  1. I suggested this when I first came here, and I didn't get a great response. Now I think I know why. There aren't enough modders here to support it. Frankly, there are other well moderated forums dedicated to modding, my favorite is: Yoshi.us Forums Don't get me wrong, I love these forums. But modding tends to draw a younger crowd, and is pretty small subculture as tech goes. By spreading us out on a lot of different boards, we dilute the talent and make it harder to get help. Having said that, I am not into the OC scene, but I would assume we are looking at the same issues. Just my opi

  3. I commute in DC, where the beltway moves at about 85 miles an hour with 2 car lengths between cars in the fast lane (no exageration). Add cell drivers and aggressive dump trucks, and you get a picture of my day. I am so frustrated that I actually considered building or buying a cell jammer. The problem is, they are highly illegal. Sometimes I actually think it might be worth it if were just a fine, but I wouldn't want to go to jail. I'm too pretty for jail (not really ). The worst thing is, people could so improve their driving by just buying a headset. You can even get cheap phone
  4. Can you imagine seeing one of these while in traffic? Maybe with the adapter that props it on your shoulder. NOTICE: Don't drive while talking on your cell, it's bad. And if you must, use a hands free headset. BH

  6. People used to have kids so they would work in the fields, now we have them do PC maintainence and set the clock on the VCR... My daughter is building PC's now... BH
  7. Thai food can be spicy. I had a buddy that got their version of hot (thought he was tough) and drank 3 tubs of water trying to cool down. I like hot, but I have to be able to taste it. Luckily, I have a high tolerance. Jalepenos are my low end pepper. Man, now I want some Thai! BH
  8. I should have said AOL.... As for the reload, it is the only sure way to kill off spyware/trojans. It is harsh, but that is the final solution. None of the spyware tools catch everything, and none of them can actually remove ALL of what they find. Reloading is like abstinence, it work 100% of the time... BH
  9. Kids being kids. What I have found works well is to make the punishment stretch out long enough so it sinks in. If my daughter had done this, I would restrict her from the computer until: 1) she did a research paper explaining what the difference is between a virus, worm and a trojans. 2) Maker her scan and clean the machine, researching what she found. 3) Perform a complete reload. This started early with us, we even made her clean her own crayon marks off the wall when she was 2. It has really helped to develop a sense of personal resposibility in her, and has kept us from having to
  10. Oh! Wow, I could see how that would drive someone crazy. I can't even master picture in picture BH
  11. I rented it not knowing what it was about, and got about 5 min in and had to turn it off. As a parent, there are some things I just don't want to see. It is hard enough letting the kid out the door as it is. BH
  12. Weird, I do the same thing. It takes me about .25 of a second to decide if I am going to watch a show or not. My wife doesn't think that fast, and gets annoyed ocassionally. Thankfully, with Tivo it is less of a problem. I stopped 'grazing' and started watching what I wanted to watch, when I wanted to watch it. BH
  13. I think it is just paranoia. We see it on TV, the news puts it center stage, and we all start thinking of it as a common thing. That is what my logical brain tells me, but I still get that bad feeling every time my kid goes out to play. What kills me is these people are getting a couple of years for their crimes, and then they are set free. If we locked them up for 25 years on a first offence mandatory sentence, I would probably feel a little safer. Studies have shown you cant cure them, so keeping them away from kids is our only out. What is bad is, this culture of fear is working both
  14. They have a formula, in rural areas gas is cheaper. They sock it to people in wealthy areas. It also has to do with custom blending to meet local regs. It's not just gas, all chaines are doing this now. Lowes, Walmart, Home depot...all regionalize prices. Charge what the market will bare. BH
