  1. Then that's the only available option - a bummer though
  2. Have you been toying with your BIOS Settings lately? Try clearing your CMOS by moving the jumper (located near your battery) to the clear posistion, move it back, then boot up
  3. Check CPU Fan, new processors won't start without it Check Hard Drive, it could be F'ed up
  4. Motherboard fan? By chance do you mean the CPU fan - I'm just wondering
  5. That's the biggest issue with Firefox, it's imcompatible with many websites - that's why I stick with IE
  6. What type of computer is it? Does your RAM have a label on it? If so, is it PC100, PC133, ect (I'm going to assume it's PC100) How many available slots do you have? I'd recommend getting a stick of 128MB and using it in addition to your 32MB if it's an option for you
  7. Personally, I'd rather throw in a $10 NIC card for a longterm fix. I only use the adaptors for repairs
  8. I second that....like the floppy of the modern age . On sale you can pick up a 128MB one for $10 or cheaper if you're lucky. No I was referring to an adaptor that goes from a USB to Ethernet Newegg $13.99 Trendnet Adaptor Not a flash drive I just purchased one off of eBay for about $10 w/ shipping (from America) Trust me, you'll need it if you reload Windows enough
  9. So, I think I might try and get some PayPal donations to my website tutorial on building a computer with water cooling. I'm sure I can pull in $2000 across the World Wide Web, take a bunch of pictures, and set up a website tutorial/guide In my dreams...
  10. If you're downloading updates as part of your business (I saw it in an earlier post) then I strongly recommend that you buy a USB to Ethernet Adaptor. It's great for old computers (for fixing of course) and for getting reloaded computers online (since you most likely won't have the Ethernet driver loaded on there) It's a Godsend and I think they only run for about $20
  11. Shop I work at has limited laptop parts so eBay is the best option
  12. Yeah she did get shipped of to prison - something in Florida for scamming old people - slightly related - there is this Dave Chapelle skit where he is a psychic who predicts the future using racial stereotypes and it's hilarious Now this is really off topic
  13. That's around half the jobs I do at work - replacing modems then reinstalling drivers for them. I usually just install a $15 Motorolla Modem (comes with drivers and it gets the job done) Heck, if you can't find one nearby I'm sure my boss would sell you one if you PayPal
  14. Great planet! I need to get back to CS once I get done fiddling around with Python
  15. What types of chips support 940 anyway?
  16. That's true, forgot about that - But if you're the type of person who would work with Linux, I doubt you would be buying a PC
  17. RaidMax 470 Watt ATX Power Supply w/ Dual Fans & Windows UL Listed K8/P4 Ready +$85.00 Nemesis Black Midtower Gamer's Case w/ 400 Watt Power Supply & Front USB 2.0 +$99.95 Don't pay extra for a case with a power supply if you plan on spending an additional $85 for a PSU I'd recommend Cooler Master or Thermaltake for a good case (but that's just my opinion) Western Digital 160 GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive w/ 8mb Cache +$115.00 Western Digital 40 GB 7200 RPM IDE Hard Drive w/ 8mb Cache +$69.95 Go with a SATA-300 interface (you would need a better motherboard), for about $140 you can get 2 1
  18. You might want to invest (or free version) in Privacy Guardian or Windows Washer - from the sounds of things I do believe they would wipe out your porn tracks - I mean history
  19. I prebuilt mine - it is truely the only way to avoid crap It's almost impossible to tell people when they come in to work wanting to get a computer that their best option is custom built. Of course if you do want a low end brand new system Dell's $300 deals for a fair system with a flat panel are best, but after you exceed a certain price area the best $ deal is custom. They always think you're trying to scam them into buying a custom
  20. When it doubt - back up your files and reload
  21. Who doesn't? Well, HP is much worse than Gateway, Dell, and even their sister company Compaq Computer I worked on yesterday came factory direct with half the desktop filled with random HP icons (resolution was at 1024x768!) Of course I do have a problem with about every computer company: Dell - Download site for drivers is often down Compaq - Takes forever to reactivate XP after a reload - issue with Microsoft HP - Preloaded crap and badly designed cases Gateway - Really don't have a problem with them EMachines - Practically no driver support Of course reactiviation and driver support aren't
  22. I hate HP specifically because they load their computers with crap
  23. I think it looks pretty cool - except for my Chicago Bears wallpaper it looks kind of Mac"ish"
  24. If the power supply is your issue, which can be repsonsible for random reboots (along with other problems) I've been real happy with my Cooler Master PSU, and I've heard great things about Thermaltake and Ultra Steer clear of cheapy Taiwanese PSU's they'll put you right back into your same problem
  25. I bet in 5-10 years you will go to your Google Brand PC, boot up into Google OS, and run a plethera of Google brand applications - a monopoly is brewing
