I imagine that it will be a non-standard power supply. Cataclysmcow or uberpenguin would probably know somehting of these early PCs. Do you have the PC in your possession? IBM vintage PCs at ebay
-
What's the model number? Is it an early PS/1 with the power supply in the monitor? There are several IBM PS/1 computers listed at ebay. They go for about $50 to $70.

I really don't why XP has so many issues with sound/media programs.
-
You wouldn't believe how long it took me to figure that out when I first got this motherboard that uses the same program. I still don't like the sound quality. I will be adding a sound card in the future.

Don't forget the smells of LaPage's burning vehicle and the oil spill from Kenseth. I had Kenseth picked in my fantasy club.

In Control Panel open Sounds and Audio Devices. Click the Audio tab and see if Realtek AC97 Audio shows as default in the Sound playback box and the box for Use only default devices is checked. Also look in your Temp files or Realtek folder under Programs in C:\Windows for soundman.exe. Double click to execute it. I have found that it isn't self installing you need to execute the file for your sound to work.

PM from Doctor USA. Do you have SP2 installed? Did this start occurring after the latest updates? Remove Windows Anti-Spyware/Defender. It is still Beta and may be causing problems. I don't recommend running Beta programs especially on OEM computers. I need to know if your computer is fully updated. -
Keylogger Suggestions?

Did you still have XP on the hard drive when you installed the new motherboard or did you do a repair/fresh install of XP? What are the motherboard and memory make and model numbers? You can run a 512 and 256 stick of RAM on a motherboard as long as the memory type is the same. At 512MB you may have problems running too many programs at once. What version of Firefox? Usually if you open then minimze FF than maximize it the memory usage will drop. -

I think you would be better off finding out why your computer is acting up and fixing it. What operating system? What are the computer specs? Is this an OEM computer such as a Dell, HP or etc.? -
When using cast iron for cooking you will notice an even heat transfer. I usually warm it up on my gas stove with a medium flame then I can reduce the heat while cooking. This provides with a thoroughly cooked meal with no scorching. When I am done I just add a tablespoon of fresh oil and wipe the pan out with paper towels. After a couple of weeks if there is the slightest build up in any part of the pan I will add a couple cups of water and bring it to a boil. This will loosen any particles. I will pour this onto the dogs food and wipe the pan clean with paper towels then reheat and add more

It could. I would replace it.

Which Asterisk? PBX/voip, @Home or password?

A bad power connector could cause this problem. I have one 4-pin connector that was bad going to my slave drive. It would cause the drive to click then freeze the computer. This went on for some time before I replaced to molex connector. The hard drive is fine. In fact It is being used right now. Many hard drives will click as they power up and down. Some of them you can hear while others are not noticeable.

You may still need to change the timing some. Also Ethanol sucks in cold climates.

Solution for gas guage stuck at full or never going past half > clean the ground where the wire attaches to the tank or replace the float. Either method requires loosening the gas tank straps and lowering it. Best done with near empty tank.
-
Don't forget the Federal permit to distill alcohol. It is a must or the revenuers will be breathing down your back. You will have to change jets/injectors, fuel pump and lines plus tweak the timing settings. If it is a computer equipped vehicle you will need to get it re-calibrated. By the way, you burn more Ethanol in a given distance than gas. You might want a bigger fuel tank. After buying the kit, ingredients, vehicle parts, labor plus permit you may find your savings not to be what is expected. You will at least be environmentally friendly.

The speed will also depend on if you are running the full gamut of tests. For Athlon processors run tests 5 & 8. If you receive errors during those test then the memory isn't compatible with the Athlon which can be picky.

Win98SE/ME/2K with 500MHz to 2GHz CPU, 128-512MB RAM and a 6-20 GB hard drive works just fine for the average user. I have done everything I wanted with my Win98SE systems starting from a Gateway 2000 P160 with 160MHz Pentium, 64MB of PC66 RAM and 2GB WD HDD, Homebuilt 450MHz AMD K6-2, 256MB PC100 RAM and 2GB & 4GB WD HDDs, Homebuilt OCed 750MHz to 1GHz AMD T-Bird Slot A, 512MB PC100 RAM and twin 20GB WD HDDs to my newest 4 year old homebuilt (that now dual boots 98SE & XP Home) with AMD 2400+, 512MB PC2700 RAM and 20GB WD HDD & 20GB IBM HDD. These have been my setups since 1999. I

I would test each stick separately. Did you try rotating the sticks one at a time then boot the computer? This would at least give you an idea if the stick is incompatible with the motherboard and/or bad. As for the speed of memtest. http://www.memtest86.com/

That sounds like a pretty good statagie. With that said, do you think it really matters much if a program leaves a bit of info in the registry? I would not think a few extra entrys would slow stuff down much. Some leave entries that report back. Also some trial software places entries in your firewall so they can call home. It is always a good idea to clean up after discovering you don't want to conrtinue using trial software. Using System restore makes this easy.

First of all many OEM PC makers include some type of program that is considered spyware, such as HP/Compaq's BackWeb. This is common knowledge to many people and there are plenty of websites that detail the removal procedures. Dell's My Way Search Assistant was marketed by AskJeeves. Starting With A Clean Machine Dell My Way Search Assistant This site discusses removing My Way from Dells. Remove "MY WAY SEARCH ASSISTANT"

Very possible.

If SR slowed down your system then you need to reduce the size of it. You can reduce System Restore's voracious appetite for disk space by manually reducing the area set aside for the Restore cache area. Here's how to access that setting: In XP: Right click on My Computer, then Properties, and then the System Restore tab. Select the hard drive you wish to adjust (in XP, each drive can have its own System Restore setting), and click the Settings button. I have mine set to 5% (1061MB) on a 20GB hard drive space. For 2 weeks worth you could set it as low as 200MB.

I have been using that site for a few months. I like it to host a one time used image instead of cluttering up my PhotoBucket accounts. It does perform much quicker than ImageShack and isn't down as much. The only thing with ImageShack is the capability to create thumbnails.

I just scrub my new cast iron skillets and such in the dishpan so they are clean of residue then place them in the oven. Once they are warmed up I rub oil all over them and place them back in the oven for a couple of hours. I place a cookie sheet on the shelf below to catch any drips.
