  1. I had to go see a heart specialist this morning. I looked out the window and saw the snow coming down hard, so I got ready and left early. I was amazed at the idiots up here sliding off the roads. When I got to the doctors I was told several tests would be done. I told them I already got the stress test driving there. The office cracked up. Just about every car off the road were small front wheel drives. When will they learn to put snow tires at all four corners and a couple of sand bags in the trunk.
  2. On the Compaq look for the I386 folder and follow the directions in the above System File Checker (sfc /scannow) link so you won't need the CD.
  3. Properly used CCleaner should not cause a problem. The only time it can mess up your system is when you use the Registry clean option. Always make sure you select yes for backup. I run both CCleaner and ATF Cleaner. I would say that after keeping up with the newest updates that 256MB of RAM is inadequate. I would run System File Checker (sfc /scannow) to verify your files and registry are fine. If you are using IE7 there could be a problem with the phishing filter. http://support.microsoft.com/ph/8722
  4. My ancient 6 year old PC does what it needs to do. It is warmed up and ready to go by the time I get my first sip of coffee and drag of a cigarette. I have no hesitation with any of it's programs. System: AMD XP 2400+; Epox 8KHA+; Kingston 3x256 PC2700; MSI MX-4000 T-128; Memorex 40 Maxx CD-RW; Lite-On 52X CD-Rom.
  5. Processes don't mean crap if you are not using your memory to the max.
  6. They are an open design, so when you start approaching half volume on most portable players people near you will hear the tunes.
  7. I just run Disk Cleanup. You can highlight Temporary Internet Files then click the View Files button to see Content.IE5. On my own PC I created a shortcut to this folder and placed it on my desktop along with shortcuts to both Temp folders and the TIF folder.
  8. I copy and paste the file to a folder in My Documents. After checking to see that the file isn't corrupted I will then empty the TIF folder.

  11. As I have stated several times in the past many of those reviewers are not involved with actually fighting malware and their testing procedures are lacking. Many get paid well to review certain programs. Panda has worked quite well for me for many years. I laugh when I see McCrapee and Zone Alarm listed as excellent products. I aslo find Panda's support to be superior over most of the products in the top ten.
  12. Operating system? Did this occur after a recent update? Audio setup (onboard, PCI card or USB)? Any errors in Device Manager? What is your PC (OEM or custom built)?
  13. 87 octane dropped to $2.32 here and our Governor wants to increase the gas tax to help offset the economic crisis. |*(#&$$
  14. I am still running an old system with a 2 GHz, single core CPU and 768 MB of memory. Panda doesn't slow me down. I don't believe many users are in need of a security suite. I think AntiVir and Comodo are adequate for anti-virus and firewall programs. MBAM is great to scan with just to assure yourself that nothing got through.
  15. Voting was quite easy for me. I just watched out my window until I saw the parking lot of the polling place down the street to clear out a bit then walked over. I was in and out in less then 5 minutes.
  16. What is your opinion of Panda? Panda is still doing great on my PCs. I am getting ready to renew and will go with Panda Internet Security 2009. For my customers that want free programs I have been installing AntiVir and MBAM.
  17. Seeing as you have had good luck with it in the past and from reading CNET's review I would say go for it. They seemed to have worked out a lot of the past issues except for the lousy support.
  18. I could pay off my mortgage, pay a years land & school tax, pay the utility bills for a year, build a new 2 car garage, buy another new truck and buy a years worth of groceries for what was spent on her.
  19. Has this PC been updated to SP2 or SP3? Are you current with updates for all programs?
  20. See this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258471 I would just take the hard drive out and format it in another PC. Also check the Cmos battery on the motherboard to see if it is weak or bad.
  21. Is your network setup through a router? If so try another port on the router. Try power cycling the modem/router. Turn off/unplug the modem Turn off/unplug the router Turn off all computers that are plugged in Turn on/plug in the modem and wait for it to come all the way back up...this may take a few minutes so just sit and wait for all the lights to come back on and stabilize. Turn on/plug in the router and wait for it to come back up...same as the modem...wait for all the lights to stabilize. Now turn on one computer at a time, let it synchronize and proceed to the next one. You can also re
