Yeah, you have a rootkit (trojan horse) info can be found here: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data...or.rustock.html Please download ewido anti-malware it is a trial version of the program. Install ewido security suite When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu". Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it. The program will now go to the main screen You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files. On the left hand side of the main screen click update Then click on Start Update

Sounds like the Java ByteVerify virus, it's not at all that harmful and easy to remove. Also, for more info on it ... http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusin...s.aspx?id=36725 <-- looks like they also have some kind of removal procedure/tool - I'd use their removal procedure/tool to make sure AVG is not pulling a false positive. Does it give like a filename and a location of the file? If so, can you post that information? Thanks. B

Ok, let's try something else... You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix. Please download AproposFix from here: http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/aproposfix.exe Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet. Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following: 1) Restart your computer 2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8. 3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear 4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode

My ISP has never had any major problems with downtime and with all seriousness, I've never experienced downtime except for the times my power went out or that one time I fried my cable modem...but we won't get into that. I've had so far basically 100% uptime. My ISP isn't a huge company like others, but it's really good. I've found that some of the smaller ISP's can tend to be better. The ISP is owned by the local cable company called Cablevision and the ISP is called Optimum Online. I got cable back in 1998 when it first came out (well my area was one of the firsts to be able to get cabl

Hey Everyone, Thanks to Pierce for getting me to do this. I just set up a RSS for the forums, you can access by clicking the little RSS button at the bottom of the forums and FireFox and Opera both recognize the feed as well. You'll see in the address bar. I know a lot of our members like RSS, so hopefully this will be a nice feature. Thanks again Pierce for reminding me about it and getting me to do it. It's a great idea! B

Moved to PC Support. Yes, newegg has some good stuff and since the PC is old, the price of the ram shouldn't be too bad, so check them out. Also, as noted you're going to have to find out what kind of ram you have. You could run a program like Belarc Advisor and it should tell you. http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html <-- Download there. B

Hmm, well that looks okay. Are you still having problems honey?

Hey Honey!! Alright... you're clean basically, just going to have you uninstall one program and run another program called rookit revealer. It will check for rootkits, and if you have one we'll find it and remove it. First... Go to Add/Remove Programs and scroll down to ViewPoint Manager and uninstall it. Next... Do the following: Please download Rootkit Revealer (link is at the very bottom of the page) Unzip it to your desktop. Open the rootkitrevealer folder and double-click rootkitrevealer.exe Click the Scan button (bottom right) It may take a while to scan (don't do anything while it

Your log looks clean now! Are you having any more problems? Please take a look at the prevention advice below, as it can help keep you from getting infected again. Ok, I missed something, due to the formatting of the first HJT log you posted. Close all windows except for HJT and have it fix the following: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Network Services Controller] C:\WINDOWS\System32\mmsvc32.exe Then reboot into safe mode again, delete the following file in red (if present) C:\WINDOWS\System32\mmsvc32.exe <-- delete the file (if present) Then reboot back into normal mode and post a brand new HJT log. Good luck! B
