  1. and you'll just have tons of extra room to work with...
  2. You really need to go thru the steps we have all outlined for you and actually do some of them. A virus does not make your system overheat. Start with the free solutions, i.e., read the articles on how to clean the cpu and heat sink and inspect them for damage. ( i suspect you have probably damaged your cpu by allowing it to get too hot...when you changd your bios settings) fter the free, then start with the powersupply, then the cpu and then the ram. If you have a different system to try the video card in, that falls into the "free" category too.
  3. I only remember seeing the scanning window but not a %.
  4. Under you NIC properties you will assigm the workgroup name . It also might be a good thing to check to make sure yo have both tcp/ip and netbios installed on both machines (again under the NIC properties), it makes networking the 98 machine to XP easier (if you ever choose to use search for computers to find the other one)
  5. Never did watch it, not sure that will ever change. Haven't watched that channel anyway in onths/years...however long...ts been a long time.

  7. For the older P4's there is not a wayto unlock HT, it simply was designed into the chip.
  8. Hoping you checked the obvious. Plug didn't come loose when playing with the scanner connection, something isn't muted etc? Can you do a system restore back to yesterday when it did work?
  9. Make sure you unistall all theold drivers that didn't work and remove any references to the scanner in device manager etc that you can find. then disonnect the scanner and reload the driver, if the XP one doesn't work, try the 98se or W2k one. Then AFTER its installed , plug in the scanner. XP also has a scanning feature built into it. (its under accessories) you might want to run thru that wizard and see if you can get it to work)
  10. [How to remove/install heat sink AMD socket A http://www.unicore.com/techsupport/athlonxp_installguide.pdf (and while swearing and calling people names may sound like an effective way to describe someone, its really not)
  11. If you don't know how to do something ...ask. Removing and cleaning a heatsink is a pretty simple process. We can find you a link on a step by step how to if you want. (I'm sure someone has one cached somewhere) Thermal paste and cleaning the h/s will cost you, at most $1 for the paste, maybe even less. The cleaning costs nothing. You might want to not keep hiding this from your dad, he may be able to help you find the problem. Not all parents are schmucks you know? A machine that constantly reboots/freezes or blue screens or crashes out under stress, like in a game, usually is attributed to o
  12. So basicly you have done nothing about your heat issue. Your cpu is being over worked. I know you don't want to belive me but I'm almost positive thats the cause. Your fixed are, remove the heatsink and re apply thermal paste to make sure you have a good solid conducter under there (it does dry out and become virtually useless) Make sure the h/s fan is clean and spining freely Add more fans to the case to improve your airflow. Set you BIOS temp back to how it was (allowing it to overheat is only causing more damage) Change your cpu t something more powerful.
  13. Last I checked it should...could be wrong though
  14. Why don't you give us a recap of what you have and haven't done in terms of 1) Heat issues 2) settings 3) testing different components 4)Error messages Your numerous posts jump around so much its damn near impossible to figure out what you have and haven't done
  15. In the future, you can also try going into my computer, right click on the drive and select eject. Usually that overrides the button on the front. just a thought.
  16. I still want to know what are your licensed and bonded for?
  17. Did you turn off system restore when you ran these? if not, those deleted items are probably coming back on reboot.
  18. If you can double your hdd speed, from a 720 to a 15000, yes you'll notice a difference. 7200 to 10,000. Yes there will be a difference, earth shattering? No.
  19. Are the hinges loose on the screen? if it is indeed the lcd, there really isn't alot you can do to stop its deterioration...short of not using it much
  20. Sony, Gateway, HP, Compaq, E-Machines all used the hidden partition restore method for many years, so its not onl Sony. If you haven't deleted or formatted the hidden partition then you can just insert the recovery cd, and reboot and follow the on screen instructions, pretty simple. if you destroyed the hidden partition, you have no option but to buy a new vrsion of the OS.
