Hey Lynsey, Ok, lets try this: Right click realtek AC'97 audio for VIA ® audio controller Choose Properties Under the General tab at the bottom make sure 'Device Usage' is set to 'Use this device (enable)' If it set to enable already, then try doing this: Right click realtek AC'97 audio for VIA ® audio controller Click uninstall Then reboot your computer Windows should notice the the sound card and reinstall the drivers for it. Hi Everyone, Those signatures are indeed harmless as many members here know. However, let me give you an example of why we don't allow them. Someone who is having PC problems whether it be spyware problems or just a problem with Windows will come to this forum and be looking through posts and see the sig, then possibly become worried that they are being spied on. I have a Windows ME disk, I could install that on a VM and try it, just probably not today. BTW, I did this test on XP. And yes, you're correct about O10's which are associated with TCP/IP stacks. Now let me explain why he is not wrong to a certain degree. You can theoretically delete everything in a HJT log, but (of course there's always a but) it does depend on the log itself. Windows services will not be deleted, but they will be disabled most likely, which means you'll have to restart them manually. However, as stated they are not deleted. Hi, I have to disagree. I disagree for a few reasons. Partitioning is a great thing to do no matter what kind of stuff you do on your PC. It keeps things organized. It also decreases fragmentation on your hard drive, especially with the hard drives we have today, they're only getting bigger, therefore you don't have to defrag as often and it makes things quicker. Also, running scans such as AV's or Anti-spyware scans, on an unpartitioned drive that is 300GB, that would take a very long, compared to a drive that is partitioned. I recently bought a 300GB hard drive and I partitioned it up.

Heya, I actually perfer Ultra VNC. I think it's much better than Real VNC by far and you can transfer files with it, it's really fast for me over my LAN, and it's pretty good when you're connecting from outside your LAN. Hey Marty, Alright, let's see. First off, you don't install the recovery console perse, it's something you can get to by booting to your Windows Disk. Can you answer some of these questions? 1. What OS are you running? What service pack? (if any) 2. What Windows OS Disk are you booting to? 3. What are you trying to do from the recovery console? 4. What is the exact message you get? Also, what command are you typing into the recovery console? Post back with the answers to those questions, that way it'll be easier to help you. B

Ok, lets just clean out your temp internet files. In IE Tools Internet Options Delete Files Apply/Ok Also, your hjt log looks ok. What you can do is go to the location that those virus files are located and see if they're still there. If so, try to delete the files from normal mode regualarly if you can't boot to safe mode and delete them. After that you should be ok. Then you can re-enable system restore if you would like to. The same way you disabled it just uncheck it to turn it back on and apply/ok. You can fix this with HJT: O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe Good luck! B

Ok, please boot to safe mode, and run AVG from there, have it clean what it can. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm Follow the Windows XP directions. Then reboot into normal mode, and run this scan. http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/ Click "Scan your PC" then "Check Now" in the popup window, fill out the info and scan. Make sure to include your Panda log in your next reply. Good luck! B

Ok, first thing we should do is disable system restore. To do that follow this: Right click My Computer Choose Properties Go to the System Restore tab Check Turn off System Restore Apply/Ok Next, reboot. After you reboot run an AVG scan, see if it finds anything and if it does let me know. Then after you reboot and run the AVG scan post a HijackThis log. Ok just to repeat what JDoors said, boot to safe mode (I believe you're running 98SE so the hjt log says, so the link below should help): http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm#01 Then try running defrag. It will probably run, sometimes it can't run in normal mode due to the fact too many things are trying to access the drive, etc.. So safe mode should work. Have you tried running it in safe mode?
