    New To Me

Pretty cool stuff there. Thought I'd go with a PSA (Public Service Announcement):
  2. I have to say, anything that gets you away from the PC, TV and VGC (video game console) is something worth doing. Friends, travel, hiking, camping (maybe even hunting). People actually used to DO those things ALL THE TIME! No, REALLY! You'd be missed here (and elsewhere) but I'm with you on the " ... NOW what?" point. I got my e-mail, I logged onto the few places where I'm a member ... I browsed the few items I needed ... Umm ... OK, I thought of one more thing ... then ... I dunno. Maybe see if any more e-mails has arrived ... Check that forum again ... Umm ...
  3. Just got a note from a friend via e-mail with that site -- Hope they know people who send them truly do appreciate what they're doing for our country.
  4. Stop! ... Stop! ... You're killing me!!! He'll get the hang of it, unless he winds up depending on others to always do the cooking. On the other hand, if he continues to obsessively follow directions at least his meals will dependably taste the same every time -- That's not a bad thing, right? I've made stuff that turned out unbelievably fantastic, but never was able to duplicate it because I didn't have any exact measurements (or any idea what I was doing, but that's another issue).
  5. I did something similar once where I worked -- One woman puked her guts out. "Pay attention!"
  6. One jar per can of tuna, right?
  7. "Did you hear about the constipated mathematican? He worked it out with a pencil." No comment.
  8. Fifth/Third just started opening around here, after all the other stupid bank names it just struck me as a little stranger than the others. Here's some more pics from the site: Steven Hawking is one of the greatest minds of our time (if not all time) and his book, "A Brief History Of Time" has been a best-seller for years, making theoretical physics almost accessable to the general public. A book store slapped a sticker on the book, changing its meaning slightly: Uh, where, exactly, do you catch the bus here? Quick! Buy this bed before it's gone! Not every "special" is, well, special

    Woman

That was the best one! (I used to own a pickup -- and have a few country CDs)
  10. Rugby?? Women's sports??? Canadian sports???? The perfect storm of ... <Yawn>. (Kidding!!!!)
  11. Your discussion about how useful they'd be at home is fine, but there's been a lot of talk about other uses for "human" chips, usually ending in how the information in them could be abused without your knowledge (since anybody with the right equipment could read them).

    Full Of Ink

In my experience remanufactured/refilled cartridges aren't worth the trouble, and that site's prices for factory cartridges are no better than local stores, so ... (Applies to the ones I need, your experience may vary.)
  13. After the clock shirt, and the equalizer shirt the "listens" to ambient sound, there's this, a programmable light-show shirt: Light-emitting Shirts.
  14. There's another one I used to use: Chip Puller. Not sure what a chip PUSHER is.
  15. Spotty rain yesterday, steady rain today, more rain tomorrow. Anyone else about to fire up the furnace to take the chill off at night?
  16. Wait a minute ... You did all that and you still have what you call "generic" icons? There is something wrong with your current video driver then -- there MUST be. Download and install the latest drivers for your video card/chipset. OK, another possibility is a "tweak" program that's changing them no matter what you do. If you know what to look for run a startup utility (that'll list everything that starts with Windows) and turn off any such utility. If you can't find it you should try posting a HiJackThis log and allow someone else to investigate what's going on.
  17. I be stoopid -- uh, so the phone plugs into the modem and works normally, computer or no? Yes?
  18. Meh. Unintentional pain's funny, purposely hurting someone's not. IMO.

    Val Soul

Whoa. Love the guitars, the drumming's good. While I hate singling out one thing, and though he seems to be channeling Jim Morrison, something sounds mis-matched with the vocals. I'm no producer so I don't know what I'd do exactly, but ... I dunno ... I can't even put it into words (I've tried). More *something* ... or less *something* ... I just can't put my finger on it. ... going to replay them again ...
  20. Doh! Put the old drive in the newer enclosure. Darn senility. Also, by an amazing coincidence, I do have not only a USB hard drive enclosure, but the drive in it died recently, so it would be a perfect option. The switch would be a great idea too, that was sorta the direction I was thinking (though not specifically a "switch"), but I'm going to install the drive, probably into the newer enclosure (another "gift" was a replacement for the dead USB drive, so I get EVERYTHING I wanted!). Thanks all.
  21. In the old days you would change your screen resolution then change it back. This would load different icons, then reload the ones you actually wanted.
  22. I forgot about that one! Mildly amusing until he does what he does, then it's really surprising.
  23. Got a second-hand computer that's better than the one I have. However, I only got the tower, no cables, no peripherals. So ... If I plug in all my cables & necessary peripherals & get it running, how do I transfer any files from my now bare older tower? If I boot it up to transfer the files ... umm, do I switch the monitor to the old one to ensure everything's running ... THEN switch the monitor back to the newer system to start transferring files? Maybe I'm tired, maybe I'm senile (uh-hem), but the steps elude me at the moment.
  24. Megaflop, Gigaflop, Terraflop, I get, but Petaflop just sounds silly. I want one of those, but it still sounds silly.
