Knowledge Base and have a look. I also put in a post showing how to add the above keys into the registry. Hope you like it!!
24. Well, now that you know how to edit the registry and you've worked up the courage to give it a try, lets make a change that I know you'll like so you can get some first hand experience inside the registry. In the Windows Tips & Tricks forum, I posted an article on how to add two values to your right-click context menu, "Copy To" and "Move To". These options will enable you to simply right-click an object, select either option, and move it or copy it to another location just like that. I'm now going to walk you thru how to make these changes so you can see how easy it is to work inside the
25. How to: Edit the Registry Edited May 14/05 - New information added! Hi everyone! This article is designed to be a refference guide to those who are not familiar with the Windows Registry but need to edit the registry for some reason. About the Registry The Windows Registry is something that many users do not even know exists and resides in a hidden area of the Operating System, and there is good reason for this. The Registry holds all the information that your computer needs to bootup and to function properly. Making a mistake in the Regist
