  1. You'll have to be a little more specific ... Is the question: What tools do we use for working on our PCs or other electronics? Other than standard tools I have jeweler's screwdrivers, a home-built meter and a home-built test light. Soldering iron and THE most important tool, soldering braid (braided copper wires used to remove or soak up excess solder), shrink-tubing, wire ties and whatever you call those plastic things you attach to cabinets (for example) and they give you a place to tie off wires.
  2. I'm not familiar with USB headset, is the USB connection the ONLY connection to the PC? If so, then I believe you're stuck making the hardware choice via software. I'm surprised the headset didn't include software to make that choice automatic since that'd be the main use for the headset (to use IN PLACE OF the soundcard/speakers).
  3. I'm with the person who commented that they thought it was a cool cat (as long as it could treat its owner with respect, that is). My cat Storm was a hell-cat too, chasing dogs, other cats, racoons, and even deer out of the neighborhood. Once I was outside with her and she suddenly crouched down, staring into the distance. I looked up and saw a cat nearly a block away, Storm was already enroute to intercept. She'd hiss at humans, even take a swipe at ya if you tried to grab her, but I'm unaware of her ever attacking anyone. Oops, ok, once when she was a kitten she lept off a balconey a
  4. ... can't help thinkin' what their relationship will be like another year down the road ... (Cub: Ooo! Lunch!)
  5. It's not clear why you believe it's stupid to say running into the back of another vehicle is your fault. Leave enough room and it's always possible to stop without ramming the car in front of you, except under the most dire and unusual circumstances (black ice, a meteorite hitting the car in front stopping it in its tracks, etc.). I know others who feel the way you apparently do so I've already heard many arguments supporting that stand, but how do you justify ramming a car that you could have avoided had you only left enough room?
  6. Long ago on an open highway with very little traffic I once saw such a roadblock up ahead. I maintained my speed and passed them on the shoulder. I wouldn't do that nowadays, and I felt bad for doing it then, but vigilanteism isn't justifiable either.
  7. And as a reminder, commercial and many shareware/freeware products have a "Zoom" function where you can zoom out, see the entire picture and work on it without resizing it. I use PaintShop Pro. If you're going to be working with graphics a lot it's worth the expense (as long as you can afford it, naturally).
  8. If they can make a business out of it, I'd visit. I'm not a fan of the current pay-per-song system.
  9. I'm sure it's due to an accurate scan of Internet items and hence is totally relevant. Uh, or not. It's been that way for years and now I know why (googlebombing).
  10. The local PBS station just ran hours and hours of that (during a fundraising week). I saw SO many cool ones ... but I kept flipping the channels ... you can only take so much.
  11. I wasn't paying TOO much attention to the report, just another "your local government is screwing you" story, but I thought they said Illinois was either one of few or the only state that allows local (that would be county or municipal) gasoline taxes. Those high gasoline taxes, combined with the tripling of the cost of automobile registrations not so long ago, should result in the best roads in the nation, but somewhere the money just seems to disappear. I hear the cost of a barrel of oil is dropping again ... Let's hope it trickles down to the local gas stations.

... mumble, muble ... Even though I'd seen that before I STILL got some wrong! Silk, silk, silk, MILK.
  13. I thought you must be kidding since I've never heard of a place where everyone obeys the speed limit (except small areas where local police have a rep for strict enforcement). Random thoughts on the subject: If everyone's going faster than the limit, then the engineers (or more likely, the politicians) set the limit too low. There's a main thoroughfare through my neighborhood, no houses face this street (all are on side-streets). A woman comes to my door and proposes a petition to get the limit dropped on that thoroughfare to 20 mph and, as these types tend to do, she says, "It's for the kid

That joke killed at work last night.
  15. Careful ... Couldn't the women sue Budwieser too? Let's not open that can o' worms.
  16. It just cracked that price-point for a couple of weeks. Not sure if this was national news or not but it's been reported that Illinois has the highest gasoline taxes (and that's without counting local gasoline taxes, which Illinois is one of only a few, or the only, state to allow local taxes). At current prices just the tax on a gallon is 80 cents. But that's OK because we have the best road system in the ... HEY! We're getting screwed!

Funny! Draws a little TOO vivid a picture ...
  18. I long for the days when all you had to keep your eyes peeled for were Crown Vics, Caprices and Dodge Diplomats. Now it's a guessing game ... is it? Isn't it? Just saw a car in a parking lot this morning (make escapes me for the moment) that you'd never suspect was a cop car. I pointed it out to the person I was with and said, "unmarked cop car." She looked, looked again, didn't believe me. We walked up to it and there in the front seat was the computer & other equipment. What gave it away to me? Some VERY well hidden strobe lights. Not something I'd notice on the highway I bet. Thank goo
  19. Interesting stuff, but I winced repeatedly as she literally used the word "literally," literally dozens upon dozens of times. Literally.
  20. THAT'S cheap. It just dropped under $3.00 'round here ($2.95-$2.97). Where it will probably stay as people come to believe, "Well, at least it's not OVER $3.00 any more!"
  21. My town's police department now has marked and unmarked Dodge Chargers with hemis. While driving I saw police lights up ahead, but something didn't "register" quite right. When I got up there, there it was, a Hemi Charger squad car. Not ten minutes later I saw an unmarked one. Now they're everywhere. Darn taxes! This is from a Web search (I'm not in Puerto Rico!) but other than the graphics, it looks like the locals:
  22. It's not just laptop batteries, there's been a rash of other rechargeable products recalled. Are they pushing battery technology too far, too fast? I had to replace my answering machine/cordless phone and when the handsets are being charged they get, and stay, very warm (I would think once fully charged it would switch to trickle charge and cool off, but it doesn't cool off). Worries me so much I won't leave them charging if I'm not home (kinda inconvenient).
  23. Nowadays, anything with video jumps to the top of the news heap, regardless of how important it is. I like the way the guy window-shopped for the exact model he wanted first. He was also a lot older than I'd expect for a theif.
