Having Issues Reinstallin Xp Home
Parrotgeek7 replied to mikex's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Another common mistake/issue is people often try to use a wireless keyboard/mouse during a reinstall. Just another thing to stash away in your useless memory belt. -
Recently, starting about 8 days ago, we started seeing quite a few (11 so far) Maxtor external hdd's all with the same problem. For one reason or another, they all seem to have lost their file allocation tables and partition information. They all show up in the bios and even on Windows disk management on the server platforms, but they can not be mounted or assigned a drive letter. So far 8 of them have been accessable thru DOS and the contents retrieved, but the other 3 are DOA. Or is the network set up and you want to know how to access it? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Easiest way is by ip address> Things you'll have to do to access your network from the outside> 1) Make sure you router has ports 5800-5900 forwarded to a static ip address (your host machine) 2) Make sure that host machine has VNC server running and has a password on it 3) Make sure your firewalls allow VNC to pass thru From there, you can start the local VNC viewer and access any other system on your network. You can always unplug it and soak it in warm soapy water. (whats the worst that could happen...you break it? Its already broken), then let it air dry for a day or so and try it, you might just have some gunk under the keys.

You may just be getting a cleaner connection the before so your speeds increasing. Also it could easily be being misreported by your modem. The telcom in your area may have reduced some overhead and freed up some more space....could be a number of things. Does NZ have a cap on their modem speeds like the US does?
