  1. Shut it down and unplug it. Check all cabling and the power supply. Clean any dust out while you have the case open.
  2. I looked at your old HJT log and didn't like a couple of items. The main one was that Norton and AVG were both on the PC. They can conflict causing false reports. I would like to see a new HJT log posted in the malware section for a senior HJT expert to look it over.
  3. If you formatted the drive as NTFS it hardly ever should need to be defragged. Check it every 3 months if you wish. Defrag only if it shows a lot of red. If it is formatted FAT32 check it once a month if you wish. My system is FAT 32 and I may defrag once every 2-3 months.
  4. Do you defrag in regular or safe mode? I have always defragged in Safe Mode so that less programs are running in the background. Also some anti-virus programs run resident in either mode and won't allow you to defrag them. It is not unusual to see a few files that couldn't be defragged.
  5. Windy and overcast with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s. I installed my new furnace in time. I still need to re-shingle one section of the roof, but that will have to wait until some of my friends get some free time. My legs are killing me just from carrying some sheetrock, 5 gallon bucket of mud and a couple 5 gallon buckets of paint upstairs.
  6. I still enjoy the hands on baking of bread. I loved watching and helping my grandmother and mother when it was baking time. I find it therapeutic.
  7. Usually the sign of a mouse or PS/2 port gone bad.
  8. One reason why most of my exes cheated one me was due to my paying too much attention to my cars.
  9. Did someone mention beer and expert? Bud sales went flat when I had to quit drinking.
  10. My new doctor had me admitted to Oswego Hospital while I sat in her examination room. I just spent a lovely week there. Looks like I have a slight issue with my heart's left ventricle. I need to see a specialist in two weeks.
  11. I finally have a new doctor assigned to me and I get to meet her tomorrow morning. Now maybe I can get some help with my lungs.

  13. I go for the delete on reboot whenever files are found in memory. MBAM hasn't failed me yet with that option.
  14. I am going to contact my transplant team Monday and see if they can get me admitted to another hospital close by. As it is I have been getting a couple hours of sleep here and there in my recliner. As long as I am sitting up I can breathe shallowly. I placed a couple of cushions under my feet to keep them raised so the edema abates.
  15. First, it helps to identify your operating system in the beginning. Second, have you read our Vista tips section? In that section JSKY outlined the procedure to download and install SP1. http://www.besttechie.net/forums/Installin...Sp1-t13096.html Wait for one of the people who run Vista and know how to recover from this problem. MS also offers free support for SP1 until March 2009. http://support.microsoft.com/common/intern...mp;gprid=500921
  16. Is your PC a proprietary system such as a Dell? Is the WinXP that was installed from a legit CD with key? Why are you finally updating to SP1? Did you make sure the system was malware free, the cache was cleared and the drive defragged before attempting to update?
  17. I now know why my local hospital has been ordered to close by the Berger Commission. I called early today and said I would be coming in so they could admit me. I arrived to a room full of people coughing, hacking and sneezing only to be told to wait. My lungs are bad enough that I didn't need to be inhaling the germs permeating the waiting area. After two hours sitting in a hard plastic chair my legs started swelling from the edema so bad that they seemed to be at the bursting point. I got up and paced about so my legs could get some blood flow. I noticed that a lady was curled up on the floor

  19. Thanks. The normal treatment isn't bad. They just pop a needle with an attached tube into the pleural cavity and suction the fluid out. If it is difficult to remove the fluid then they open me up to remove it. The biggest pain is getting ready to go in. I spent most of yesterday going over with the crew what needed to be done at work. Then I had to get someone to take care of my dog, which is hard because he hates everyone. Throw in doing the laundry, dishes, discarding leftovers and cleaning the house before I leave. Now I will wait for the call that a room is ready.
  20. I need to go back into the hospital for a few days, hopefully. In the last two weeks Edema has set into my legs and lungs. When ever I tried to do a simple job I thought my heart was going to explode. I could not catch my breath when laying down. The last week and a half I slept sitting up in my chair with my legs propped up. If it is anything like the last time, all I'll want to do is catch up on my sleep after the treatments have been done.
  21. Ike made an appearance after midnight. It combined with a cold front off the lake. 50-60 m.p.h. winds with lake effect rain. My apple tree now lays on it's side against the back of the house. Momentary outages in my area early this morning. Almost 90,000 customers were without any power. National Greed says it may take several days to get power back for everyone.
  22. Go to My Controls at the top, on the left under Options select Manage My Attachments then check the box next to the attachment you want deleted and click the Delete button.
  23. All you do is open the CCleaner backup folder, find the backup file for when you goofed (it's dated), right click the file and select Merge.
  24. Can you get into safe mode and run your anti-virus program?
