  4. Nope, will it make a difference? I did suspect this may have something to do with add behavior. BH
  5. I have recently noticed that my Firefox is maxing out the CPU usage on my machine. I am beginning to think I didn't do an update in time. Anyone else seen these symptoms? <followup> This is happening only when I go to G4. Whats up with that?????? BH
  6. I have had really good luck with Crucial. I check there first. BH
  7. I thought you might. The job I have now doesn't include the fun stuff. I really want to do 'DOD Red Team' work. The problem is, I think I would be a little too good at it . People don't respond well to looking foolish. One thing being in this field teaches you, is how easy it really is. From the network is one thing, but if someone gets 5 minutes or less of physical access to a machine, you are done. One of these days I am going to get around to building my penetration testing training network at home. The best way to learn is to hack yourself. BH
  8. Managed to salvage some dignity. Unfortunately
  9. We used to joke about that. It seems that upon leaving the military most people do a combination of the following: 1) Grow a beard or goatee. 2) Grow long Hair. 3) Gain weight. I couldn't stand long hair... BH
  10. I had to put the bootloader into the MBR on the primary drive (master), with the XP load. Ubuntu is on another channel. (no slaves in my setup) Everything I see tells me XP MUST be on the first IDE drive. What is strange is how the RAID card remaps the drive during setup, and then boots from the XP drive designated IDE5. That question is going to grate on me until I figure it out, hopefully I will have time to work on it this week. BH
  11. I am trying to optimize the speed at which my machine reads and writes to and from the hard disks (I am working with Video). I don't want to stripe, just access what I have as fast as possible. One tip I picked up somewhere is to isolate the IDE drives on their own channel as master with no slave. I have a PCI raid card, and was wondering: Which is actually faster, the IDE raid card or the onboard channels? If I were to hazard a guess, I would think the onboard. But I would like to be sure, and know why. PC Specs: 2.4 Athlon, 1gb ram, Asus A7N8X-X, 2 DVD Burners, 160 Seagate, 250
  12. The machine is working now, primarily due to the help you guys gave me (thanks). I do have a 'lesson learned': 1) IDE Raid cards have the option of hyjacking the primary IDE channels. My raid card remapped the drives by default, and it confused me. The bootloader ended up on IDE5 (The XP Drive). I finally had to disconnect the raid card to get it to load properly. I will be digging into my RAID card soon to figure out how to turn off the remap. Ubuntu works great, it recognized everything and it all works. I haven't gotten the network printer to work, but that isn't relate
  13. Hopefully is will last him for a while, I am paying $120 a week now to commute to my job. BH
  14. You can get razorless shave gel for facial hair. I am considering it for my head (gettin' a little thin liz! ). A friend of mine introduced me to it. They make it for Caucasians and for African Americans, so buy the right kind. My friend says he only has to use it twice a week. He is very picky about stubble, so that is high praise. Seems kind of odd covering up a cleft, I wish I had one to cover up, I would ditch the goatee. BH
