  4. Hi G4TV has CUT the Tech forum from the boards effective tomorrow!! Major changes are taking effect over there, so I'm gone...no more board to mod for me so there's no reason to ever go there again. I've invited others there to join us, but I hope some of the A-HOLES decide not to Anyway, we may soon see a major pickup in the Windows support section (fingers crossed)

  6. INTERNATIONAL THINKING AT ITS BEST Question: What is the truest definition of Globalization? Answer: Princess Diana's death. Question: How come? Answer: An English princess with an Egyptian boyfriend crashes in a French tunnel, driving a German car with a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was drunk on Scottish whisky, (check the bottle before you change the spelling) followed closely by Italian Paparazzi, on Japanese motorcycles; treated by an American doctor, using Brazilian medicines. This is sent to you by a Canadian, using Bill Gates's technology, and you're probably reading this on

    Frame Design

Hi BD Thx for the feedback. I know blue is an often used color, but I think it conveys the message "Technology" also. I'm still going to try out a few more tho and see what I can come up with. The main color theme will still be white, that won't change because I believe white gives a more professional look to a site. Thx again BD

    Frame Design

Hi everyone I've designed a frame style that I think I'm going to be using for my web site and I thought I'ld post it here for review and comments. The idea is to have 3 to 5 main stories on the front page, in these frames and have them stacked on top of each other, with some slight seperation of course. I think this design is crisp and clean, and easy on the eyes. I made it in a somewhat "folder" style, since folders are supposed to hold useful information, and thats what my site is going to do. I've been going back and forth with a buddy of mine, a true Windows expert....my mentor so to spea
  9. Sorry Liz...forgot to explain what Slipstreaming is... What you're doing is taking all the install files from your XP CD and putting them onto your hard drive in a file. Then you get SP2 in a package thats designed for special deployments in a multi-computer environment like corporations. With all these files on your hard drive, you can give XP a command to "Combine" them, and not just add the files together, but to actually "Install" the update files into the proper places. Then you burn the results to a CD, and you now have XP with SP2 ready to go!!
  10. Hi ladies Making an install CD with SP2 slipstreamed into it, is definately the way to go, you'll never have to wait for that ungodly long d'load again, or even use that SP2 CD they sent you. You will have a perfect XP SP2 install right out of the gate, with possibly only a couple of new updates to get that are SP3 bound. I think what I'll do is write a small tutorial on how to do it, basically a copy from another site, but here for your use. I'll add direct links to what you need and some screenshots of what things should look like so you can be sure you're on the right track. I'll work on th
  11. My first reply into this thread. I guess I just may have to sell off my beloved 4 X 4 and get some sensible smaller vehicle thats easier on gas. Gas prices just went over $1.00 a LITRE yeterday here!!! For those of you who are non-metric, that works out to around $4.54 a gallon. It cost me well over $100 to fill my truck yeterday and I average around 400 km per tank, so thats about a doller per km.....OUCH!!!! I've sworn up & down that I will never go thru another Saskatchewan winter without 4 wheel drive, once you've had one you'll never go back. Well, I may have to look for something in
  12. A woman walked into the kitchen to find her husband stalking around with a fly swatter. "What are you doing?" She asked. "Hunting Flies" He responded. "Oh. Killing any?" She asked. "Yep, 3 males, 2 Females," he replied. Intrigued, she asked. "How can you tell them apart?" He responded, "3 were on a beer can, 2 were on the phone."
  13. The Old Poodle A wealthy old lady decides to go on a photo safari in Africa, taking her faithful aged old poodle named Cuddles, along for the company. One day the poodle starts chasing butterflies and before long, Cuddles discovers that she's lost. Wandering about, she notices a leopard heading rapidly in her direction with the intention of having lunch. The old poodle thinks, "Oh, oh! I'm in deep sh*t now!" Noticing some bones on the ground close by, she immediately settles down to chew on the bones with her back to the approaching cat. Just as the leopard is about to leap, the old poodle ex
  14. Hi Liz and Pat I know you folks with dialup absolutely dread having to reinstall the OS due to the length of time it takes to reinstall the latest Service Pack, and probably have avoided doing so sometimes just because of this. If you want, I can take you thru making a Slipstreamed OS install CD with the latest SP integrated into the install, so you'll never have that download time again, and having to possibly reinstall the OS will not be such a dreaded ordeal. Its not as difficult as you may think and its extremely handy to have your OS install CD completely up to date.
  15. Yah Marko, I think the name of that style of "music" is short by one letter.....a "C"...right at the beginning.
  16. Hmm..I can't think of what those apps would do to the boot record, so lets have a look at it. Post a copy of your boot.ini file here please. If you do not know how or where it is, its a hidden file on the root of your boot drive/partition, but an easy way to access it is, open control panel - system - advanced tab, startup & recovery box, settings button - click the Edit button. Copy/paste the contents of the notepad file here please.
  17. I like this one....it hits the nail on the head!!
  18. Well, I can't say I'm "obsessed" with computers, but I certainly am very interested in their capabilities, and its amazing what can be done with 2 little numbers...1 and 0. Those 2 numbers can take man to Mars and beyond, then they can turn around and make a birthday card for your kids...that is truly amazing! Just thinking about what is going on in the background every time you turn on your computer and access the Internet is mind boggling. That it allows us the ability to do what we're doing right now, communicate with people from all over the world in real time, has changed our lives in man
  19. Little Pedro knows history It was the first day of school and a new student named Pedro Martinez, the son of a Mexican restaurateur, entered the fourth grade. The teacher said, "Let's begin by reviewing some American history. "Who said 'Give me Liberty, or give me Death?'" She saw a sea of blank faces, except for Pedro, who had his hand up. "Patrick Henry, 1775." "Very good!" apprised the teacher. "Now, who said, "Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth?" Again, no response except from Pedro: "Abraham Lincoln, 1863." The teacher sn

    My New Website

CRAP!!! I just visited Pierce's web site for the first time tonite, and found out its very similar to what I have planned to build!!!! Sorry Pierce, I did NOT steal your idea, I just came up with it a bit late it seems... Well, I've done too much legwork on this already, and have too many experts lined up to write articles, to stop now so I guess it will just be a bit of friendly competition. The site layout will be totally different but the idea of having anyone able to submit articles, or ideas, is similar. Also the News and general content are pretty much what I had in mind for mine too. I
  21. Hi Liz Thats not uncommon at all, the icon will go away if its not clicked on after awhile. It will come back after you reboot when it will do another check for updates. It could also have been you have it set to "Hide inactive icons" on the taskbar. Right click an open spot on the taskbar, click Properties, and uncheck that box on the taskbar tab.
  22. Well, not to say that a perfect zero isn't good, but basically its guessing correctly. The human nervous system cannot react that fast to visual cues, so this is just a "shot in the dark" that hit the mark. Still....good job Scarlett! It probably will be hard for someone to match that.
  23. When you set an Admin password for regular windows, it also sets an Admin password for safe mode as well. One way to remove this is with a Repair install of the OS, and next time, remind your brother to make a Password Reset floppy when making passwords. How to create and use a password reset disk for a computer that is not a domain member in Windows XP
  24. My 21 year old neice was abducted, raped, and murdered in Albuquerque NM in 1993. That side of the family is big time fire and police in the family, so if the offender had been found by the City police, he probably would have been shot on sight and have a gun planted on his dead body. As it came down, he was captured by the State police, driving her car, and had a .357 on the seat beside him. He got 20 years....bastard was on parole from San Quentin and shouldn't even have been in NM, but he had been there for 6 months at the time. We have to get TOUGHER on this type of criminal...take a life,

    My New Website

Thanx for the vote of confidence everyone...remember tho, that you all are invited to submit something for publication too! Try your hand at writing about your favorite piece of technology, review a new camera or sumthin, lots of stuff that anyone here can do very well at. Joe I have the address but haven't even put in index.htm, so there's nothing to see quite yet. I've been doing a little tweaking on a front page to upload right away with the explanation of what I want the site to be, and accomplish. I'll post the URL as soon as I get it loaded.
