  1. Cool! Thanks for sharing this. I know it will come in handy.
  2. Aaaarrrrrg. Well I had a real dumb type of night last night... Well... Couple of days..... LOL Removed the SP1 beta from Vista and replaced it with SP1 RC1. First night everything was fine. But the next day my internet connection just went dumb. Took forever to get any site to come up. Timeout errors on trying to update anything. I thought "What the Hell". Doing a repair on my network connection kept telling me to contact the system admin to fix the problem...... WHAT! So I starts into every trick I know to solve this problem. No go..... Now I'm getting flustered... Spend more time at it...
  3. Try a little known secret. (if your PSU has a 110/220 switch) Unplug the power cord from your PC. Switch you power control switch from 110 to 220, Plug it back in, hit the power button. (it won't start). Then unplug your PSU, switch it back to 110. Plug in the power cord and see if that solves the problem. Newer PSUs have it set this way to reset the PSU. But I agree. It does sound like the PSU more so then the mobo.
  4. A call to the hospital or to the county court house should have it on record. If not, give Homeland Security a call. They probably already have that info. Plus things you forgot about after turning two years old.... (Maybe I shouldn't have added the last line.)
  5. Thanks for the tips on which ones to try. I'm going to dig out my nicer AMD 2400FX throw in a half a gig and try to decide which drive to use. But that might take a time to get through (allot of things taking up my time). But I'm going to start with the distros and start playing around with them. And since I see there are a good assortment of tips and givin help you all already supplied. I think this is going to be fun trying something new. (Does this mean I have to get me a penguin decal now)... LOL
  6. After watching this vid. I have to try one or two. So... One I can run off a disk. And the fancier the better. What do you suggest I try. I read about some of the newer ones on digg. But they never really showed a vid like this. Now I have to give it a try. So show me the world of Linux or whichever you suggest is the neatest.
  7. What?!? Did you consider all that scanning "interesting and fun," or "hard work?" Good going on getting and cleaning up your new toy!!!! Myself, I find it tedious and sometimes right down boring. Stat this scan.... wait. Start another scan....wait. Of course there are those who think they have to catch everything that's out there. And then it's a big challange.
  8. Happy Turkey Day all. Remember not to eat to much. Well miss ya while your recoping for the next week....LOL
  9. For Basic and Premium Edition. Through the Registry : NOTE: This will work for all Vista versions. 1. Open the Start Menu. 2. In the white line (Start Search) area, type regedit and press Enter. 3. Click Continue button for UAC prompt. 4. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System 5. In the right pane, right click on ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin and click Modify. (See screenshot below) 6. Type 0 (Number) and click OK. (See screenshot below) NOTE: To restore the default settings for this, type 2 instead.
  10. Good to hear from ya. Glad to know all well.
  11. Happy Birthday to you Happy Birthday to you You look like a ...... (fill in your favorite critter) And smell like one too. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Bubbabob!!!
  12. The one quoted above. I'm Don Van Wie. Vista should not contain MSJVM due to the Sun Java lawsuit. MS quit including it after WinXP SP1. Anyone who has it installed in Vista would need to download and install it. There are still some companies that require it's use with their servers. Kind of foolish that they do. LOL...... OK.... Now I know.
  13. You will have to log in if you remember your old password. But everything is still there. I was going through all my saved e-mails. And I came across this site that required you to activate to join The old BTs
  14. Two of the main improvements to Vista will be in the form of two of the updates I listed earlier. And have to do with reliability and performance. With Vista, This may be the only major SP update we might see for Vista. The windows team will break the tradition of waiting, and rolling everything into one big fix. And will now just add any hot fixes to windows update as they are released. Added to the SP will be a lot of updates that were previously released, SP1 mostly contains changes focused on addressing specific reliability and performance issues that were identified via customer feed
  15. Thanks Guys I at least undrestand the differences now. And the vid helps.
  16. LOL..... Kids and their games... Don't you know that someones going to get an eye poked out.....
  17. I was just wondering.... Only played with a Mac once. And not for long. I know PCs. Inside and out. But i was wondering with a Mac. What kind of processor comes with them? Can you upgrade the processor? put in a bigger one. How about a motherboard. Do you have choices on faster ones. Can you buy and replace them. And memory... Is it like a PC? can you or do you ever have to get more memory like with PCs. You know each OS from MS needs more and more memory to run. Can you change or add multable hard drives for more storage? I allways read the flaming wars over Macs and PCs. And the "I'll stick
  18. ... ... adjudicate............ word came to mind because 1) it's and 'ad' word and 2) it reminded me of the dreaded adjudication: when chess matches would run too long in H.S. competition (being adjourned); the result(s) (of to whom a game win or loss would be awarded) might tilt the match's favor to the opposing team hinged upon other than the two combatants (who were usually more inept than the judge(s) might invariably be. Aunt Judy...........(I have no idea why that just came to me, especially because I don't have one.......might have something to do with the Vicodin I've been taking for

  22. Speed Up the Interface Windows Vista features what some of us think is the prettiest graphical user interface in the operating-systems industry. Its stylish transparencies and nifty animations — driven by Direct3D and your graphics card — give it a polished look that's a pleasure to use. Unfortunately, that shiny, new interface, called Aero, is also a resource hog. If you're running Vista on a PC that's near or just above the system requirements, you might want to shut off some or all of those features. Here are some actions you might want to take to tweak interface services: 1. Lose the
